I wanted to get a Geforce 5700FX type card and noticed it says it uses a 8X APG slot

I have a Dell 8300 and my APG slot is 4X... (It think it is called APG 2.0)

From looking on the internet, it looks like the card would work????

Can anyone tell me for sure if a 8X APG card will work in my 4X APG slot...

Thanks!!!

It'll work. 8x cards of that line also are backwards compatible with 4x. Just make sure your AGP is at least 4x, because most 8x will NOT go back to 2x.

I'll concur with everyone else, but you won't get the same speed, so you're paying a lot of money for something that won't run at full strength.

Actually, AGP 8x has yet to make any difference over 4x, mainly because current games don't send textures over the bus while rendering. In a couple of years we may see games using virtual memory for textures, and then bus speed will matter. This is also why PCI-Express won't mean a thing for games for a couple of years.

Actually, AGP 8x has yet to make any difference over 4x, mainly because current games don't send textures over the bus while rendering....because it's much slower than storing them in memory on the card itself, so it probably won't change until the performance of stashing textures in main memory is competitive.
