View Full Version : giving games their own forums

With the release of OOTP6, the *General Discussion* forum is understandably inundated with OOTP6 threads. Would it make sense to have a different forum for each major game (TPF, OOTP, CM, Etc) listed under the Non Fof Discussion section on the main page?

It would be nice to have all our threads for these games under their own category. I avoid having to go to the respective forums at all costs and would much rather read/contribute to our own mini-forums for each game.

just my .0199976 cents.

we've had this discussion many times before. If we moved all the games to separate threads, all the General Discussion forum would be is Kodos polls & colossal XXX sightings.

Then lets reintroduce Hattrick here.

I'm all for that.

the thing with hattrick is that it is ongoing/neverending. Its as if the game is itself a multiplayer league. It would be like introducing the IHOF into the general forum instead of it getting its own forum.

FWIW, I think that's a pretty good way of looking at it/determining what gets separated & what doesn't.

As a general rule, I've always leaned toward separate folders, etc. for different topics but I've just about reached the conclusion that, at least as far as FOFC is concerned, the non-FOF game threads do tend to run their course reasonably quickly. That's what puts me pretty much in the same camp as you on this one.

the hattrick forum has introduced more new people to all these other sports text sims. I get a couple PM's a week from new members asking about other sports sims. It's the 3rd most posted in forum, no need to move it.

I think people forget when it didn't have it's own forum and people in here and the Dynasty forums were saying "What's up with all these hattrick threads?"

Well.....as a mostly-Hattricker and new CM addict, I can say that having separate forums for some of these games (CM, HT, ok, I really don't know any of the other games... :D) might be useful. When I was looking for stuff on CM, people keep mentioning that there are "other threads" here in the General Forum, but there are so many threads of so many types and so much is repeated that it's pointless to search through the threads and find the instances where CM is discussed.......having a centralized forum for each game solves a lot of that problem.

And leaves the general forum for stuff like that poor Nigerian astronaut, still stuck up in space. :D :D :D

But ya, I agree with Easy on this one. Maybe a forum for other game information (OOTP, FBCB etc...) would be okay, because sometimes it does clutter up the main forum. Of course I don't think each game should get their own seperate forum though...

Maybe divide it by sports not game such as a football forum for fof and tpf, basketball for fbcb, tdcb, and tbb, etc.

Yes, we've had this discussion many times before. I am *VERY* resistant of having more forums. I believe that one of the things that makes this board what it is is that virtually anything goes in the main forum. Unless there's a compelling reason to open a new forum (like Hattrick cluttering the main forum for several weeks), it isn't going to happen. The most important threads about other games can be easily found, because I try to link them in the sticky reference thread. There are links for everything from TPF Mods to FBCB Strategy to info about releases and patches of various text sims.

I think a new forum for OOTP would just invite non-FOF players to the boards. Not sure that's a good thing. I like how it is now. .02

I would agree with 'no' as well. I always for get there's a game impressions forum. :)

i think in general the "hattrick model" should be used. Unless something proves to be ever-present and never-ending... there's no need to give it it's own forum.

So should we have a new forum for Kodos Polls and Collossal XXX sightings?

Maybe, but definitely one for joke/take-off topics. :)

I think we should consolidate down to one forum and name it Bertha.

My main point was that I hate going to the other forums (ootp, 400stud, etc) and tracking the many sporadic threads on games here is a PETA (:D). I would much rather only read the OOTP threads (for e.g.) here and have one place to shop.

I know this has been brought up many times before (many by me, i'm sure) and the same crop of folks tows the party line.

Persistence is futile. You will be ignore-ilated.

And that just begs for "So Subby likes his forums like X likes his women". Anyone have a name to insert for X?

See, I hate that there are so many forums to search through at the OOTP board. I much prefer having nearly everything in one place...

Maybe there should be a separate forum for parody threads? It could be like bizarro-FOFC.

Having people talk about OOTP in the main forum introduces people to new games. If there were boards for OOTP, EHM, CM, etc I would possibly never have found out about them or played them. The posts here tend to pique my interest.
