Getting to the Cardinals - Brewers game tonight thanks to our fearless leader throwing out the first pitch.

Not that I'm mad about that, but parking is going to be terrible as well as getting into the game. I think we're leaving at around 10am just to get to a 3pm game.

GO CARDS!

They probably counted on the draw (Bush) vs. anti-draw (Brewers) balancing it all out.

Have fun! I'm jealous. I'm too far away from a major league city to get to see even one game a year, let alone opening day.

the Cards should have a fantastic opening series. i.e. the brewers are a joke. I hope even half the prospects pan out otherwise we are doomed for 20 more years of mediocrity.

Have fun at the game!

Bush is a draw? Is Missouri full of rednecks?

He IS the President...although I never said which kind of a draw he'd be!

:)

You guys crack me up. We don't need a president for a big draw. Don't you know we are the BEST fans in baseball? :D

I've heard a lot of local grumblings about how political this visit is, blah blah blah. Well, of COURSE it's political - Missouri is viewed as a swing state in the presidential race - but I still think it's not a bad thing for a city/team to have the President of the United States throwing out the first pitch on Opening Day. It draws attention to the city, its fans, and its team.

Go Cards!

I was driving through Baltimore last night and seriously thought about stopping and getting a ticket for the Red Sox/Orioles. In retrospect I'm glad I kept driving, although it's nice to know it's only about an hour away if I want to go.

I think it may have something to do with the fact that DeWitt is one of the largest contributors to Bush's campaign. You don't see him throwing out the first pitch in Hollywood, do you?

I am in agreement with Mizzourah that this doesn't bother me in the least from a personal political aspect. But as far as a PR move for the Cardinals, it seems like you would be aleinating at least half of your fan base. Especially if his motercade is going to shut down highway 70 for over an hour.

If he stops his motorcade on highway 70 to get a haircut, then you might have a story...

Actually they have to shut down traffic completly both ways for reasons which I completely understand. But if you are familiar with Saint Louis there are three highways that merge downtown and before even normal Cardinal games they are gridlocked. Well shut one of the highways down and you can do the math...

They should just parachute him into the stadium with that stupid-ass Mike Meyers' rip-off piece of gum as his bodyguard.

While we're posting conspiracy theories:

During the last Presidency and election season, every time Clinton or Gore came to town, they flew into RDU or out of RDU right around rush hour, shutting down I-40 during it's peak hours. At least when Bush or Cheney come to town, they manage to avoid getting I-40 shut down at rush hour (usually around lunch time or early afternoon).

Ahhhh... we got there at 11:30, a full 2.5 hrs before the start of the game and still barely made it in before Bush threw his pitch. We missed the Cardinal player introduction motorcade completely. Oh well, it was fun for my daughter who got to see the President in person, then see LaRussa do his usual keeping a pitcher in too long.

Another season is upon us!

I am guessing there must be a typo in your posted time. The game started at 3:10. So I am guessing you meant 12:30. And if that is the case what line were you standing in? We got to the stadium at 12:30 and we were in the bleachers watching the Brewers take a batting practice at 12:45. We had no problem finding a parking space and the traffic wasn't bad coming into or out of the stadium after the game.

I heard a lot of people were having problems getting in after 1:30, but if you got there by 12:30 or before I am shocked it took you so long to get in.

Yes, there was a typo. We got there at 11:30, but parked at Harry's, drank a beer or two and then rode the trolley to the stadium. So, in essence, we didn't get in line until 12:30. :)

Sorry...
