View Full Version : The Best Month for U.S. Sports?

April. Yes, this month. I reckon it has to be the greatest month of the year for sports fans. Granted I'm a little biased towards certain sporting events (see: NHL playoffs), but I think April has a little bit for everyone.
In no partciluar order (other than the first being the best, of course. :D )
1. NHL play-offs
2. Baseball season opens (especially when the Tigers start 3-0!)
3. NBA play-offs
4. The end of the NCAA tournament. (It's usually in April)
5. The Masters (I don't watch golf or follow golf, or really consider it a sport. I don't even know if the Masters take place in April every year, but I do know it's considered a "right of Spring" or some such nonsense, so I assume it's in April. Regardless, it's in April this year, so it's in.)
6. NFL Draft (as a Lions fan, this has been our "Superbowl" for many, many, many years)
The only thing April lacks, and it is a serious deficiency, is actual football, both college and pro. We have the draft, which certainly helps, but it's just not the same. Still, it's a great month of sport.

Well, if you're near a college campus, you have spring camp for football, and usually a spring game during April as well.
If only the AFL or NFLE were covered more. I miss football on my weekends...

I'd opt for March -- you've got NCAA basketball tournament play, both conference & national level, you've got spring training when nobody has been eliminated from contention, you've got the early weeks of NASCAR, you got the race for playoff positioning in the NHL, you've got college baseball, and there's the NBA for those who are so inclined.
What cthomer5000 said, although I'll throw NFL in front of football so it's clear I'm not talking NFL Europe. :)

October definetely. You can't beat the Fall classic combined with NFL regular season games. Nothing compares.

Add another vote for October. Throw in the weather (cool & crisp, leaves falling, etc.) for added fun.

Add in the men's and women's Table Tennis World Cup and October is unbeatable...
Alright, if I have to take one month, I'll take January. Playoff football, hopefully in the snow. Can't be beat.

October, the weekends are to die for.
Friday night you have MLB playoff's
Sat afternoon/evening college football and MLB playoff's
Sunday NFL games and Sunday night playoff's.
Since baseball and football are my two favorite sports by far, its heaven

I love college basketball, so I'm tempted to go with March on that alone, but the World Series and the NFL takes it for me, October.

Screw October. Stupid baseball interferes with football coverage.

Whiny single-sport people. Broaden your horizons a little or something.
And, Kodos, don't make me post more hockey stories ;)

April the best sports month???????? Not when there is still NHL and the, ugh, NBA still going on. September is best because October you are getting too close to NBA and NHL.

I would have to rate April and October pretty close together, especially in Detroit right now, April is great: Wings in playoffs, Pistons peaking, Tigers winning, and Lions drafting. I was just talking about this with a friend last night, this could end up possibly being the greatest two months in Detroit sports history, if everything were to fall into place.
October is great though, what with all the sports going on. March is a solid third for March Madness.
