Oh joy, another FOFC thread about system troubles with the eNFL.
Here's what I know.
My whole site is down. I'm still getting email, but I've apparently burned up the 3 GB data transfer allotment for the month. So, the board is down for the rest of the month.
I know exactly where the transfer leak happened as well. I'm betting the farm on the War Room, and the preference list page. Every time that page loaded, it probably transferred somewhere in the neighborhood of 100K per reload. That adds up over the course of 30 users and a six day draft. I will focus on streamlining that page for the next go-round.
It almost has to be that. I mean, we had league files around 2 MB at the end of last season, and nothing adverse happened.
So, that being said, I will be setting up a makeshift home page for league information, along with the league file on my backup web space. That will get done by tomorrow evening. I plan to move forward with the schedule, but just move it back a day.
Look for the links here and in your email boxes once I set them up.

This will give each of you extra time to think about the advice you were going to post in the 'Training Camp' thread so I would know how to not have the #1 draft choice next year.
You may now post said advice on this board in the 'Strategies' section. Carry on. ;)

Yeah the site is up.

This is going to pretty much kill trading in this league since we have no PM system in place. Or forums where teams can post their trade lists.

First of all, yes, your stage file was received and imported.
Secondly, I noticed this as well, as both FAs that I targeted with Detroit and San Diego failed to register their bids. I'm farily sure it has to do with teams releasing those players during the 2nd FA stages, therefore making them ineligible to be bid upon.

Thanks for answering, Tred.
Now, is this the time we try to sign our holdout rookies? Will it be done before training camp is done, as I thought someone said it must be done first, or they miss camp?
Also, can we NOW bid on those FA we mentioned above?
TredWel
03-22-2004, 11:51 PM
Yes. You have one more crack at signing your holdouts. If they accept your offer, they will come to training camp. Otherwise, you'll have to wait until the first week of Preseason to try again.
And now you should be able to bid on any and all free agents. Hopefully.

With the release of Pittman and nothing but backup material RB signings, Rogers from Miami and a late round pick, there offense is going to be one dimensional at best. Should be an easy game plan to completely shut down TB this year. There has to be a runningback in their future if they expect to go anywhere.
If I were the Bucs I would take a shopping trip to the AFC West. First there is my team, the Broncos, that has a fully developed back in Shaun Alexander. If that didn't pan out I would then head to Kansas City and see what kind of shape Larry Johnson is in post training camp.
Also, Manning in New Orleans should be fun to watch this year.

I hope you're right about the second part there... :) Our offensive line should be fine (as long as my rookie T comes out ok of training camp), and I'm sure Manning will do much better than last season. But there's still too many holes on defense so it might be a long season. Besides our dividion is a damn hard one.

What was your biggest Training camp Surprise?
For the Broncos it was not an explosion, but a lack of Implosion. When 12 year vet CB Jimmy Spencer went down in week 11 with a torn ACL I figured his football career was over. The end of the season rolled around and I fully expected him to retire. When Spencer anounced he was going to make an effort to play one more season I eagerly watched his offseason injury progress. Week after week rolled by and there was no sign that Spencer was recovering from his major injury and now as a 13 year vet I expected the worse.
Along came Training Camp and there was no doubt in my mind that Spencer was going to see a complete melt down. Spencer may not yet be fully participating in practice, but he is currently on schedule to be ready to assume his role as the Broncos starting LCB come opening day. This has to be the talk of this years Broncos training camp as this would of left a giganic hole in our secondary.

with treu not looking sharp and mo collins never looking like the answer, we were very surprised to see 4th year guard marquis sullivan cut by buffalo. so he is our biggest training camp surprise. throw in developing rookie guard badalyan, and we have 4 players we dont feel bad about starting at guard, compareed to 2 we were worried about.

