Finally picked this title up too, along with FarCry for my "RTS" fix. I've been a fan of WBC2 - don't know why. Something about it just kind of 'clicks' with me. In any case, Humans are divided into 2 sections. Knights, and Empire. I went ahead and played Knights. The first few levels seem to be a breeze to advance your Hero - it seems a bit more easy to manage around, in terms of what to advance. Standard 4 categories, Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Charisma...and then your option of a few select 'stats' to improve - such as Weaponsmasters, Regeneration, etc...
Of course, some stats won't be available for adjustment until a certain level has been acquired, etc...
As for units, things look the same. There's some new dragons in the game, and there's a new building along with new nuances. In this case, there's a 'Shrine' that you can now build - at least, with the race that I've chosen. Essentially, upgrades to the 'Shrine' result in improvements to your units' abilities. Attack, etc...
It's a bit difficult, but not overly so. I've only went through the first couple of levels, but took my time about it. The races are plenty, and the new layout of the map is an interesting take. Personally, it's looking like it's well worth the upgrade to the Battlecry series - even if it's just to advance the story from the game prior. I'm very biased, I suppose.
Not much of an impression, I'm sure...but it's a game that I can see myself playing for quite awhile. BTW - the 'Tinman' and 'Bronzeman' modes are out. Solely Ironman, or the standard fare. I haven't played multiplayer with it yet - the single campaign seems to be a lengthy and time consuming campaign for me to get through.
Diplomacy looks like your standard fare from WBC2, where you've got the option to trade gold for resources, etc...
In WBC2, if I recall correctly, you usually can begin a mission in territory that had 'sparkling lights' of sorts. Be it one side of a continent, or a few spaces away. In WBC3, however, the path opens up depending as to whether or not you've completed the mission within the area that you're presently in. When you go to a particular place on the map, you have the option of seeing what missions are available, and as to whether or not you want to partake in it. Finishing the mission usually results in (in addition to the Crowns) more paths that open up.
I think I've babbled enough, really. Random rants, of various things. Plus, my fingers are tired from typing (too much gaming today). If you're fond of WBC2, WBC3 should be right up your alley. My 2 cents, of course!
Is anyone still playing?
I was thinking of picking it up as a budget title

I am, actually!
I've always had a fondness for the Battlecry series. This is one game that I've been playing around with for the past couple of weeks. If you can get it at budget price, that'd be awesome. I picked it up for $39...seems it was the only copy my local EBgames had in stock.
Haven't run into any errors, or CTDs or the like. In fact, it's pretty challenging. With each particular area you're in, you've often the opportunity to either make enemies of other races, or allies of them. Your allied races, can thus be used in different scenarios, it seems.
For example:
If you're the Knights, and you've allied with the Empire - the next 'battle/mission' you partake in gives you the option to lead the Empire race, or your Knight race. Also, particular races seem better suited for different scenarios, in which case the Difficulty can range from Average to 'Easy'. I ran into one mission where I had to defend the mountain pass against a horde, and having chose the Knights, it was a bit difficult. Took me about 7 attempts before I passed the scenario - but not without losing 2 of my generals from my retinue. It seems easier to do so with Barbarians (which were easy to ally with, once your hero was strong enough to take on 4 heroes of the Barbarians in order to become an ally).
All in all, I'm enjoying the hell out of the game. Some folks might not, if they're not particularly fond of Battlecry 2.
