I'm so glad this guy has his education to fall back on if he doesn't make it with the Giants:

There's a very strong chance it is real. My girlfriend had to do a web page for a class in college, and it was nearly as bad as that.
edit: and I just looked up her old webpage (which is surprisingly still there)... holy christ is it bad. Makes we want to gouge my eyes out.

Good Ole Elisha Manning... at least the Charger fans have a new nickname for him.

I was blown away when I found out that was his actual name. I guess I'm just not up on names, but is Eli typically short for Elisha (or short for something else)?

Yep, definitely real. You should see the webpage I had to make for my intro to comp sci class my freshman year.
It had a graphic, a table, and a link or two. High tech stuff!

I thought it was usually short for Elias. But I can hear it now...
My daddy left home when I was three
And he didn't leave much to ma and me
Just this old guitar and an empty bottle of booze.
Now, I don't blame him cause he run and hid
But the meanest thing that he ever did
Was before he left, he went and named me... "Elisha."

Huh. Whaddyaknow? According to SSA.gov, Elisha is the 606th most popular name for boyos, ranking just ahead of Darien, Donte, Jett, Brice, Titus, Elvis and Jairo. It even comes ahead of Junior, Grady, Lincoln, Glenn, Ralph, Kareem and Kurt. Amazingly, it's not among the top 1000 names for girls.
And how can Bo come in at 994th? Good grief, Zack if only 985. Screetch did not make the list.
Oddly, No. 635 for boys is River. No. 636 is Phoenix. Spooky.

That was probably part of some project for a class. I've found pages like that made by college hockey players many times. Often, they sit around on the school's servers for a year or two after they've moved on into the pro leagues.

Does it occur to anyone else here that FOFC is about the only place where Manning's website can truly be appreciated for its comedic value? Where else are you going to find a unique blend of computer geeks who also happen to be die-hard football fans? I'm trying to think of other people I could show this to, and I honestly don't know anyone outside this forum that fits the bill...

This has gotten some pretty good mileage in emails to friends. But you're right, it takes the perfect blend of football fan and computer geek to truly appreciate this.

He expects to be at 300 by 2005. That is, indeed, a great rating.

Actually nachos is listed as one of the "Great Consessions" joining hot dogs, peanuts, popcorn soda and the oddly colored beer.

I can't wait until 2005, when Phillip Rivers has a passer rating of 300, and Eli Manning is still trying to figure out why he can't access espn.com.

I got word from my sources that Ole Miss has blocked the website. There is rampant speculation as to why exactly....
rkmsuf
05-04-2004, 02:28 PM
why there is a picture of Spock is a complete mystery. The mailto tags make it a close race with River's graph.
Passacaglia
05-04-2004, 02:32 PM
I think the mailto tags make it blow Rivers's graph out of the water. If it were just the Spock picture, that would make it a close race. Hey, is Eli a trekkie?
corbes
05-04-2004, 02:33 PM
The first time, I didn't realize that Spock was raising his eyebrow at me. The thing I love about Eli's page is that you can enjoy it on many different levels, specifically:
1) Hello there, Spock.
2) Hel-LO there, Spock. *wink wink*