I'm in the process of transferring the necessary files to run the reciept page over to the backup site. I'm about to start my fantasy baseball draft, however, so any tweaking that may be necessary to make it run might not get done for a few hours.
Oh, and my vote for the biggest surprises & busts of the latest rookie camp (The percentage represent the amount of ability gained or lost):
Surprises:
10. QB Howard Crook, 5(10), Minnesota, +13.0%. Despite the fact that he will be plagued with INT problems his entire career, Crook seems to have the arm strength and the accuracy to overcome that and become a good quarterback.
9. CB Harry Knight, 7(9), San Diego, +17.9%. Normally seventh-rounders only get a career of a few years. With some hard work, Knight may become a solid starter. He's definitely become than the borderline backup he was seen as before the draft.
8. S Troy Taft, 1(18), Atlanta, +18.8%. Despite being an obvious first rounder, early results have shown that Taft may exceed even those expectations and be a cornerstone of a lucky secondary for seasons to come.
7. QB Jack Bajwa, 6(18), Atlanta, +20.7%. Another QB making big leaps in the offseason. Isn't rated well now, but can learn a system and helm a team in a few seasons.
6. CB Harvey Foster, 3(31), Philadelphia, +22.8%. An excellent run stopper, and a very likely candidate to replace the aging Troy Vincent.
5. S Vinny Shannon, 4(16), Detroit, +25.4%. Looks to be a good balanced safety, not an outstanding one. Still, I'll take what I can get.
4. WR Lorenzo Gulley, 7(1), Carolina, +25.4%. Seventh round pickup, first round talent. With good hands and an affinity for the big play, look for him to shine after getting some experience.
3. RB Tommie Kadela, 7(29), Miami, +30.5%. Almost Mr. Irrelevant, but became Mr. Look-What-I-Found. A bruising back with the ability to catch the pass as well.
2. DT Dominic Buckley, 7(7), Houston, +34.8%. Brute force D-Lineman. If he learns a little technique, he will be very dangerous.
1. QB Gino Jansen, 4(24), Oakland, +40.4%. The obvious winner. A fourth round pickup, taken after media darling Glen Tucker and a host of other quarterbacks, this stud will end up surpassing them all. A great find for Oakland to replace Rich Gannon.
Busts (Excluding players dropping less than 8 points):
10. G Matthew Badalyan, 2(19), St. Louis, -13.6%. Still looks to develop into a decent offensive guard, but lost a little lustre.
9. T Ethan Dawkins, 1(29), Tampa Bay, -13.6%. Despite a very low volatility, Dawkins took a pretty big hit, and doesn't much resemble a first round selection now.
8. QB Warren Sunia, 1(22), Chicago, -13.8%. Still the Bears' best QB choice for the future, but doesn't look to be the franchise's long-term selection.
7. FB Britt Llewellyn, 2(16), Dallas, -15.0%. A good FB, but not the great FB he was made out to be in the combine.
6. S Fred Stargell, 3(32), Oakland, -15.7%. Looked to be a steal in the third round, but the Raiders ended up getting even money on their pick.
5. G Kelly Neitring, 2(20), Seattle, -16.7%. Lost a lot of his potential in camp. Hopefully that won't happen in the future.
4. T Travis Frimel, 2(7), Houston, -17.9%. Rated 4.7 by the bureau, and that looks kind right about now.
3. CB Irv Petitgout, 2(26), Tennessee, -22.4%. Hard to believe that I actually had this guy on my chart, hoping he'd fall to me in round three.
2. OLB Leroy Bennett, Carolina, -30.6%. Seems unkind to put an undrafted player on this list, but any upside he once had just flew out the window.
1. CB Steven Chilton, 3(28), Pittsburgh, -34.7%. Biggest loser in the league this season, as I have him losing 17 points of potential.

My line-up was changed last night players I had inactive were made active, any Idea what I am doing Wrong?
You signed Tim Wansley. Any time you pick up a free agent, the AI tends to think it needs to redo your depth chart... It's kind of a pain the ass. One of the annoyances of multi-player...

FOF2004 Utility: 3ric's Play-by-Play Viewer
This utility allows you to view a game log produced by FOF2k4 in a play-by-play format in real time.
To install:
1) Extract .zip file and run setup.exe
2) Copy the FOF4_logos folder found in the .zip file to the directory that you installed.
Instuctions:
1) Run FOF2k4Viewer
2) Select Game Log to view
to get the viewer to work without success, here is what I did:

I'm sending my file now, and I'm noticing it is only 2k. During FA the files were much bigger, and I'm submitting a contract renegotiation as well as putting several guys on the inactive list (as well as activating others), so I'm kind of concerned that the file is too small. Anyway, if you can let me know if there is any problem with it Tredwel, I would appreciate it.

