Just letting everyone know that it's Boston vs Toronto right now, and Halladay vs Pedro... could be a good pitching game. ;)

Halladay, on the other hand, is making too many mistakes. That's 6 HR in his first two starts I think...

You can't stop Bellhorn, you can't even hope to contain him.

Martinez seems to do this every year. When there is any question of him he pitches lousy(though 3 earned runs in actuality isn't bad, only in Boston), then he goes on to pitch incredible for the rest of the year.
Despite his record, last year was an incredible year for him. If he wasn't such a whiney bitch he would get more support from the public.
That being said, now that the Sox have Schilling, i'm thiking the safer bet is to sign a contract with Lowe, not Martinez. I get the feeling Pedro wants a contract that's going to outlast his abilities.

it was only 2 earned runs in his first start btw
Lowe's agent is Bora$ so he's probably going to be asking for 9-11 million a year. Is Lowe worth that? Maybe. Pedro already said he understands he'll have to take a paycut from the 17 million he's making this year. The questin is, is Pedro worth 4 or 5 million more than Lowe?
Pedro is the best pitcher in baseball by a huge margin. Before he was hurt, he was putting up an ERA+ of 245-285. Amazing numbers. Since being hurt he's only putting up 189-212 which is quite a dropoff, but still makes him far and away the best pitcher in the game. Halladay has put up 145 or so the last 3 years and Zito is 143 for his career. So IF Pedro does get hurt again and it effects his pitching numbers he'd ONLY be putting up Zito/Halladay numbers
That's why they should and will sign him to a new deal. Their big concern is he gets hurt and misses half a season and only comes back as good as Zito. I'd feel pretty good throwing some cash at him.
The ideas and numbers in this post were yoinked from Eric Van over at SOSH

dola
as for Pedro being a "whiney bitch" a good portion of that is fabricated by the Boston media

Nah, i was thinking that before the media started portraying it. Back in his first and second year with Boston, he was just amazing on the field so i didn't much care, still don't. Maybe he's just not good at handling the baseball enviroment in Boston. The guy came from Montreal from christ sake.
"So IF Pedro does get hurt again and it effects his pitching numbers he'd ONLY be putting up Zito/Halladay numbers"
Problem is, its a big if, with a ton of money on the line, and the effects could be more permanent(without Zito numbers). He's not getting younger.

They will resign Pedro because you know where he'll end up if they don't.
