View Full Version : My absence

I have to apaologize to everyone for my dissapearence.(especially my online leagues) The last month and a half was a complete disaster for me. My grandfather got sick again, my dad found out he had to have a major back operation that would keep him down for nearly a year and I got a great job offer only to have them pull it back the day I started because the hiring manager didn't get an OK from corporate to make the hire in the first place.

I just had to get away and recharge my batteries. The last few days has brought much better news. My grandfather is doing better again, my father's back may not be as bad as the first doctor thought it was and I got another terrific job offer where I start on Monday. Hopefully this is a trend that continues. If not, maybe it's someone sending me a sign that I shouldn't post here anymore. :)

My sports thoughts for this past month:

1) Portis for Bailey trade. Love the trade and I hope it gets completed. I think Portis is a special, special back, but it's been nearly 3 decades sinse Denver had a true lockdown CB. (Louis Wright) It's long overdue for this to happen. The second round pick is a nice bonus.

2) A-Rod to the Yankees. Does anyone care anymore? MLB=EPL.

3) NBA screws Nuggets out of a win and apologizes for the mistake. Ever notice how much apologizing the NBA does over Lakers reffing mistakes? The last 6 minutes of that game was a complete and total joke. The final 25 seconds with the horrific 24 second call and the stolen jump ball by Shaq only sealed the deal.

4) Oklahoma State rolling. So we lost at Mizzou the other night, no problem. We are still the best team in the Big12. (and no, that isn't saying much this year)

I'll try to catch up on my email and PM's this weekend.

Chief, never got your PM.

That is my worst nightmare when starting a new job. I seriously think that could be the worst thing a company could do to somebody.

I was going to PM you? Or are you referring to kcchief?

I'm glad to see you're doing better. I kinda thought something major must have happened for you not to be around, especially with IHOF finally kicking off.

Bucc is screwing up your Stillwater franchise, so get on the waiting list. ;)

Oh yeah, and Lakers rule! :)

Shutdown corners are hard to get -- 1,500 yard rushers in Denver aren't. Besides, you've still got the Midget. :)

Glad to hear things in your life are looking up. That's what is really important.

By the way, Bucc is running the Stillwater Dynamite into the ground. Don't worry, I hear that Les Miles is going to give them a pre-game pep talk next week. LET HER RIP!!!!!!!

The ref did get suspended, not that makes the Nuggets feel any better. I bring that up because I after seeing the ref's protest tonight, it really makes me wonder what they are thinking. Do refs really think they shouldn't be accountable for their actions? If you make a call that bad, then you deserve to be reprimanded in some way. It really goes to show that the league has spoiled the refs to the point that they believe they are bigger than the game and shouldn't be punished for poor work or criticized in any way. I hope the league starts doing this more often and starts to focus on cleaning up the worst officiating of any sport.

My rambling is done.

Glad to hear you have things back in order Troy.

Also, I have to disagree with your MLB=EPL statement. The EPL is MUCH more interesting and exciting than MLB.

That is my worst nightmare when starting a new job. I seriously think that could be the worst thing a company could do to somebody.

This may have been the worst thing that ever happened to me. I'd been out of work for awhile and hadn't had a lot of bites. I go through three interviews (Phone and then two face to face), nail all of them perfectly. I get offered the job on a Wednesday, go to the office on Mondy morning to fill out paperwork and start. . . then get told to go home, that there really isn't a job.

They could have kicked me in the stomach and it would have felt better. I usually handle stress pretty well, but I was near my breaking point. I guess everything works out for a reason (or that's what I'll tell myself until I believe it). This job looks better than the last one and pays more too. :)

-----------------------------------------

the_herd,

The entire crew should have been suspended. It was a complete joke. I think the jump ball after the blown call everyone is talking about was even worse than the blown call itself. The ref throws the ball toward Shaq. An exhausted Shaq jumps two inches off the ground and steals the tip while the ball is still going up and not one of the three refs makes the call.

Conspiracy theories don't start with a single blown call. They are human and they make mistakes. Conspiracy theories start when you have a mountain of blown calls (and OBVIOUS calls at that) which are blown. The league gave the Lakers that game in the final 6 minutes. It was horrible to watch. The league can suspend all the officials it wants, until I see something actually change in the way the games are reffed I'm not going to believe it.

As upset as I was watching the game, I couldn't imagine actually having been there and paying 50 bucks for a ticket. If I took a family of four to that game, I likely would never go to another one.

I didn't get to catch that game, all I saw was the "inadvertant" whistle that Sportscenter showed. It's probably just wishful thinking to hope that the league is cracking down on the officiating. They are most likely covering their asses as more and more evidence starts to mount that the Lakers are shown favortism by every officiating crew. I think the protest by the other refs is what pisses me off the most though. The league should fine every ref that protested, because any player that shows any sign of protest against another's fine or suspension is quickly fined himself.

Ah, the good ol' league admitting you were screwed out of a win. Got that a year or so ago up in Minnesota, good times.

For the last week or so, I thought of starting a thread asking what happened to TroyF. If he was one of the business day casulties. Well, since someone bumped this thread, if anyone knows why TroyF has been gone, speak up!

Yes, I saw he was just here as well. That's why I didn't start a new thread.

Hmmm...
