First things first - I use both AdAware and SbyBot search and destory regularly.

That being said. I am having some serious spyware/pop-up issues recently. When I boot up my computer, there are a few spyware type programs running (clearly from my registry). The names appear to be "version" which is a really annoying piece of shit. Now, a brand new thing called "searchnav" is absolutely killing me today. I'm ready to put a brick through my monitor.

all help will be greatly appreciated.

Get Tracks Eraser Pro. There is a free version thats good for 30 days. It saved me when AdAware and Spybot couldnt get rid of a nasty spyware I had.

cool. I'm running "spy sweeper" right this minute. But that's up next if i don't appear to be cool upon re-boot.

If I can find one of these utilities that does the job very well, I will gladly purchase the full version.

Spy Sweeper is my main protector... but I still have this one fairly frequent program that always pops up... which i delete with control+alt+delete every time

It's always an assortment of numbers like...
AZSW273.exe

or something like that

With AdAware, make sure you use the check for updates option before you run the scan. If it doesn't find one and you haven't downloaded an update in the past week or so, then you probably don't have the most recent version of the program. The old version won't let you download any of the new updates.

I use adware, search and destroy plus spyblaster and Regsupreme which is great to clean out registry keys that are left over.link reg supreme (http://www.macecraft.com/php/content.php?lg=en&id=products_rs&did=)

how do you shut down the programs your pc runs that you don't need? i apparently have like 34 running processes according to adaware (which i love), and i think if i close some of those programs my PC would theoretically run faster (which i'd hardly notice, i have a pretty kick-ass machine as it is, i just don't like the thought of wasting it's processing power). and if you know how or which ones to shut down, how do i make it so that they don't automatically run each time i boot the PC. thanks for any info you can pass.

is anyone like me, whenever you finish scanning your PC with adaware and it tells you how many spyware registry keys were in your PC don't you feel violated and kinda creepy each time? it never fails. i really do get that feeling that i was being watched and my actions were being reported to the watchers. lol. yes, i'm 26 years old.

hxxp://www.sofotex.com/StartupRun-download_L13376.html

This program tells you what startup programs run when you log on, and also identifies spyware that runs on startup. You can also edit, delete, disable and do whatever the hell else you want. Only 24k, and it's freeware, so you really can't beat it.

goto start, run, [type in] msconfig

there should be a tab called startup. From there you can uncheck anything that you don't want to startup at boot time.

msconfig works, ok. The thing that bothers me is when you select something to not start up, and because you open it once, it reverts and starts up the next time you turn your computer on.

I had this problem with start-up programs I didn't want running, but I didn't know which ones were ok to disable. This website, hxxp://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_content.php, lets you type in the name of a file in the startup tab of msconfig and tells you exactly what it does, whether or not it's safe to have not start up, and so forth. It also gives detailed instructions how to do it for multiple operating systems.