The default directory should have come up during install as program files/View, at least it did for me. When I open the Viewer, it automatically opens a list from FOF/Universe with all available games to choose from.
However, when I try to watch a game, ALL THE FONTS ARE BLACK so I can't see what is going on. I am getting the logo files missimg thing, too, btw, though the logo file is there in the directory tree and if I double click them, I see the helmet that is supposed to be used.

Ok now I am getting the same thing I see the discripition writting of my team, and I see nothing on the visitors, and I am not seeing either of the helmet logos, does anyone have any ideas.
I did not have any problems with this program what so ever. I also don't remember having to install any logos with it. Here is what your files should look like.
C:\Program Files\View
Your View File should contain:
St6unst.log
game.dat
FOF2k4Viewer.exe
fof_teams.col
fbfield.bmp
default.txt
<-FILE->FOF4_logos
Your FOF4_logos file contains 35 gif images. All 32 teams plus an AFC,NFC and NFL image.
Now, click on your FOF2k4Viewer.exe program.
I get a window that says "select game to view - version 1.2" The right part of the window has a listing of my computer files and highlighted is the universe file. The file above the Universe file is the Front office File, so I double click on the FOF file. That bring up a listing of all the files in the FOF folder, so I double click on the League folder. That shows me a listing of the game logs. I select/highlight 16: Game Log: Washington at Oakland, this should be the last one down, and click OK.
That opens up the game for me. If that does not work you may want to start a thread in the general discussion are about your viewer problems.

make sure the default.txt file points to the "leagues" subdirectory of your FOF installation. Although it's been so long since I installed it that I can't remember anymore, it seems to me I ran into a problem because the default.txt file points to the default FOF installation and I installed FOF in a directory different than the default.
edit - p.s., Taur, if you change the default.txt to point to "leagues" instead of "universe" you don't have to manually change it every time.
- p.s., Taur, if you change the default.txt to point to "leagues" instead of "universe" you don't have to manually change it every time.
All I remember is the thing worked right out of the "box" for me. And, I don't know my head from a hole in the ground when it comes to the "Windows" OS.
So, if I had my FOF file somewhere else what would of happened? I opened the default.txt file and wondered what would of happened if I had installed my FOF program file say in a folder called games.
Now, Yabanci you are telling me to change my default.txt program
FORM: C:\Program Files\Solecismic Software\Front Office Football 2004\universe
TO: C:\Program Files\Solecismic Software\Front Office Football 2004\league
Correct?

correct. It worked out of the box for you because C:\Program Files\Solecismic Software\Front Office Football 2004\universe is the default FOF installation. I seem to remember that I had to make this change to make it work, because I have FOF installed somewhere else.
note: it should be "leagues," not "league." Changing it from universe to leagues is optional, of course. It will work whether you point it to universe or leagues.

Has anybody had any non-rookie "booms" during training camp? For me it was TE O.J. Santiago. He was rated about 35/35 before the draft and was coming off a season in which he sufferred a fairly serious injury (missed 11 games). I nearly released him but instead decided to keep him around as my third-string tight end, because he was cheap and had decent run blocking skill. Right after the draft, however, he "boomed" and nearly doubled his overall ratings. He's now a top 10 tight end. He's 30 years-old, in his 8th year, and has average volatility (47), so this was completely unexpected. I'm wondering if there were others like him.

its too late now, but next year i think we should have a stage in between then last preseason game and the first regular season game, to look over who has been cut. i think there will be a lot of moves in the first week with each team cutting 7 players, and i know i for one would be scared to touch any of them because, should i sign one, the game will automatically re-order my depth charts and all that. just a thought.
yabanci
03-31-2004, 06:30 PM
I had thought about that too, Pyser. I wasn't sure if it was possible to run a "cut" stage before we started out the first week of games. If so, it's a good idea.
With under an hour to go has there been a list posted yet of the teams that have not submitted a file?
And, wouldn't that take 2 stage files Pyser? The first stage file would be to get your team down to 53 players. The second stage file would then be to pickup those players. So, you would have a stage file for Preeseason week 5, then a stage file to get down to 53, then another stage file to pickup those players who were just released, finally followed by the stage file for game 1.
