Well, I found out that I'm heading back to the US at the end of the month. My two year plus European adventure is drawing to a close.
I've got the new house in Austin that I'm moving into. It's my first house, but it's a doozy. :D The best part is that I'll get to keep my Silicon Valley salary, and get to work from home! There still will be a lot of travel involved, but nothing like what I've been doing. I haven't been lived in Texas since '97, and been away from Austin since '92.
I should be in Austin with all of my stuff from California around the 8th or 9th. If any Austin area FOFCers could help me unload the truck, pizza and beer will be made available. :) There definitely will be regular poker games organized as well!
I will miss Europe, but I'm looking forward to stopping this nomad lifestyle I've been leading. Time to start a new chapter. See y'all back on our side of the pond!

Welcome home, cartman!
Wish I could make it down there to give you a hand, but alas this is one of our busier weekends of the year. UNT graduation and Mother's Day both on the same weekend. Gonna be loads of fun...

What high school in Austin do you hail from, or are your Austin roots purely UT based?

Hey Jeeb, if you are working the evening of the 1st, that's when I'm flying into DFW.
Huck, I went to high school in Fort Worth, so yep, my Austin roots are purely UT based.

Oh...duh, the 8th and 9th of June. For some reason I was thinking you were talking about this weekend.
I'm not sure what my schedule will be that far in advance, but I'll be sure to let you know. And if I'm not working maybe we can just get together and have a beer. That would probably be more fun, anyways... :)

Cool. Yep, I'm flying from London to DFW on June 1st, then heading out the next day to go to California to pick up my stuff that has been gathering dust in a storage unit the past couple of years.
Beer is always good. It's been too long since I've had a Shiner Bock.

Hell yeah ! Brings a tear to my eye thinking back on all those Shiner I poured down my throat while in Texas... The best beer I drank in the US, that's fo sure...
I visited the brewery and all, I still have a t-shirt with a big bad-ass ram on the back. Ah, those were the days...

There's a place called Two Dagos from Texas that serves it in Seattle. I just had my first one about a month ago. It was very good.

I think I have that very t-shirt, fff... :)
Too bad that when I visited the brewery it was on a weekend and it was closed. I really wanted to sample some of their fine frosty beverages...

Shiner isn't very good anymore.
Sorry for the downer.

Jeeber -
How old are you? Seriously. I had Shiner back when these guys are talking about having it. Comparing the current version to then is a joke.

I'm 26, but I started drinking Shiner when I was 19. And while the current brew might not taste the same as it used to, it's still a damn fine beer...

Does Amy's still make Shiner Bock ice cream? Is Amy's even still around?
Huckleberry

Amy's is around and still kickin' ass.
Jeeber -
We're the same age but you got started 4 years late. ;) Shiner is not close to the quality it was in the early 90s. Still good, but it used to be incredible.

Damn having to go to high school in Colorado got me off to a late start on Shiner. Grrr...
On the other hand, I did start drinking Fat Tire before it went national... :)

The best part about the new house is that it's only 2 miles away from the Salt Lick. We spent some fun nights back in college with a pony keg of Shiner Bock, chowing down on the all-you-can-eat BBQ.
Man, that's making me hungry. English food hasn't sat too well with me the past few months. No Whataburgers or Taco Cabanas here.

I had Whataburger last night. Perhaps I'll have some more this weekend for you, cartman.
And if you're gonna live out in Driftwood, then poker games will be tough for me. That's 50 minutes with no traffic for me, and I'm lazy.

I was drinking homebrewed citrus coolers on SoCal beaches before anyone heard of Bartle and James.

It's much better to have grown up with the sand running between your toes and partying on a beach than having cow shit squeezing between your toes and sitting on a tailgate drinking cow piss in bottle and calling that a party.
JeeberD

Sorry, no cowshit in El Paso.
Actually, it's very much like the beach out in Far West Texas. You got the sun, you got the sand, the only thing you're missing is the water...
Oh, and Shiner is far from being cow piss. It's a nice dark, full bodied beer...

Shiner has a lite beer. 'Nuf said.
Welcome back, Cartman. Austin has changed, but maybe you will find it for the better.

Yep, I'm gonna be in Driftwood, at La Ventana. Got a steal on a bank repo.
I forgot about Austin traffic. It wasn't great when I was going to UT, but I imagine it's gotten a ton worse with all of the growth the past decade.
But that's what I like about where I'm gonna live. It's out in the hill country, but it's only a 30 minute drive back into Austin.

Interesting. From this sentence it seems to me that you probably have a lot more experience with cow shit between your toes than I do.
