DVD/CD drive computer question

I'm thinking in the process of getting a tv tuner card for my computer, and it says that it needs to plug into my computer's analog sound port. I already have my dvd drive and cdr drive plugged into each analog port. I read somewhere that they don't have to be plugged in for my the sound to still work. Does anyone know what settings I need to change to make it work?
