I'm sure several of you have had wisdom teeth pulled. Any good suggestions on what you can eat while you're recovering?

I survived the three days or so after off of pudding and applesauce.

I will never eat either again I think.

I had a steak the night I had mine out (I had all 4 out, and a chip of a tooth in the top front of my mouth that was buries in my gum), it wasn't bad at all.

I'm sure Mrs. Passacaglia can recommend something to eat.

I grabbed a steak and cheese sandwich on the way home from getting mine done. no trouble at all with it.

I'm actually wincing in pain reading some of these responses. :)

I think it all depends on where your wisdom teeth were. Three of mine were out and one was coming in so I was only in real pain for about a day. I've heard if they are impacted it usually hurts for a lot longer. You may want to try wanton soup though since the noodles are soft enough to break without hurting your mouth.

Yeah, I had my two bottom back ones impacted real bad, and I sure as hell wasn't eating anything I had to chew on for a couple days after.

The bottom 2 were impacted, and they didn't hurt at all. I never even took any tylenol or anything.

Are you all kidding? Man, I had all four taken out, and all four were impacted. I couldn't even get out of bed for three days. I was talking about applesauce and ginger ale for two straight days. Third day I moved up to soup.

I'm talking about like three days worth of bleeding, too. Damn.

Maybe in retrospect, getting it done in that back alley with a screwdriver wasn't such a great idea.

Baby...suck it up. You wouldn't see someone like Fred Funk slowed down by this sort of thing...

Depends on how bad the operation is, but food tasted like garbage to me for 2-3 days afterwards. I was also bleeding like a stuck pig on and off for about 24 hours afterwards. That basically left water and other liquids.

Providing that your anesthesia has worn off (morphine?) -> I ended up having Jamba Juice for a week. Lost 10 lbs and all, but gained it back after a few Carne Asada Fries and Machaca Burritos.

anesthesia?!?!?!

You don't need that. Just a little novacane will do ya.

I bled a lot for the next two days and didn't eat at all. The third day I had some cereal and juice and began to steadily improve after that. I can't imagine eating a steak and cheese the same day as the procedure, how did you guys do it?

Mine sucked, too.

I'm sure that you have been told this, but don't suck through a straw. The suction can pull out your blood clots and give you a dry socket.

When I had my dry sockets, asprin were like candy. Only vicodin would have an effect.

My top two were fine, my bottom two were impacted pretty bad. It didn't hurt much when they were taken out, but I couldn't move my jaw real good. So I had to eat without chewing or opening my mouth.

In fact, just search for my name and wisdom teeth. You should find several threads. I basically ate jello, pudding, and soup for about a week. I'm missing a front tooth (face first into a pole, broke it clean in half) so it actually helped. I just sucked the jello, pudding and soup through that opening with my tongue. :)

For soup, I recommend Campbell's Chicken and Stars.

I'm actually not the one having wisdom teeth pulled -- lurker is. She just got to the dentist's office now, and was pretty nevous about everything, but I'm sure she'll be all right.

Your friend's getting them all taken out, correct? Best done that way, if you ask me...so your friend wouldn't have to undergo a second surgery.

I ate soup for a couple of days to avoid a dry socket. Then went back to eating regular stuff, starting with simple stuff like sandwiches.

Do a search. I'm pretty sure we've had at least two threads about this before. I'm sure they would be informative for you...

I drank slim-fast and similar stuff when I had my four wisdom teeth (along with four others) taken out. It was actually more filling than you might expect. Lost weight too. :)

I also found that when I wasn't feeling well after having my wisdom teeth taken out, it helped to take off my pants.
