Is there a way to do a one-time raise of the salary cap, without it rising the same amount in every season? Say after my first season, I wanted to raise it from 75 to 80, but following that I wanted to keep it the same.. is there a way to do that? Or is it only possible for it to keep rising each season?

Nope, no way to do that...

Erik:

Welcome! You can change the range of the potential cap raise so that it raises the exact amount you want, (like say 50 to 50), and then after that, just set it to 0/0. However, keep in mind that it will raise for x number of years of the new contract, and I don't think the number of years is controllable.

Welcome to the boards Erik. Here's some handy advice to help you get started if you choose to stay.

Don't mention trout around Fritz. Don't mention mushrooms around WSU Cougar. And for god sakes whatever you do, don't start a thread with the words "how long to call" in it.

Shalom. :D

Has anyone successfully played without raising the cap? I've tried but found the game unplayable after a few years (as all players want higher salaries in later years of their contract). I'd like to continue to play with modern day salaries and just find they quickly become too high (purely a matter of taste).

WigFL uses no inflation.

There have been no problems yet, but we're just finishing up the 2nd offseason.

I think the fact that it's a multiplayer league helps, as the owners know that flat contracts are the way to go - the computer doesn't seem to make that adjustment under these conditions.

Since so many people were making this claim, I started my main FOF 2004 solo career without any inflation, just to see how it would work out.

After 20+ seasons, I don't report any particularl or obvious problems. I suspect there is a subtle issue - that some (many?) CPU-team contracts are built with escalation in them, that might be more appropriate for a escalating-cap environment. But really now, whether the cap increases 5% a year just doesn't seem like it's a cataclysmic change in the thought process. (We primarily escalate contracts not because the cap is increaeing, but because it's easier to pay later than now - of course)

I think the game works just fine with inflation set to 0/0.

thanks guys.. my next question is, do the players demand more money when the salary cap rises by a large amount? Example- would the same player request more money if the salary cap was at 100 million than he would when it was at 75 million? I guess im asking if salaries get inflated by the same amount.

Salary requests are dependant on the salary cap. Think of it as an equation. A player will ask for x% of y.

Perhaps a better reference when approximating the value of contracts is the minimum salary (which is, of course, a function of the salary cap - just gives more managable numbers).

I guess my main concern is that the built-in escalation in contracts requested from players is somehow based on the the escalation in salary cap. If that's the case, I think the AI will be at a much greater disadvantage than the player. Admittedly, I haven't done a study on such a thing, but I was wondering if you've noticed a) even more turnover in AI managed rosters than the typical FOF league and b) even greater success for the player-controlled team than normal.

Thanks...
