FOFC Nextel Cup Season 12

Daytona, FL - Once again we find ourselves starting yet another season of FOFC Nextel Cup Racing. Now a year after 5-time series champion Chris Snow retired, 3-time series champion Nick Phillips has decided to call it quits and go behind the scenes at Phillips Racing. Now his son, Nick Phillips Jr., will try to make a name for himself in the series. Phillips Jr. will take over Kevin Anderson's former #5 car. His dad's sponsor, Mello Yello, will sponsor the 5 car for the majority of the season. Hooters, who sponsored Anderson last season, will sponsor the car for a few races during the season.

Defending series champ Jeeber D Mack will once again be driving the #22 Baja Fresh car this season. His 4 wins in Season 11 tied Nick Phillips' Season 9 Total for most wins in a season for the past 6 seasons. In his third season in the FOFC Nextel Cup Billy Bushinhimer is starting to make a name for himself. After a 26th place finish in points his rookie season, Bushinhimer finished 3rd two seasons ago and 2nd last season. Is this the year he jumps one more spot to 1st? Sterling Silvers had a big late season charge to put himself in 4th place in the final standings even with 5 DNF's on the season. Last year he never found victory lane, this year he should. 6th and 7th place finishers last season Telle Snow and Rewbie Newsday are always found running near the front of the field. Newsday picked up one victory last season but Telle surprisingly never found her way to victory lane. I wouldn't expect that drought to last much longer. Travis Elkin found victory lane twice last season an finished 8th in the final standings. A few more top-5 finishes this season should put him in the top-5 in the points. Once again John Condor quietly put himself in the Top Ten in the final points. He continues to be a very steady driver who rarely finds himself in trouble. Ren Snow didn't finish Season 11 the way he would of liked too as he fell from the Top Five to 10th late in the season. In his second season driving Chris Snow's former #40 he should fare much better.

We have another solid rookie class this season. Casey Brow will drive the #09 Red Rhino car. Of course there is Nick Phillips Jr. driving the #5 Mello Yello Chevy. Ardent Enthusiast will be driving the #28 Vodafone car. Jared Book will be driving the #56 Sonic car. And Gold Golden will drive the #81 Drakkar Chevy.

Season 12 Points Prediction

1. Billy Bushinhimer - The kid is always near the front. Two Top Three Points finishes the past two season is no fluke. This is the year he takes the title.

2. Jeeber D Mack - He will be near the front again this season. Back-to-back championships isn't the easiest thing to accomplish though. Jeeber D will certainly try to accomplish the feat.

3. Ren Snow - Ren always has one of the top cars on the circuit. This season he will battle the entire year for the title. There will be no late season collapse this year.

4. Travis Elkin - Last season Elkin picked up two wins. This year if he can find his way to victory lane a few times again and pick up the Top Five finishes he will be a championship factor.

5. Rewbie Newsday - Newsday didn't quite live up to the preseason championship hype but he still had a very good season. 1 Pole, 1 Win and 6 Top Five finishes is a great season for anyone.

6. Telle Snow - Somehow Telle never managed to find herself in victory lane last season. And she only picked up 7 Top Ten finishes. Those number should improve this year.

7. Sterling Silvers - Can Silvers keep the momentum for last seasons late season charge? We'll find out very soon. If Sterling can get out of the gate quick he'll be a factor.

8. Mustafa Henderson - In his rookie season Mustafa finished 2nd in the Season Standings. He has never duplicated the success of that season yet. Maybe this season he'll be on the top at the end of the year.

9. Mike Tokunaga - Season 11 isn't one Mike Tokunaga wants to remember. He finished a disapointing 17th in the final standings. Well, thats not as bad as the 42nd place finish he was used to early on in his career, but his standards are much higher now. Tokunaga should bounce back.

10. John Condor - Condor is one of the best at avoiding trouble. That's why he always finds himself in the top ten in the final standings. This year should be no different.

