Quick Question About Microsoft FrontPage

Is there any way to save your FTP user name and password info in the program? It is annoying to have to enter it every single time I want to make a minor upload change. I am using FrontPage 2002.

I use the freeware FTP WS_FTP LE 6.0 which allows you to save your password and makes uploading files a piece of cake in that regard.

If I make an update, I just grab the pages I updated plus new graphics and upload with that.

Just an idea, I find it unusual that Frontpage doesn't have a easily identifiable way to save a password for the FTP site you're going to.

Just an idea, I find it unusual that Frontpage doesn't have a easily identifiable way to save a password for the FTP site you're going to.I use that same freeware program for screen shots and other single files, and I've tried to use it when I update pages with Front Page. I'm always afraid that I'll miss an important file or two, plus it is still an extra step.

I haven't used Frontpage in a while but I don't remember having to enter my info again when uploading. There are two uploading buttons. One is the more comprehensive option which allows you to see the files on that server and one is the button which does a quick transfer. If I recall, the quick transfer button doesn't ask for anything and automatically does it.

I'm up in the 350-400MB range, so I'd really rather not do that every time I want to update one name on one page. :p

Honestly, FrontPage is ok, but it loads your pages with code that is not needed. Get DW, the learning curve is a bit rough (However, there are tons of books out there for it) and you will thank yourself over the long run for it.

No, you don't have to worry. It doesn't upload stuff you haven't changed.

As long as you haven't saved anything on a page, it won't upload it. So even if you don't make changes on a page, but save it, it will think you did alter it, so it will upload it.

I'd third the two who said use Dreamweaver (used it for my Golden Scribe presentation just posted *cough*shameless plug*cough*). The problem is that that the warning about garbage code is correct. Front Page puts in non-standard code that only IE can read to help maintain their stranglehold on the web browser market. So those of us who use Mozilla, Netscape, Opera, etc can not read some of what you put.

But I'm guessing you already have Front Page and don't want to drop another bunch of bucks on a new program. Unfortunately, since that's the case, I can't help you with your problem :(

It's always interesting to make a website with MS Frontpage and looks at those wierd side folders. :p

FWIW, I use notepad as much as possible. Even in DW I just use the codepage. old habits and all that.

And vi rules all. :D
