I guess it was released recently. Someone posted a thread last week that covered all the new features in EA Sports' latest baseball game and it looked impressive. It added a lot of text sports sim features like most of EA's games this year. Anyone have it yet? First impressions?

There's a message board over at EASports... I'm sure you can find some answers there :)

well it doesn't have year to year stats which is a total bummer for me!

There is another thread discussing this already.

There is quite a few complaints going on at the EA Board.. I'll probably end up getting a different game then.

Gasp! They screwed up gamepad compatibility again! WTF? Only 5 models that work? I wasn't able to use my thumbsticks on Madden for the longest time, I thought they would have been more careful with their next sports title.

You should know by now, PC is an afterthought for EA. Too bad, although I'm glad I bought it on Xbox. Many many less complaints on consoles.

I got it today....I like it so far, but that doesn't say much. I spent the first hour updating the rosters. Including Barry "The Team" Bonds....

By the way, I need to explain the nickname "The Team" Since the Giants don't have Jeff Kent or Ellis Burks or anyone else for that matter to protect Barry in the lineup, he basically is "The Team" now. He's the only Superstar and only batter on the Giants who's going to make the All Star team...Sad, but true.
A few of the "power guys to help out Bonds this year:
Grissom, Alfonzo, Durham. Those are the only player capable of hitting over 20 homers in my view. I think Bonds is going to break the Walk record this year.

what, again? or do you mean the career walk record?

I have it for PC, haven't done much yet for lack of time, but so far I like the look and it hasn't crashed.

I read the review about "dynasty mode" and thought I'd give it a shot. Stupid move. Why do I even try games like this? One day I'll learn. I bought Madden, and now this. A few comments:

No year-to-year stats.
No team history.
No career records.
No Hall of Fame as far as I can tell.
No record on player card of awards won.

I could go on, but you get the point. "Dynasty Mode" is obviously a tiny bone thrown out to try to attract some suckers like me. I hope EB will let me return it. Sometimes they have in the past.

I assume this is the case no matter the version, PC or console?

I assume this is the case no matter the version, PC or console?I wouldn't know about console, but I can't imagine them including that stuff for the joystick jockeys, and not for PC gamers.

In general, it looks about like what I was expecting - a pretty good arcade game with a decent dynasty mode in the background. I'm not looking for OOTP out of this - same as I'm not looking for FOF out of Madden. But I like the arcade play enough that it's worth picking up a PC game with good arcade modes that has some backend.

But I'll find out this weekend, when the Lady goes visiting her maid of honor, and I get a day to myself. :-D

Why are we even talking about such a game on this particular forum then ?

Sorry to hear that. I hope they allow you to return it as well. I was thinking about this game for the exact same reason you did - dynasty mode. I can't believe it didn't at least include year-to-year stats. We're talking baseball, THE sport for stats. What were they thinking?

What were they thinking?"D00d, everybody's gonna wanna by this becuz it has KEWL graphics!!!"*

*-Yes, they spell like that in their thoughts as well. ;)

I buy OOTP for dyansty mode. I'm not going to play huge amounts of seasons to make it matter too much in a dynasty. I love the way the pitcher/batter interface works, fielding seems to matter...I'd say its one of the better arcade baseball games I've played. Also, you must remember that this is still a second generation baseball game for EA Canada...probably not a good excuse, but still.

I just say that you need to go for a good text sim for dynasties and a good "arcade" game for gameplay. You wouldn't expect OOTP6 to have good graphics, because they spend so much time on the sim engine. Just like that, you shouldn't expect a hugely deep dynasty mode on a console game because they spend so much time on graphics. EA is still a business, they try to make money, they can't just put everyone they employ on a game to make it the best game ever...maybe if people like us worked for EA for free, then maybe...but we're not willing to do that because WE need to make money too.

2. We're not talking "hugely deep." I'm no programmer by any means, but I'm fairly certain I could write a routine in what I remember from BASIC in Junior High that can keep year-to-year stats, and career leaders. Those are pretty rudimentary elements of a game that brags about letting you play 120 seasons.

1. I understand you bought the PC version, but I don't think you should really expect a different game from PC to console. Again, there is limited time and do you really expect them to make two games? The only thing I can think of is High Heat which had expanded features on PC than PS, but, they didn't focus on graphics, and I'm sure the PS sales were hurt because of the worse graphics. Look where that franchise is now. Bottom line for the companies: Console games sell more copies, cater to the console.

2. I'll give you that, it's pretty stupid. I can see the Hall of Fame criteria being hard...or maybe something else. But I mean, the Ps2 has a big memory card, the PC and Xbox have hard drives, they should be able to store that information there. It's not like there's a formula for it. But, as far as playing the game (my main reason for purchasing), its not going to hurt me much there...and at least they have career stats.

I don't know if this is true or not but I once heard that EA Sports designs all games for the Playstation 2 first and then ports them to the computer and Xbox. So basically we get limited features because the game was meant for a Playstation and a memory card that doesn't hold as much as the hard drives on an Xbox or computer.

It's all about sales. Thousands upon thousands more console games are sold compared to the PC. Graphical sport games are all but gone on the PC.