Coming out of the final turn, It's Craptacular was desperately trying to make a move to pass Sonny Daze. But Daze was able to hold him off and take the victory in the Budweiser Shootout. He also won the event last season.

Rob Neilsen - In last year's 500 Neilsen had one of the strongest cars. But a late race crash ruined any chance he had at victory. This year he will find himself in victory lane.

It's Craptacular - Craptacular is another driver who always seems to have a solid car at superspeedways. He ran well in the Bud Shootout and his car for the 500 should be just as good.

Sonny Daze's weekend of dominance continued in the Daytona 500. After starting on the pole and winning the Budweiser Shootout, he picked up the pole for the Daytona 500. He then made sure no one had any doubt who the best driver at Daytona this weekend was by leading 26 laps to win the Daytona 500. David Gonzalez led more laps, 33, but finished 3rd.

Daze put himself in the perfect position starting the final lap. He was third right behind Gonzalez and Rewbie Bluesday. Heading into the 3rd turn he made his move to the inside and with the help of lapped car Mike Ritschel he blew by Gonzalez to take the win. Rookie Ardent Enthusiast ended up 2nd. Gonzalez was 3rd, Bluesday 4th and Jeeber D Mack was 5th.

Other than Ardent, the rookies didn't fare too well. Jared Book came home in 21st. Casey Brow was 24th. Gold Golden finished in 26th. And Nick Phillips Jr. ended a disappointing weekend with a 31st place finish after starting dead last.

114 lead changes took place throughout the race, a typically number for an FOFC Daytona race. But unlike other races at Daytona the number of drivers leading the laps wasn't in 30's. 21 drivers took turns leading the race. 1 caution flag flew during the race. It was for a spin involving Mike Ritschel with about 25 laps remaining.

Last season's Rookie of the Year, David Gonzalez, came to Daytona with high hopes for his second season on the circuit. However, during testing it seemed like the crew and driver just could not get it together. Gonzalez qualified 30th for the Super Bowl of racing. Once race day came around, something clicked and Gonzalez had it working. He led the most laps, but could not get around a lapped car on the final turns and was passed before he could take the checkered flag. This second year driver is looking to make this the year he puts himself on the map and he wants to prove the critics wrong for predicting him to finish 21st in the series.

Peshtigo, WI - In a surprising announcement, veteran racer Rewbie Newsday announced this will be his last season. The veteran racer, who has participated in the league since its inception, has decided to make one last run at the title.

Newsday has twice finished the season second in points, and has been in the top 10 several times. His accomplishments may stand second to only the great team of Snow racing sports.

Nonetheless, Newsday will be making his final farewell tour.

Teammate Rewbie Bluesday was asked about it, and his response was cryptic: "The captain will be retiring. As for the first mate, I will sail on." Does this mean he will continue? Or he too will finish? We shall see.

The 5 caution flags during the race took out many cars who were running near the front. It's Craptacular, Ren Snow, Jeeber D Mack, David Yellope, Mustafa Henderson, David Gonzalez, and Billy Bushinhimer all had Top 15 finishes ruined by crashes. Tom Glaser, started from the pole and led 136 laps, but when a caution flag flew after he pitted and before a few others did he was put a lap down. Daniel Schoonover took advantage to lead 86 laps and take the victory. Rookie Nick Phillips Jr. came in second.

Sorry, but I've been quite busy lately with basketball. So the race probably won't be run until Thursday. If I don't get to it Thursday I'm sure I'll run it Friday.

There were no cautions the first 200 laps of the race and three drivers, Gold Golden, Telle Snow and It's Craptacular had pulled away from the rest of the field. But during green flag pit stops a caution flag flew, leaving only 7 cars on the lead lap. Golden and Snow both found themselves a lap down. Ren Snow took advantage to lead 46 of the final 49 laps to take the victory.

