View Full Version : Umm...where's my hard drive?

I just got to ask this question of myself.
Tomorrow I will be asking it of the guy who put my computer together. He said he would put my old drive in as the slave drive when I took in various computer parts to be put in the new computer. Having gotten my computer back today, I just went searching for my drive (not my new one, but the old one). I thought at first that they just didn't hook it up right, and that's why it's not showing up.
So I crack the case and take a look inside. Yup, you got it. Not even in there.
makes me wonder what they are doing with my old drive. Hopefully, they just forgot and they still have it hanging around somewhere. :(
I have a lot of programs installed on that drive I need to keep.

GE: New specs are AMD Athlon XP 3000 (up from 1600) with an ABIT AN7 MB and 1 GB of DDR RAM. A new 40-GB HDD as well in an Antec Sonata tower. Everything else is the same, more or less. I brought in my old video card, sound card, floppy drive and DVD-ROM to be put in the new computer. And my old hard drive, too. ;)
Franklinnoble: I could say, but I actually don't want to give these guys a bad name just yet (give them a chance). My guess is it was simply forgotten, since it was not critical to the operating system (since I had a new hard drive and Windows install). My fear is there were problems with my hard drive being the slave drive for some reason, but the sales rep who got me my computer didn't notice a message from tech support about the problem.
The reason why I don't want to throw a name out yet is because this company has been good to me up until now. I got my last computer from them (the one being upgraded now), and everything worked perfectly. And when I came in with all this stuff to add, they were very helpful in advising me on what choices I needed to make to keep everything compatible and went out of their way to help me track down my old Windows key (which somehow disappeared from the case of my computer eons ago).
So I figure I owe them a chance to make things right before I start trashing them. :)

Little tip: External Hard Drive
You'll never have this problem (though they are more expensive than internal drives)

Dude, get a dell. (They are the easiest computers to work on and they actually work as they are supposed to...)

Ummm... they (gave it to the FBI) dropped in the trash by accident.

I think an external hard drive is the problem here :)
And its really cheap if you DIY.

Although I really do feel for CR (he's experiencing one of my worst fears & the main reason I don't have some things done to my primary machine) ... that really made me LOL.

This would be one of the more elaborate attempts at getting extra license keys out of Viatech...
