View Full Version : OT - Mozilla/Netscape problem with .mp3 files

There's usually an answer for computer related stuff around here, figured I'd give this a try.

I'm using Mozilla 1.6 (switched after years of Netscape use)

The problem comes when I'm trying to listen to an .mp3 file via clicking a link
(not d'loading the file to my PC, just want to click & listen).

I've set & re-set, checked & double-checked my "Preferences-Navigator-HelperApps-audio/mp3" settings, they clearly show as
MP3 Format Sound - Extension(s) - mp3 - When encountered "open these files with WMPlayer.exe"

I've made sure that the preferences are exactly the same in both Mozilla & Navigator but ... every stinking time I try to play an .mp3, it opens with the QuickTime plug-in (well, I assume that's the case since I see their logo) instead of WMPlayer.

WTF have I not set correctly in order to bypass QT & use WMP? The file association outside the browsers is also set to WMP & works just fine (like when I play a file on my harddrive), this only happens in the within-browser scenario described above.

I've tried everything I can think of except deleting the QT plug-ins. Anybody got a better idea?

(FWIW, I'm being picky about it because QuickTime/QuickPlayer/Whatever ItShouldBeCalled crashes me about 1 use out of three, and when it doesn't crash it still fails to load the audio file completely)

This is driving me batty & being a complete PITA while I'm trying like hell to get some work involving mp3's finished.http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/%7Efof/forums/images/smilies/mad.gif

Any help is appreciated.
