Like? I'm going by how popular 1942 was, and how fun it was the one time I tried it out... hopefully they don't screw around with it too much.. :(

People need to remember usually it takes one patch for ANY game to be solid. I've heard of some lag issues but as DICE has show us they are quick to fix such things. BF1942 was laggy and then they quickly resolved that. I've heard of some lag issues with BF:V but I'm sure if they exist they will be resolved quickly.

Much lower framerate than BF1942
AA/AF not working on ATI cards because EA sold out to Nvidia
Takes a gig of ram to run smoothly
No improvement in netcode
All in all its like a slow running Desert Combat with trees & grass

Don't shoot me, its only what I've read.

I've heard some of the same things, j51. My big thing is, I'm just sorta tired of the "realistic" shooters. After the past few years of playing Operation Flashpoint, Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, and Socom II (PS2) I find myself looking for a little less "realism" and some good old fashioned, gut laughing fun.

Thats why I'm overlooking BF this time around and grabbing UT2004. After playing the demo I found myself feeling like I did when I used to play Tribes, Tribes2 and the original UT. It is a fun twicth-fest game that with this iteration actually has some pretty good depth and team strategy for those interested in exploring it (Especially the new Onslaught mode and returning Assault mode).

While the style might not be for everyone, if your looking for a well balanced multiplayer FPS with vehicles and interesting gameplay modes... I'd definetly check out the free demo (Think its about 209 megs.)

My pre-order for BFV should arrive at my doorstep today.

I will probably pickup UT2004 too.

There's three good FPSs coming out in the next week or two: Far Cry, UT2K4, and BF:Vietnam... so hard to decide what to get. I'm most likely getting BF:Vietnam, but I think any of these three games wil provide your moneys worth.

I wasn't that big of a fan of Far Cry's multiplayer. The game just doesn't do anything for me. As for UT2k4 haven't really checked it out, I'm too big on the "realistic" war stuff like the BF series and Desert Combat to really care much about arcadey stuff anymore.

BF 1942 realistic??? huh????

i never bought the game but i played the demo a long time ago. I remember running around in circles jumpng up and down with another guy trying to shoot eachother.

Realistic to me is Ghost Reacon... not a game with a health meter.but like i said, i played the demo a long time ago i could be wrong.

As you can see I said "realistic" as in historically realistic. The fighting in BF is much more realistic then MoH:AA though. I played some Ghost Recon I used to be a big R6 fan just never really got into it. Besides nothing beats rolling up in my Bradley or BMP like I can in Desert Combat.

dangarion, if you have a broadband connection you might want to check out the ut2k4 demo. I understand your like for the more "realistic" shooters, I was the same way for the longest time. But if you find some good people to play with, the "frag-fest" type games (Quake, Tribes, UT.) can be alot of fun.

I'm not so much trying to pimp the retail game, but the demo. For the cost (free.) it gave me some of the best gaming fun I've had in a long time. Even my sister who usually *despises* these types of games had a blast when I set up the demo on a 4 person LAN. (Not so sure it was the game, or the fact she was repeatedly headshotting her husband with a rocket launcher.. ;) )

Anyways, enough of me trying to turn all you BF fans to the dark side of smacktard and asshat bunnyhopping UT players. ;) I'd love to here some reviews, pro's/cons from anyone who has picked up BF:V as like a few others I'll probably pick it up after a while with my other recent game pick ups if it turns out to be a decent game.

I spent 2 hours running around to six stores looking for a copy of BF:Vietnam this afternoon. It was either sold out(software etcs' and gamestop) or nowhere to be seen(comp usa and circuit city).

I ended up ordering it online.

Eilim I actually tried it out today. I just can't get into UT2k4 and I liked UT. Just like Q3A didn't really like it. It's cool for lan party but nothing beats playing BF with my Clan VX9 or CoD.

MikeVic

I bought it today. Played one game offline, and one game online. The bots aren't the smartest... and online had some spike lag... but besides those too things, I loved the game. It's only version 1.0, so they'll hopefully make the bots smarter, and maybe fix the lag. Unless it was the server I was playing on...

