Heres the situation. In the WigFL (http://www.wigfl.com) my team is out of it. We are playing next week for Pride. The Browns have a rookie rusher who is less than 50 yards away from 2000. I dont have the best run defense(basically why we've been SOOOO bad all year). IF I run 100's across the board in expecting Run(all situations), and Goal Line at 100%, can I expect to at least dent the running game? Im asssuming I should turn the run blitzes way up, and the pass blitz's to non-existance. Anyone have any ideas?

Be careful with "Aggressive Run Defense". You'll stuff him a lot, but it increases the chance that Flaherty will rip off a 50-yard run on just one shot.

Go 100% on all run situations. I don't know if you need Goal Line that high (does goal line do well on outside runs?), but definitely turn off nickel and dime in all cases. I can't recommend 4-3 vs 3-4 as I've had some really good 3-4 run defenses with the right nose tackle.

And it helps if you break Flaherty's leg in the first 5 minutes of the game...

I think badbrown's head would explode if this happened...

Don't foget to change your offensive gamplan to majority run...it keeps the clock moving...

I really would rather prefer that his RB tears an ACL.

Begging for help to stop my rookie?! Pathetic.

Steve, you really don't get it, Flaherty is unstoppable!

Okay. Now I'm rooting for the ACL injury too.

Definitely max out your own running, and if you must pass, make them short passes to help assure completions that keep the clock running.

If your only goal is to stop this guy:

1. Set run expectation this way:

100-100-100-100
100-100-100-x
100-100-x-x
100-x-x-x

2. Set aggressive run defense to 100.
3. Set aggressive pass defense to 0 - (that way you aren't caught overplaying a pass if he sneaks a run in on you).
4. Set goalline to 50 and nickel and dime to 0.
5. Set blitz and blitz multiples to 0.
6. Vary your offensive formations, but make sure you have at least a good run blocking TE and FB on every play (so stay away from Single Back and the 3WR Strong).
7. Run about 65% to 75% of the time...throw only the distance that your QB is best at...

Good luck.

If you were smart, fba4life, you'd throw bombs on his ass now.

This reminds me of chess.

You really do need to run this game live... Im itching to see this game, played out... tommorow can't come fast enough for me.

But you know what's funniest? We got guys who aren't even in the league, rooting for my guy to break his leg. Classic.

If you want to watch the game played out, then before checking out the site, download the league file, extract it, and then run 3ric's viewer (see the all-encompassing reference thread for link) to watch the game unfold.

I'm rooting for an ACL tear. Those are more damaging to a career.

He's more worried about getting his 2000 yards than getting the win, and the 1st round bye.

I'm rooting for a ruptured achilles tendon - guys just never recover from those.

fba4life,

Good luck to ya, 2000 is a great landmark to have for your running back. Don't forget to make sure he is maxed out a 9 on playing time. Break a leg!

Thanks Dutch, nice to hear someone is rooting for the 'rook.

As for your suggestion, that was done in week 1. :)

Hmmm, that did come off wrong. I wonder if it was some lame attempt on my part to be funny....nah, couldn't have been.

I figured with all my own competator's here giving the other guy some good sound advice, I figured I give you some, I couldn't think of any, but I wanted to. My YPC is 3.76 or something....so you wouldn't want my advice. :D

In 12 hours or so, I will know if all the advice (Steve got) helped or not.

Regardless, it has added some spark to the game.

That leads to an interesting question - you say your RB is maxed at 9 - what is his endurance rating?

scarface132
04-06-2004, 10:11 PM
Steve, that's not my nickname and I don't look a thing like the guy. He is an albino, I am nowhere near close to that.

scarface132
04-06-2004, 10:15 PM
His endurance according to my scout is 70/82. It isn't like the guy has taken every Brown running play this season. One backup has 66 carries and another has 41 carries this season.

Somehow he still managed 140 yards. But I won, and that is all that is important.
