View Full Version : FOFC NFL Mock Draft
albionmoonlight
03-22-2004, 12:12 PM
I got this idea from another board. Instead of an "everyone pick a team" mock draft that will peter out after the first five picks, I suggest a full board mock draft. Everyone participates.
Starting with San Diego, any poster can post their guess for whom the team will/should draft. After a player is posted three times, he becomes the draft choice for that team. I think that that's self explanatory, but just as an example:
Poster A: San Diego--Mike Williams
Poster B: San Diego--Eli Manning
Poster C: San Diego--Eli Manning
Poster D: San Diego--Larry Fitzgerald
Poster E: San Diego--Eli Manning
Eli Manning would be the pick, and the draft would move on to Oakland.
In order to keep this moving without me having to come back and edit the top post every few minutes, please--if you are the third person voting for a player--instead of just posting his name, cut and paste the current draft list with the picked player inserted. So, in the example above, Poster E would not just say Eli Manning. He would post the draft list with Eli Manning in the #1 spot.
The draft continues until people lose interest.
Oh--and you can vote as much as you want, but no more than once per draft spot, so you can't vote for a player three times by yourself.
This isn't "my game," so feel free to edit, make better, etc. A draft order list for the first round is below.

{misunderstood statement about Gallifrey's post removed}
#1 pick - Eli Manning (I do not think it will be San Diego, but I think it will be Manning).
EDIT: As far as making changes, I think the way people before the 3rd for a player is made should be changed, since many people will be envisioning trade changes naming the team is not the best method IMO. Perhaps people should put the # of the slot they are voting for, and the person who makes the definitive pick should post the whole list, with the appropriate player in the current slot.

There is no reason for Cleveland to draft WR at #7 when there are other major problems on the team. It looks like this draft is basically just ranking players.

Udeze certainly makes a bit more sense than Smith... but i think it's risky going DE so high with a 3-4 defense. It's easier to move out a quick DT than it is to make a 4-3 DE play end in the NFL (IMHO).

FYI, They are currently trying to trade Northcutt - so maybe it isn't entirely out of the question that they'd take Williams if he was there.
I guess it isn't out of the question, but more likely they would chose a player for there more immediate needs. And Winslow fits the mold.

The Seahawks really need interior D-linemen and inside Linebackers. With Harris, Wilfork and Starks off the board, I think they'd rather pick a DT in another round rather than reach. Jonathan Vilma is a definite possibility here, but I think Holmgren might pass on him due to his size and go with Teddy Lehman and convert him to a MLB.

I am not Noop but P.K. did not make a mistake. He wouldn't have improved with Chris Rix still running the offense. I can name you countless times P.K. or any other reciever was open and Chris just chose to throw to Cro for the long pass instead of the under routes. Also he has Lorne Same, Chris Davis, Decody Fagg, D-Rob and a few freshman chopping at the bit for playing time. So he did not make a wrong choice at all... Also he is 6'3 runs 4.5 and is has a hugh upside in a few years he will be one of the best in this draft.

Even if he would be the exact same player next year, he'd be in a weaker WR class - therfore moving himself up signficantly. This might be the deepest WR class ever, it was almost certainly a mistake to come out early.

The thing is he wouldn't have improved much by staying at Florida State. He would still be in the same boat as he is in this year. I would assume he figured I rather get paid now and learn to play the pro game since, playing at Florida State he won't get much PT.

You misunderstand me. If he were anything more than a fringe type NFL reciever, those youngsters would not see the field. He's not as big, not as fast, as SU's Johnnie Morant, and Morant will be a third rounder, and never make an impact in the NFL. So what your saying is he can not play? That is a foolish statement if I ever heard one. He can not possible be like Morant who is the most talented reciever on his team. The are more then just one guy at Florida State with talent not just PK. If he played for SU he would put up the same if not better number then Morant.

Morant ran a 4.40 at SU's pro day. He is bigger, and faster, than Sam. Morant still can't play - at least not to NFL caliber. I was using Morant as an example of someone who was big and fast yet did not possess the football instincts to be a great football player. You are right - he is very similar to Sam.
Sam is a good college player - as good or better than Morant. Neither will ever make an appreciable impact in the NFL.
I was just taking issue with the idea that Sam made a smart decision going to the NFL this year because he would not play much in college, but could star in the NFL. That is a ridiculous statement. Guys who will be NFL stars play full time - even at FSU.
