No Europe this year

My friend and I were hoping to travel to Europe this year. But we scraped our plans a few months ago considering that Euro is at an higher value than the US dollar. I know a few friends of mine aren't going to Europe for the same reason. Even though the Euro isn't incredibly more valuable than the US dollar I imagine that many Americans will think twice about going to Europe because of value of the dollar as opposed to the Euro and the tension between many Euro's and Americans because of the disagreements of our foriegn policy. My friend and I joked that when we visit France we could just get shirts that say "Fuck Bush" in French and people would probably give us free wine.
Hopefully, when the economy rebounds the US dollar will rise in value and I'll be able to party in Barcelona and relax on the beaches in Italy.

Well, as I sit here in Europe, getting paid in Euros I'm not really going to complain all that much. Hopefully the Euro will stay strong and when I go back home I'll actually make a bit of profit when I change my Euros into dollars.

I had a similar experience this weekend though. I was in London for the weekend and was just floored by how expensive everything was. If you converted pounds to dollars things were still on the pricey side, but when you taken into account that a pound is about 1.8 dollars, things became outrageously expensive if not down right unaffordable. So, it's not a bad plan to reschedule when things are more in your favor. Many European companies are getting crushed because so many are exporters and rely on profits made in the states.

I've been in Europe for 2 years now. The US-Euro relationship is definitely at a low point and every once in a while you get into some anti-US talk (usually from cab drivers), but for the most part it's non-existant and it's not like I blend.

If Kerry is elected and does what he seems to say regarding the US' foreign policy, tensions will be swept away rapidly I think.
It's true the situation is perhaps at an all-time low point right now, but Bush has to be one of the all-time low presidents as well no ?

Well...its not stopping us. We'll be in Brussels (along with Ghent, Bruges, and Antwerp) next month. It is a little more expensive this year than most, but we'll just have to live with it.

The decline of the dollar internationally will make foreign outsourcing of U.S. labor less attractive in the future if it persists. Just a random thought I had.
