**** VOTING NOW CLOSED ON QUARTERBACK ****

The NFL has an all-decade team. The NBA has an "official" list of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History. If there's enough interest, I thought we could create the FOFC All-Time NFL Team since football is what brought most people to this forum to begin with.

It works like this, I post a poll for each position, and classify players by their positions. Generally, all players will be listed by a position, not which side they play on or if they're strong side. FOFC voters pick enough players to fill a regular team. At the bottom of this opening statement, I'll list all previous results and you will be able to see names and player pictures as the team is built. If you do not agree with the nominees in the all-time position vote, please feel free to write-in your candidate. Some suggestions for other players are at the bottom of this thread.

FOFC selects:

3 Quarterbacks
4 Running backs
3 Tight Ends
5 Wide Receivers
4 Offensive Tackles
4 Offensive Guards
2 Centers
4 Defensive Ends
4 Defensive Tackles
5 Linebackers
4 Safeties
5 Cornerbacks
1 Kicker and Punter

Have a webpage set up now for the final team results.Click here for the FOFC All-Time NFL Team Page. (http://home.cfl.rr.com/wfldynasty/FOFCalltimeteam.htm)

If I make any mistakes on the stats, let me know. Thanks.

Slingin Sammy Baugh! was my "other". Revolutionized the quarterback position and came from a fine university. :)

You're really doing Graham a major disservce with that writeup. His record as starter was absolutely insane, his team made the title game EVERY year he played, and his YPA is still among the highest ever.

edit: removed an incorrect fact

Feel free to spread the word about someone you think should be nominated because I won't be able to write much about the players in the interest of saving time. :)

I'm sorry if that sounded like an attack, I didn't mean to in any way, honestly.

It didn't sound like an attack at all. I understand the feeling that a player isn't getting his proper respect. Besides the facts you listed, it would be great if you could promote your player. With any all-time list, the older players always run the risk of being left out because not enough people saw them play or know about them.

Darkiller, you make me sad with that statement :(

I guess that's how I feel about Steve Young though. For the first few years he was really good, I hated him. HATED him. He took over for Montana, and Montana still had some gas in the tank (see: almost taking Kansas City to the superbowl). I've grudgingly learned to like him...but it's taken a while.

Let's just be truely happy to have had back-to-back Hall of Fame Quarterbacks for our great franchise.
It's something unheard of anywhere else so we can be really proud to have had Joe Montana and then Steve Young quarterbacking the team for 20 straight years.

Montana is still better than Young, even though I'm a Young fan.

you should read some book by Tim Green, Chapter 8 : "Why Steve Young is a better QB than Joe Montana".

pretty insightful stuff from a guy from within

No, I'd rather look at the most important stat of all
Young: 1 Superbowl
Montana: 4 Superbowls

Football is a team sport, remember ? you're not going to do it all by yourself.
Is Marino not worthy because he did not win the Superbowl ?
how about Elway, who waited 14 years to win until he finally got the running game he had been missing his whole career ?

One sentence from Hall of Famer Sammy Baugh :
"If I were to start a franchise from scratch, I'd take Young over Montana in their prime because Steve Young can do things with his feet as well"

Voting is over for quarterbacks. I'll probably either make a separate thread or design a page at my FOF Dynasty site to display the team as it grows. I'll have a link for that in the next position polls.

Warren Moon 1
Steve Grogan 1
Joe Namath 1
Phil Simms 1

Vote placing:
1st - Joe Montana
2nd - Dan Marino
3rd - Johnny Unitas
4th - John Elway
5th - Brett Favre, Otto Graham
7th - Roger Staubach
8th - Steve Young
9th - Terry Bradshaw
10th - Sammy Baugh
11th - Frank Tarkenton
12th - Dan Fouts
13th - Warren Moon, Joe Namath, Phil Simms, Steve Grogan

You have to go for the W. A team player would rather see his team put one in the win column than set an individual record.

And, that means John Elway goes down as the greatest of all time.
