The simulation engine was created by just using a message board and about 4-5 threads per day.

Oh, and there also seems to be some sort of glitch that causes the "roll-eyes" smiley to show up every three posts.
I think we need a patch.

The only cure for this is a new game from Jim. EHM may help, and FM2005 might make noise here, but only a new title from Jim will give these guys so much to do that the politics can step aside.

Definitely. That is not realistic at all!

I had this happen to me. Turns out I typed in the security code incorrectly. Try typing it in again and let us know how it works out for you.

There is apparently a forum mod available that turns the roll eyes smiley into the following text: "I am too ignorant or lazy to come up with an intelligent response". Maybe this mod will suffice until the patch comes out:).

Oh, a workaround? They expect us to work around their bugs with MODS instead of putting the work into the actual release? What am I paying for then?

Does anybody know where I can download the real roster file ?
I mean, some of the names the game came up with are pretty unrealistic (joninmiddlega, flasch186) and just hurt the immersion factor...

There is apparently a forum mod available that turns the roll eyes smiley into the following text: "I am too ignorant or lazy to come up with an intelligent response". Maybe this mod will suffice until the patch comes out.In all seriousness... Are people here familiar with Godwin's Law?
"As a Usenet discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one. There is a tradition in many groups that, once this occurs, that thread is over, and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically lost whatever argument was in progress."
Can I suggest a modified version for FOFC?
"As an FOFC political discussion grows longer, the probability of someone using the "rolly-eyes" smiley approaches one. There is a tradition that, once this occurs, that thread is over, and whoever thought that rolling their eyes was a witty rejoinder has automatically lost whatever argument was in progress."
Seriously, can we please do this? It could both raise the level of discussion, and put an end to many of the dumb threads we have here every day.
SkyDog, make it happen!

... and put an end to many of the dumb threads we have here every day.
Y'know though ... if you check both views & posts, those "dumb threads" are among the most popular here and have been for quite a while now.
I play along in them probably half the time, sometimes in earnest, sometimes just 1-2 posts before I'm done with the subject, and sometimes not at all. But I've yet to have anybody hold a gun on me & make me participate, and I kinda doubt anybody is forcing anyone else to participate either.
Among active threads n the past 2 months, of the top 50 viewed threads:
8 are/became political or socio-political
6 were various games (tell the truth, mock draft, cartoon draft, etc)
6 were on other real-life sports (NHL, MLB, etc)
5 involved OOTP
2 were dynasties
and so on & so forth.
Of the 50, only three were related to FOF -- The new FOF extractor, the "what I hate about 2k4", and a TCY2 thread that started in June 2003.
And while the politics threads do become tedious at times, I don't find them any less "worthwhile" than cartoon drafts, the "superping-Jesus" thread, the sonq quote game or any of several others.
I'm usually a supporter of the notion of "on-topic" vs "off-topic" forum organization, but that's pretty much been shot down repeatedly at FOFC (and with pretty good reason IMO). So, there's pretty much a smorgasbord in the general discussion forum. And rather than bitchin' & moaning about the political threads, maybe it'd just make more sense to avoid 'em if they aren't your cup of tea.

I'm quoting the entire post above because I want to look really silly, as I am being somewhat silly with this response:
For the most part, all the political threads are the same, or at least they degenerate into the very same thing. I think they're viewed so damn much because some of us hope that the threads are as mature as everyone wants them to be, but they never are. It's like we keep checking up on the kids to see if they've grown up yet, but no. Still hasn't happened. :(

I think you must be using the third party "Ideologue" mod that forces all players to follow a strict set of rules and doesn't allow the AI to learn and change.
It does provide a pretty realistic microcosm of real life where centrists have been driven out of the political dialogue and the only ones left are extremists.