Phillips Jr. has remained steady the first 4 races. He hasn't qualified very well or even ran that great but always finds himself in the top ten at the end of the race. His teammates, Henderson and Bushinhimer are struggling back in he 30's though. Sonny Daze is still running well after his Daytona victory and is second. Bluesday is living up to his potential and is 3rd. Breeze is 4th and Kyle Kappe is 5th.

Kai Collins may have won the race at Kansas today, but he didnt have the best car. Mustafa Henderson and Ren Snow's good runs were ruined by untimely cautions and It's Craptacular's day was ruined by an accident with a lapped car.

After picking up his 2nd pole of the season, Tom Glaser led the first 58 laps before falling back. He ran in the top 5 until he was taken out in a crash on lap 250. Shane Kormelink, Sterling Silvers and Billy Bushinhimer all took turns leading the races for extended periods of time. But it was Bushinhimer who held everyone off in the end to take the victory.

Quietly, Rewbie Bluesday, Sonny Daze and Kyle Kappe all had Top Ten runs again. And John Condor was 13th. These four may not be leading the field as much as others but they have been able to get there cars in the Top 15 at the end of the day without any problems.

Yes! What a race. From 33rd to finish 8th. 3rd Top 10 for my sophmore year and now I'm in the top 10 for the season. Hmmmm. Could get interesting.

Ardent Enthusiast completed dominated the race at the Sears Point road course today. He led all but 2 laps during the day, and those two were during green flag pit stops. At one point before the days only caution he had built up an 18 second advantage over 2nd place. Tom Glaser picked up his 3rd pole of the season but failed to lead any laps as he finished 2nd.

Telle Snow held off It's Craptacular in the races final laps to take the victory after leading the final 52 laps. Kai Collins started on the pole and led 63 laps during the first part of the race. But a horrible pit stop under caution dropped him from the lead all the way to 33rd. He has a strong enough car to put himself in 11th at the end of the day though. Sloppy Joe, Travis Elkin and Nick Phillips Jr. all had good runs as they moved up from bad starting spots to put themselves in the Top Ten. Rewbie Newsday ran up front all day until a Lap 121 crash with Maximus Meridus, Daniel Schoonover and Mike Ritschel ended his day early.

John Condor continues to lead after another solid run. Teammates Billy Bushinhimer and Nick Phillips Jr. find themselves in 2nd and 3rd. Rewbie Bluesday continues his impressive season in 4th. Ardent Enthusiast is in 5th and looks to not just be challenging for the Rookie of the Year title but also for the FOFC Championship. Sonny Daze drops to 6th and in 7th and 8th are two faces unfamiliar to the Top Ten in the past few seasons, Sloppy Joe and David Gonzalez. David Gonzalez was looking good. He had led the last 162 laps and looked poise to pick up the win. But lapped traffic helped Mike Tokunaga pass Gonzalez with only two laps remaining to pick up the victory. Rewbie Bluesday led 117 laps early on but an accident ended his day. Kai Collins led 56 laps and was also taken out in an accident.

Halfway through the season the standings are closer than ever before at this point. 25 or so drivers still have a realistic shot at coming with the championship. John Condor is leading the points, even though he never seems to have one the top cars out there. He remains very consistent. Nick Phillips Jr. is 2nd and has had a season much like Condor's. He doesnt run up front much but finds himself there at the very end. David Gonzalez and Sloppy Joe in 3rd and 4th are huge suprises. We'll see if they can keep it up for the 2nd half. 5th place is Bushinhimer who is familiar to the front.

Only have of the cars survived today's wreckfest. David Yellope led the most laps with 144, but finished a lap down in 13th. Kai Collins led 135 laps before crashing out. Jobu Mack took the lead coming out of green flag pit stops with 29 laps to go and never looked back as he picked up the win.

I got some bad news guys. I somehow lost everything I had on my computer, that included all the FOFC Racing stuff. But luckily I had recently saved all the stuff onto a CD. I did this after about the 6th or 7th race so the season can still continue, but the the last 3 or 4 races will now have been voided. I'm not sure how this happened but at least I had a recent backup of everything.

