Lawyers for steroid defendants say Bonds did nothing wrong

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Two men accused of participating in a steroid-distribution ring returned to court for a pair of hearings, and offered support for a high-profile associate -- baseball slugger Barry Bonds.

Lawyers for the two men said Bonds "never took anything illegal,'' and that the San Francisco Giants (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/sfo/) star rejected a questionable substance at the center of the government's case. The defense of Bonds, accused this week by a fellow major leaguer of taking steroids, came outside court Friday after two short hearings in the case against four men charged with providing performance-enhancing substances to dozens of professional athletes...

My question is, does anyone care? Does this really change anyone's opinion? I'm a huge fan of the Giants, and I love Barry Bonds...but even I, as a huge fan, have a hard time believing that Bonds is totally clean. It's tough to go from no more than 40-something homers ever to 72 HR in one year. I'd like to think he's clean...but it's tough.

Anyways, back to the issue at hand. Is this statement really going to sway anyone? What is the purpose?

Dola - Sorry if this has been posted before, but I've seen this article floating around for a few days, and every time I just wonder...why?

It's called an offensive defense. Politicians do it all of the time.