The music is amazing too. I feel like I got my money's worth with just the music to listen to. :) Nothing like driving a tank over people, playing that song: "War. HUH! What is it good for. Absolutely nothing!" ;) You can go the Apocalypse Now route and play that Valkyrie song from a helicopter too, I guess. I could hear it coming from above me when I was crawling in grass. :)

Thanks for the info, MikeVic. I'll definetly keep my eyes open on the feedback for BF:V then, probably pick it up sometime in the near future. I have to admit, the issues around the release of the original BF:1942 sorta scared me away from the franchise.

I completely understand dangarion. I have to admit the quake series didn't "do it" for me, but for some reason I really latched onto UT. UT2003 was a let down for me but 2004 has really grabbed onto me. I think its because it reminds me so much of Tribes 2 which stole a large portion of my life. :)

Oh, and sorry to hear about your probs finding BF, STK.. In a twisted sort of irony it took me trips to 5 different stores to grab UT2004 (and ended up not getting the DVD edition, damn thing is sold out everywhere.) and saw BF:Vietnam at all the stores I went to. I was almost to the point of saying to hell with it and picking it up instead of UT when Best Buy came through for me. :)

I'm thinking about UT2K too. I found the demo fun.

Personally, im holding out for Soldner: Secret Wars in a month or so...it looks like crazy fun, and it seems like it is really trying to make the game massive(just go read about it). In my mind, this could end up the multiplayer hit of the year.

After discovered operation flashpoint, i can't play any other shooter, i love it's realism, huge maps and strategic options, just would like an updated graphic engine and more campaigns, i'm currently playing with the nam 1969 mod and i really enjoy it.
I also enjoyed a lot Call of Duty as i love any game related to WWWII, but it was too scripted, i missed the OPF freedom.

I'll keep an eye out for Soldner... I'm skeptical about 128 players on one server though. If they can make it happen, that would be so awesome. I skimmed through the IGN review, and when I saw the score they gave for Sound... I couldn't get myself to actually read the review. And then I see that they gave the soundtrack a 6.8... they clearly don't appreciate the sound and music as much as I do, so I can't agree with their views.

Overnight shipping is nice.

The game has a much darker tone than BF:1942. I can't explain it, but it does. That said, the fun factor is still there. There's nothing like scoping out targets with a sniper rifle, hidden in the jungle, only to be killed by a passing Phantom napalming your ass(multiplayer).

It's not nearly as polished as BF:1942 but it is a few steps ahead considering it's version 1.0.

Can any of this stuff be played with a 56k? I should say, can it realistically be played with a 56k

I don't think so... I'll have to check if there's a filter for 56K connections, but with my Cable modem I'm getting lag spikes soemtimes. A 50-player game is out of the question for me, and I'm playing more like 32-36 player games right now to minimize the lag.

The more I play BFV the more I love it. It is so much more improved than BF1942.

15 new maps!! 14 with the game and 1 new one over at planetbattlefield called valley assault. I love playing as a sniper. Now if I can just learn to fly I'll be set.

I ordered UT2004 2 days ago and received it yesterday. I haven't opened the box yet, but I will this weekend. (Also EBgames has a $10 rebate for users who upgrade from UT2003 and there is also a $20 gift voucher rebate. Not bad at all. Almost like buying the game for $10!!)

flying around is a blast except the coop thing wasn't on so I napalmed all our snipers hiding in the trees. They started yelling at me so I told them to quit hiding and die like real men. :D

I had my best start to a game of BF:V so far, killing two VCs right while making my way towards a tank. The tank was being operated by two VCs, and were killing a few of the Americans... so I threw two grenades at it... and as the second one blew up the tank, an American-driven jeep ran into the tank, with the exposion killing both of the Americans. My score went down to -2 or something like that... and while I finished with 7 kills and 2 deaths, my score was only at 1.

Damn people running into tanks. :D

if you like infantry, don't pick the basic soldier. I use the machine gunner. You get an M60 and a LAW. But you don't take any moving penalty for carrying the both of them so you can basically kill anything on the ground between the two.

They will probably fix it because you can do some serious damage with a little posse of machine gunners. :D

I have been playing WWII:Online since the god awful bug filled days of it's original release date. Now the idea of what they were working towards has been realized, and it has become one of the most addicting, fun, and realistic games you can ever play.
