I signed Ricky Williams as a RB mentor prior to the 2008 season, and drafted a kid named Ellis Earnest in the 7th round, just cuz I liked the name. I also signed Tim Couch because my starting QB bolted for a $72 mil offer from the Redskins. In week 4, Couch passed for 306 yards and 5 TDs in a 49-14 win. Week 5, we won 41-13, but for a very different reason:

Rushing Att Yards Avg Long TD
34 Culver 19 152 8.0 65 1
28 Williams 15 87 5.8 28 2
40 Earnest 4 53 13.2 47 1

Yowza.

Wowza! What're the present rankings for the defense of the teams you've obliterated?

Both of 'em are fairly porous at rushing yards allowed, but the team we beat through the air had the 2nd best passing defense in the league.

Did you play those out, or simulate them? And if you simulated them...can I have a copy of your gameplan? ;)

You haven't seen my defensive line yet. The last 2.5 seasons, my ends and my star nose tackle have combined for...*does the math*...104 sacks. And that ignores my linebackers.

I simulated 'em, but I think my gameplan had less to do with it than my studly offensive line, since I hardly ever fiddle with gameplans in single-player.

Hmm. In that case, you're quite the coach!

I'm still struggling to get my star RBs above the 4.0 average yards per rush.

Some end of season stats. We finished with 2,665 rushing yards as a team on 518 carries, good for a 5.14 ypc average and 166.5 yards per game.

My top two RBs, Ricky Williams and William Culver, had the following stats, respectively:

Ricky Williams: 219 carries, 1006 yards, 4.5 ypc average, 5 TDs

William Culver: 191 carries, 1088 yards, 5.6 ypc average, 6 TDs

Ricky Williams was your starter, right? Mentoring Culver? I'd say you've got one heck of an O-Line then, to produce 2 RBs breaking the 1000 yard marker. Not 1...but 2! What's your team's ranking in the various statistics at the end of the season?

Ricky was the starter, yes, although Culver was our starter for a year or two prior to that. I think Culver was actually the kid who got 800 yards as a rookie backing up Tiki Barber.

We were 3rd in the league in rushing attempts, with 518. First in ypc at 5.14, and first in rushing yards at 2,665. 25th in passing attempts at 475, tied for 26th in completions at 285, 31st in the league in passing yardage at 2,788 yards, 31st in yards per attempt at 5.86, 17th in 3rd down conversions at 42.7%, tied for 9th with 22.8 points/game, tied for 17th with 23 turnovers, and tied for 17th with a -2 turnover margin.

While this doesn't compare, as the gameplan and personal was set up for running 90% of the time (no matter the yards to go, down or situation), I think it's impressive as well, as in 30+ years of playing (this gameplan) it happened just once:
Player Pos Team GP GS Att Yards Avg Lg TD
Brennan, Les RB DAL 16 16 372 1761 4.7 50 6
Newsome, Joey RB DAL 16 0 238 1280 5.3 69 6
Van Brocklin, Robbie FB DAL 16 13 257 1095 4.2 24 7

All in all I had 910 Attempts for 4225 Yards (4.64 avg) - 264yards per game.
Obiously running this much means that we weren't airing it out all that often:
70 attempts 36 completions for 821 yards as well as 14 touchdowns and 1 Interception.

My Runningbacks were rated the following:
Les Brennan, 4th Pick in the 1st Round 6 years experience, 72/73
Joey Newsome, 19th pick of the 1st Round, Rookie, 55/62
Robbie Van Brocklin, 31st pick of the 2nd Round, 4th year, 85/85

My offensive line wasn't all that great at that time though, with just the center and right guard being rated higher than 46/99 in runblocking.
those to had 89/235 KRB (Center) and 57/170 (RG) KRB.

My QB was 80/80 14th year veteran carson palmer who could play all 18 formations. because he was rather injury prone at that time he went unsigned through both free agency periods andso I picked him up for 3 years and pretty cheap right before training camp.

-------

Progressing some years I altered my game plan somewhat and let my QB (an improving former 7th round draft pick, playing his second year in the league) throw for about 2500 yards.
My offensive line just had the best LT in the game, I just reached about 10 picks and drafted a RB (42/55) with the 11th overall pick. I guess he would've been available at around pick 20 as well, but so it goes. His future potential dropped by a point after I drafted him, so I was expeting him to be slightly worse than anticipated. I was almost resigned to have just wasted a draft pick, when I found myself looking at his production:
260 for 1377 yards (5.2 avg) and 7 TD earning offensive rookie of the year numbers.
That would have been pretty good, If I didn't have my starting RB (80/80 rated), who gained 1618 yards on 345 attempts (4.6 avg) and 9TD).

I'm happy this thread appeared, I've been waiting to write about my 3 1000yards back for quite some time now ;)