One the crazier finishes that we've had in the FOFC Nextel Cup Series happened today. Mustafa Henderson, after leading 94 laps, took the white flag with the lead. But, lapped cars got in his way heading into Turn 1 and he crashed. Sterling Silvers and others avoided the wreck and finished the final lap. Silvers led only the final lap during the race as he took the victory. Two races at Darlington, Silvers won only after Henderson's teammate, Billy Bushinhimer, had a problem with his car with 3 laps to go.

It was more fun sucking than being mediocre.

It was a perfect day for David Yellope. He started the day in 5th, but by lap 10 he found himself leading the race already. He never looked back from there as he led 304 of the next 315 laps, only giving up the lead during green flag pit stops. After a late caution, Billy Bushinhimer gave Yellope his biggest challenge of the day but he held him off and Bushinhimer fell back a bit at the end.

The first caution flag didn't fall until Lap 216. That allowed Yellope to lap all but the Top Ten at that point. David Gonzalez was one of the drivers who went a lap down early. But he fought all day to get the lap back and eventually did. He ended up finishing 5th, up from his 39th place starting spot. Telle Snow's disapointing season continued, as once again a great qualifying run was ruined. Amazingly though, this was his first DNF of the season.

Telle Snow and Mustafa Henderson have been two of the best drivers in FOFC Racing over the past few seasons. But this season had been a huge disapointment for the both of them thus far. Not anymore as the two started 1st and 2nd and finished 1st and 2nd. They combined to lead 188 of the races 200 laps. Telle held off a furious challenge from both Henderson and Kool Breeze to pick up the win. Ren Snow was 4th followed by Nick Phillips Jr. in 5th. Gold Golden, Kai Collins, David Gonzalez, Sloppy Joe and Its Craptacular rounded out the Top Ten.

For the second consecutive race, Telle Snow took the pole and dominated. But this time she didn't pick up the win. Telle was the first one to head into the pits for the final green flag pit stop, and a caution came out before anyone else came in. That put Telle a lap down. She would get the lap back but would finish 12th despite leading 242 of the 300 laps. Rookie Gold Golden took advantage and led the race's final 46 laps to take the victory. Ren Snow came home 2nd with Rookie Casey Brow getting his career best finish of 3rd.

As always, it was a crazy day at Talladega. Many of the top title contenders had bad days, except for Ren Snow who finished in the Top Five again. It was a 9 car battle down the stretch to take the win. David Gonzalez started the final lap in 5th, but quickly picked off car by car and then barely held off Sonny Daze to pick up the win.

Kai Collins took over control of the race with about 170 laps remaining and went on to take home the victory. Mike Tokunaga finished .59 seconds back. Rewbie Newsday started on the pole and led 104 laps early on in the race, but during a green flag pit stop the yellow came out and he went a lap down. He fought his way back though to regain the lap back and finished 3rd. The other Rewbie, Bluesday, came in 4th and Jeeber D Mack finished 5th. Ren Snow finished the day 22nd. Somehow, Sterling Silvers failed to qualify for the race. His team went home from the weekend shocked at the turn of events. L. Jon Silvers, though, turned in another nice performance. Others failing to qualify were Kyle Kappe and John Condor.

Rewbie Newsday takes over the points lead with 4 races remaining. Earlier in the season he announced that this would be his final season in the FOFC Nextel Cup Series, can he go out on top? Ren Snow finds himself 2nd, 45 back off Newsday. Rewbie Bluesday is in 3rd place, 51 points back off Newsday. Kai Collins, after picking up his 2nd win of the season, is now in 4th. Billy Bushinhimer finds himself 5th. Sonny Daze, Nick Phillips Jr., Mustafa Henderson, Gold Golden and L. Jon Silvers round out the Top Ten. Even with only 4 races left, I wouldn't rule out anyone in the Top Fifteen out the championship race quite yet.
