#25 and MWC regular season champ Air Force goes down to Colorado St in the quarters.
Louisville could have really secured a spot by beating Cincinnati, but lost on a late bucket.
Same thing for Notre Dame against UConn.
Washington and Mizzou are in very close games right now.
Teams are certainly making it even tougher on the selection committee. Not to mention St Joe's getting annihilated by Xavier ... the #1 seeds are all up for grabs.

:(
AF had a miraculous season, esp. with everyone predicting them to finish last in the MWC. I'm hoping they get in like Wyoming did in 2002 due to winning the regular season (including setting the record for most number of conference wins).

Louisville is already in.. their SoS is way high.. even with their late season slide..

Most analysts seemed to think they were a lock before today, but you can bet they'll be a little uneasy sitting on the couch on Sunday.
edit: talking about AF before Ragone snuck in ... actually, I guess my comment applies to Louisville as well :D

Wash pulled it out, and Mizzou is about to. Still, they didn't exactly impress anyone like they need to. Now that Memphis and Providence have gone down, the Top 25 is 4-5 today, with Arizona yet to play.

AF lost to Texas Pan-American. It's ridiculous to think they should be in the NCAA tournament. Granted, it was on the road, but they have an assistant coach they picked up from my high school...and it wasn't like he had a long and illustrious career there...he was there for a season and also taught biology.

Air Force lost to UTPA?!?!?!? Even my Wright State team (who finished 14-14, 10-6 Horizon) beat them by TWENTY POINTS!!! That's super-sad...maybe AF doesn't deserve a bid like I thought ;)
Seeing teams with a 14-12 record get an at-large makes me sick. MID-MAJORS FOREVER!!! :)

Screw Air Force and the rest of the MWC. The WAC was the far superior conference this season.
Can't wait to see my Miners in the Big Dance again... :)

So does GT get a 3-seed now, or do they need to win tomorrow?

Personally, I think they need to win tomorrow, but a lot of people (including Lunardi) as a 3 coming into today.

Good heavens, USAFA has a coach who actually is a legitimate educator! A pox on them! God forbid any team, with someone on the coaching staff who would dare to soil himself by actually teaching somebody about something more than basketball theory (see Jim Harrick Jr) should be allowed in anything so sacred as the NCAA tournament!.
Sooner, I think you have completely lost any grip on anything in this world that is truly important.

Leonidas: Chill out.
I think he was saying UTPA has that assistant coach. Secondly, I think the point he's making is that "this guy is a teacher who was a coach as a side job; not vice versa".
Relax.

With a SOS of 133? And with the WAC only qualifying one team? I don't think so.

If it was a UTPA coach, then I misconstrued. But my issue still remains. I think all coaches should have to be a part of the faculty. Why has our culture gone so overboard on sports that we would be shocked to see a coach of a major college team also teach a real college class, let alone hold that against somebody for losing a game? To me it's a pretty sad statement of where we have come. So no, I have no intention of chilling out because I think it is more absurd to make an issue of this than the issue itself. Coaches should be educators and we should not be upset or hold it against them for doing so.

Yes, I was saying that basically UTPA got an assistant coach who had been the head coach at my high school for a year, and didn't do much important there...but I mentioned that he taught biology as an aside (to call him an "educator" might go too far, his main teaching method seemed to be videos, from those I knew who had him)...but he was still a licensed teacher.
Anyway, my main point is they have an assistant who coached at my high school.

Being a fan of a Sun Belt Conference school, where UTPA was once a member, all I can say is that you'd be surprised how many schools would lose a game at UTPA (the key being in Edinburgh). It's in the middle of nowhere and they have a screwy little poorly-lit high school gym where weird stuff happens sometimes. I don't know how Air Force got roped into playing there in the first place.

24-6 after tonights win over Boise. Co-WAC champions and they have made it to the WAC tournament finals. They have an RPI in the mid-forties, and it will hopefully go up a spot or two after tonights win.
No matter the outcome of tomorrow's UTEP-Nevada final, I think both of those teams will make it in.
And don't try to talk trash when you're defending Air Farce. An RPI of 69 and a SOS of 232??? There's no way that they deserve to get into The Dance...
