I have a problem with this game folks.

I can't resist playing with my toys. By this I mean that I simply must coach my games. I want to play a game that lasts many seasons but every time I try I simply have to watch my guys play. It's the ultimate payoff for a job well done and it's missing in a lot of games. I don't sim this game because I wouldn't enjoy it.

I just started YANG ( yet another new game ) and I even named this one SimOnlyLeague. I was giving myself a HUGE hint here. I intended to keep my promise too but as I was doing my start of game team eval I kept getting more and more disappointed. So much potential.

I'm looking at my centers.

Jr C Saul Allgood with his inside/outside offensive game. His defense is all post but this guy could really work an unsuspecting forward who's stuck in a man system. Hell, he could cause a team to abandon man actually.

Who is his replacement to be? Will it be C Tony Kimmel, the 7 foot freshman who has no offensive game but is a steady defender and could become a great one? Maybe it will be 6'10" fellow freshman who has an offensive game but who is a guard masquerading as a center and not a really gifted one either. Two parts of the Allgood game but neither looks destined to have a complete game. Who will I play? Both.

I want to use both. I want to use them when I need them and against who I want them to match up with. This is the thing. I can't really do that by simming. I can only generalize. It's happening as the game clearly shows but I'm not a part of it. It's a hell of a compromise for speed.

BTW, the computer clearly does a better job than I do at this so it's wiser to just sim. I'm sure the computer is judging matchups and making good choices but I can't be sure they would be my choices. The game also has an instant gratification reward when you put in a scrub and he hits a couple of 3's in a critical time.

I really get the sense that I learn my players game and once I feel I really know my boys, the conference games begin and the computer proves that I'm an idiot and I love every minute of it. So far, this game is absolutely the best in capturing the players "game." Their on court personality if you will. After watching a few games, you really know more or less how each guy plays. It's great.

If HR ever decides to work on the players off court personality this game could be downright scary.

Dola, the in game representation is an interesting one to me. I think certain sports have an advantage here. It makes comparisons sorta invalid.

Football, for example. There's really no way to get to know 53 players game over a 16 game season. There's not enough time, real or game time to so this. FOF2k4 does a great job of getting me to know my stars and even my starters games but vs the intimacy of a 15 man squad. Forget about it.

Players fall through the cracks. Some stop for such a short drink of water that you find yourself saying 'who?' pretty often. Never happens in a 15 man roster. I think it's very cool to have this kind of immersion but I don't judge other sims by it.

It's not the same game.

FWIW, I think off-court stuff is going to be a big addition to the new FBB. In FBB I never "connected" the way I do in FBCB (since I recruit and coach these guys 120 times). I think the college game is just so more fit for a sim, but it looks like HR might make the new FBB nearly as good.

Also, we can hope that the off-court stuff continues into the next FBCB, if there is one.

Be quiet infidel!!!!

There simply must be another one.

:)

Oh, and I agree that college basketball may be the best sport to simulate gamewise. I wish I was more of a fan of the real product. :)

The only missing when coaching is the ability to yell at my shooting guard for shooting yet another 3 pointer after I change the settings to ZERO for 3 pt use.

I hope HR appreciates that we FBCB addicts are taking over the board! :)

Question...is FBCB the "sequel" to Tournament Dreams? TD never really ran that well on my old PC and I have yet to load it on my new one.

Is the sim speed of FBCB faster than the sim speed of TD? How does FBCB compare to TD? If anyone has a link to some people's impressions or whatever, that'd be cool. I'm not looking to buy this game now, but probably in a few months when the number of games I play is smaller. Thanks in advance :)

Fast Break College Basketball and Tournament Dreams College Basketball are put out by different companies. (HR puts out the FB series, .400 sports does the TD series)

I have nothing against Arlie Rahn, Great guy, created a good game, and then went pro with an even better game, TDCB. But FBCB blows TDCB out of the water six ways from here to sunday.

Way 1: Tighter engine.. TDCB feels more like your watching a text based play by play.

2: FBCB uses the same engine to play out your game as the sim, TDCB uses two different engines from what I hear (please do not take that as gospel)

3: Recruiting is better in FCB, you get more of a feeling of the recruiting rat race

4: Multiplayer: TDCB was out first, and had multiplayer first, but it is EXTREMELY clunky to my untrained eye. FBCB.. well.. the fact that I run a league (see sig) should be a good idea about how smooth and easy it is to run

5: Conference Movement, something possible in FBCB that was not as last time I checked in TDCB

6: FBCB's immersion factor. Just look at the # of threads that have.. "Well, I wanted to get to bed early, but I found myself awake at midnight, muttering to my self "One more (game/season/dynasty)"

In other words..

GET.

THIS.

GAME.

Can you elaborate more on this, SirFozzie? I've been meaning to find some screenshots of a game in progress, but apparently couldn't find any on the website. They seem to be screens of stats and the like.

Huka: I don't mean it presents the game differently depending on whether you sim or play. I mean it determines who wins and loses (and the stats) differently based off whether you actually watch/coach the game or sim it without looking at it.

Not acceptable to a psuedo-grognard like me, who might sim half of his games and coach the other half. I want consistency in how the result is determined.
