I walked in this morning and heard about what you guys pulled. Do the words "software piracy" mean anything to you? You're hacking around our site typing URL's until you happened to find the test download site? What, are you logged on 24/7 trying to find the software?

This is ridiculous. After all I've done for you, to find out that you're trying to steal the game, and that you won't uninstall?? The game's NOT out. Don't you think after all this we would have told you it was ready for purchase?? Do you have that little regard for Barry and EA?

I hope you're proud of your achievements, because this may mean that we can NEVER release the game. This type of thing, if word gets around, is known as a Deal-Breaker with people like the NFL.

And don't tell me this is a victory against big bad EA or that you're sticking it to the man. That's a bunch of BS. I don't even want to hear about how long you had to wait or how important it is to you - this is the kind of thing that we won't put up with.

I was late, so I did not get the game, but when I came to the site Tony had put up a announcement saying the game was out, I tried to click on the link, but all I got was the box that asked for name and password. I had assumed that you guys(EA) had told him to spread the word. I really hope that the game comes out soon and the guys that did get it, will uninstall to help out the rest of us.

I have had to wait a really long time. This is REALLY important to me.

Honestly - what did you expect? You have a loyal community of computer-savvy gamers here that are slobbering for the release of FOF 2K1 - setting up a non-protected beta-test site is just asking for trouble. Don't for one second direct anger at this community - we are the ones that keep that game afloat - even when we get strung along with regards to release dates and the like...

Dan, I know where you're coming from, esp. as one who has spoken very adamantly against piracy. In no way did I attempt to pirate the game. I had put in my credit card and EA confirmed that it was accepted and then I proceeded to DL, but was not able to. I'm sorry that such actions were unauthorized, it was an honest mistake.

Dan - I'm emailing you.

10-25-2000, 12:49 PM
Dan,

I'd watch the accusations if I were you. I don't think that people who were PURCHASING the game were attempting to pirate anything.

It was an honest mistake. You guys had a live link to a download site. Work on your security. You have a lot of nerve.

Who said they won't uninstall?

Who's hacking into anything?

You have done nothing "for me". Work on your site security, jerk, before you come over here all high and mighty.

Dear Dan,

I can't believe what's happening here, too!
For months, everybody posting regularly at the forum says the would even pay $100 to get the game. Also, for months and months we all have been against piracy here (you know that).
I'm really amazed about the situation, especially after what you did to help a lot of us (including me.)
Right now, I don't know who are right and who are wrong...

GREAT find, SkyDog.I'm confused as to where it was. It appears that there's an entirely different archive than the one we see at the bottom, one with a number of posts from 2000 and 2001, although there's a giant gap where the conversion from UBB screwed up. Even with my One True Dark Jedi powers, I can't post in this "other" Archive, but when I search, I can see threads in it, so I moved these two. I'm going to snoop around the admin control panel to see if I can make that archive viewable.

So ... whatever happened to this asshat?

Google turns up references to what I assume his work on various EA products back in the late 90's but the most common reference to a "Dan Wasson" is to some sort of network security guru. I'm thinking that's got to be a coincidence & can't be the same guy.

If memory servers me, this was the version that EA marketed. It was suppose to go live and someone on the board found the link. The funny thing, you had to pay for it before you could download it. It really confused us on why we were being called pirates.

Chubby
10-07-2006, 11:18 AM
Everyone found the link, it was well known at the time. All you had to do was goof around with the URL a little and you found the dummy page.

Then when they uploaded the test version and changed the dummy page to a download page eveyrone swamped them with downloads :)

I lied.

Sorry Dan, but you have failed to apologize to the people you called "pirates." They did nothing wrong. They saw that the game was available, wanted to buy it, and gave their CC#, expecting to be charged. YOUR guys screwed up, and should be blamed--not those 10 who bought the game.

The fact is, I would rather give $100 of my hard-earned money directly to Jim for the game, than pay $1 for it through you guys if it meant you got a piece of it.

Yet another reason I will never buy an EA product again, unless it has a Solecismic logo on it.
