View Full Version : FBCB: How far can I go with Savannah State?

Limited Conference Movement.

I definitely want to get them into a Conference. After that, how far can I go? Should I take the first next-tier job offer, or is it possible to ride them all the way to a Level 5 Conference?

I imagine it would take quite a frigging while to keep moving them up.

Probably be better off accepting new jobs unless you plan on playing this dynasty for a loooonnng time.

I dunno, I'm just going off my experience coaching New Hampshire. I did the dynasty here, and then several seasons afterward..winning the Conference I think 9-10 times in a row and the same with conference tourney, and never saw any conference movement.

Prestige did go up though.

Not sure how far you can take them. I started a no movement career with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Inital prestige of 2. After 10 seasons I got my first FBIT bid. It took 18 seasons to get a FBCA bid (#14 West). It took 22 seasons until I won the FBIT. In the 28th season I finally made the Sweet 16, and that same year I landed my first 5 star recruit. Gonna stick it out with TAM-CC until I'm forced to retire (not sure if that happens) or finally win the FBCA.

I think there's a "limit" to your prestige climbs at each level. So when you're in a level 1 conf, you can hit a max of 20 or 30 prestige, and so on. And since it'll be tough to move between each level (you'll need basically 20-25+ wins in the regular season for several straight seasons), it'd take a while.

That's pretty durned cool; do you have conference movement on?

Nope, I didn't enable conference movement. It's been a long, difficult struggle. Some seasons I can get the players and scheduling I want, other times I'm stuck fighting over 1 and 2 star recruits. I was stunned when one of the one stars ended up getting National Freshman of the year honors early in the career.

I won the NCAA Championship in 2008 with Harvard in a fluke year. I was 33-1 that year, but despite staying until 2020 and winning the Ivy League 11 of the next 12 years I couldn't get past the second round again and left for Duquesne and then quickly Kansas.

As a level 7 coach, I started out at Boston University (I believe they start at around prestige 42) in the American East. It's a good confence to start in I feel, because you have a mix of poor teams (Binghamton, Northeastern) and some strong teams (Maine, Vermont, Boston U.). Anyhow, I'm in season 5 and I've won the conference each of the previous four seasons, never winning less than 20 games in a season. Despite this, I've only made the NCAAs once (first round, seed #14), and the NIT twice (knocked out in the first round, and made it to the third round last season).

I have limited conference movement turned on, and I've managed to get my prestige up at around 54. Should be interesting to see if I can move my way up to a higher conference. I'm trying to avoid taking a coaching gig at another school.. I'm just way too attached to my players at BU, including my incomming recruits :)

I'm still yet to win a championship with any school I've coached. Closest I came was in my 6th season with Gonzaga (after 12 seasons prior with Colgate), where I made the elite eight.

OK. Has anyone actually seen an indy get into a conference? I'm a little fuzzy on all of the criteria, but here is my performance to date:

My Prestige is up to 35. Incidentally, there's a little bug there apparently. I won my first round NIT game in 2015. I lost in the 2nd round actually.

Darn good SD. I'm using Sav. St. as well and although I've been landing a few 3* recruits, I'm always losing my asst. coach. :)

This year I'm 1-8 to start the year with my team to date.

Just curious...did you win a preliminary game and lose your first round game? From reading Marmel's dynasty (haven't had time to play lately), there's a preliminary game for the NIT.

Well SD, it doesn't look good for ya. I'm running a computer sim from 1930 on. It's now 1963, and all of the Independent teams are still in place. After looking through some of the other conferences, I only see maybe 10 teams that have moved conferences.

It appears that it will take a combination of your prestige going much higher, while having an existing team's getting much lower. I'll keep simming, and see what the movement looks like after 70 years.

If I start making the big dance consistently and don't get a conference invite, I'll take another job.

SkyDog: You're close... I think if you win 20+ games for 4-5 more years, you'll start gettnig invitiations regularly, and your prestige should steadily climb. Within 5 or 6 years after that, if you don't get a conferene invite, yea', you may need to move on.

Keep us updated!

Another question: is there any downside, besides players missing more games because of injuries, to "clumping" your schedule early in the season when playing with an independent? I guess my biggest question is this: does fatigue carry over from one game to the next?

Fatigue due to playing games close together isn't a factor so it won't hurt you to clump the games together.
