I'm sure this has been said over and over, but holy crap on a hot tin roof batman!!!

note from my current career:

The carolina Panthers are among 28 teams running so badly in the red as to seem unmanageable. The Panthers in year 1992 LOST 249 MILLION dollars, the other 28 teams to lose money in 1992 included 21 teams losing over 100 MILLION each. a handful of others lost between 30 and 90 million each with only 4 teams breaking even or making money.

I have the lowest ticket and box prices in the league, My bengals made 124 million in PROFIT in 1992.

how the hell does this happen?????

sorry, just had to say something after reading through the balance sheets.

Your league should be contracted to 4 teams :)

It happens because they spend so much damn money on the coaching staffs. Early in the simulation I have seen them drop 8 million a year on a head coach. 5-6 million on assistants and sometimes over a mil for the scouts.

heh, no then I'd never have a challenge for the title, its finally gotten far enough along inlfation-wise that its getting tougher to keep the boys together.

that could be one reason, but even so, 249 million in the hole???? thats just insane.

holy shit, thats GOT to be a bug of some sort, I mean good god man......

oh and to clarify, I'm playing with FOF4, not 2004, so I've only got the coach and scout to pay ....

4th Edition? I'm playing FOF2K4.
I'm in the middle of my 2029 (or was it 2030) season, and the salaries of the coaching staffs have escalated in my league.
Quite a few of those years, I ended up just submitting with the default yearly salary that it was coming up with - and granted, they've been good coaches with the appropriate stats, I noticed a lot of the AI teams are going for the gusto.

Seems they've got the same idea, in regards to high profile coaches. I don't even want to explore what my scout is making. :eek:

Is this the case with anyone else in FOF2K4? Inflated coaching salaries? I think the longest contract I've had a coordinator sign was at most 4 years.

I've managed a few 5 year contracts, but I'm entering 2026 right now & head coach salaries are not infrequently $10m+ , coordinators can get $10m too, and I've got several scouts at/above $1m. It's a "Misfit Toys" dynasty, so I've pretty much long since stopped worrying about the balance sheet but it does seem to be pretty well ridiculous (I lost nearly $100m last year & was slightly better than the league average).

No, it's the alleged financial statements of MLB teams during talks with the MLB Players' Union. :p

In all honesty - I don't pay much attention to Balance Sheets and Team Financials. I just take note of the salary cap max limit, and contracts that way. Still - I'm very surprised with the inflated salaries for a coaching staff! I think my staff gets more yearly than a good 3/4ths of my roster!

My scouts, I plan on checking on in the future when I get home. But as far as my coaches go...I don't know. I'd always figure it'd be around 5 million, but nothing more. Then again, maybe 5 million might be too much a season for a coach. I'm so beyond the scope, I don't know what the originals were.

I'm seeing some strange financial numbers on the Balance Sheet in the career I just started. It seems my team and only a couple of others are reporting the Coaching expenses as 7x the Head Coache's salary. Many other teams figures are no where near this amount. CHI's HC is making $6+m, but the coaching expense is shown as $10m, if memory serves.

Is this a known issue?

Well, if I'm not mistaken...the HC also includes a list of 'staff' alongside the HC himself?

That's not it though. The figures shown on the B/S are being calculated completely differently for different teams. I'll post specifics later.

Ok, some numbers below. The "x" denotes expired contract for that staff member. The only pattern I see is that all teams where coaching expense does not equal 7x HC expense are teams that finished 7-9 that season.

Balance Sheet Coaching Expenses

ARI - 34,300,000
HC- 4,900,000
DC- 500,000
OC - 720,000

Cost = 7x HC

ATL - 10,710,000
HC- 1,530,000
DC- 500,000
OC - 5,270,000

Cost = 7x HC

BAL - 3,640,000
HC- 1,710,000
DC- 2,300,000 x
OC - 3,880,000

Cost = ??

BUF - 12,880,000
HC- 1,840,000
DC- 580,000
OC - 3,020,000 x

Cost = 7x HC

CHI - 12,880,000
HC- 6,300,000
DC- 520,000
OC - 1,230,000
Cost = ??

TBY - 45,850,000
HC- 6,550,000
DC- 810,000
OC- 1,300,000

Cost - 7x HC

Any thoughts? Anyone seen similar issues on the Balance Sheet?

Does profitability matter at all, other than the rating - can I get fired if I loose too much money?

I have. What happened is that I was given a warning by my owner that I was too unprofitable. I fired my coaches and scouts and replaced them with cheap knock-offs to get back into the black. Then I built a new stadium. After a few years in the red because of the stadium, I was fired without any additional warning. I probably should have accepted the firing, but I didn't because 1.) I didn't want to end the career and 2.) I don't need another reason.

If you are fired, will another team be willing to hire you, eventually (after a year or so) if not immediately?

I believe it's 'Game Over' if you accept the firing.

It's over--always and forever--if you accept the firing.
