Couple questions on this quote from the help file..

The Defensive Settings section determines specific behavior on defense, in comparison to the average coach in the league. Aggressive run or pass defense indicates that the defense is set to react to the run or pass as soon as the ball is snapped. If the defense is right, it will be much more effective. If it is wrong, a long gain could result. You can also set your team's tendency to blitz in comparison to most teams, and its tendency to send more than one blitzer when deciding to blitz. You control individual player blitzing tendencies on the Miscellaneous Game Plan Screen.

1. " The Defensive Settings section determines specific behavior on defense, in comparison to the average coach in the league."
What does this mean exactly? What is being used in the comparison? Is it a statistical total like how many blitzes on average are called league wide or is it using something in the coaches rating that we dont really see?

2. "Aggressive run or pass defense indicates that the defense is set to react to the run or pass as soon as the ball is snapped."
Say im expecting a run play 58% of the time on 1st down/8-10 ytg. Whats the point of setting 'Aggressive Run Defense' then? I guess this confuses me because the game seems to always recommend that Aggressive Run Defense be set to 100. Why would you ever want to set it at 100? Wouldnt you be setting yourself up for a big offensive gain if they call a pass? Especially if 42% of the time i could be calling a def pass play?

I feel like im making this more confusing than it really is. Can anyone enlighten me? http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/%7Efof/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif

It's kind of a difficult system, and I don't think anyone understands exactly how it works. But the idea is, if you have your blitz set to 50, you'll blitz about as often as the league average. I don't know how often that is, and I'm not sure if anyone else does. Setting this to 100 doesn't mean you'll blitz all the time, though. It just means you'll blitz way more than average. And 0 doesn't mean you'll never blitz -- just way less than average.

Also, I think that the "aggressive run defense" depends on the settings to the left of it. The way I thought it works is that the computer determines if you're playing a run or pass defense, then looks at the appropriate slider to see if it will be aggressive.

This comes from absolutely no research, but I just figure that's the most sensical explanation.
