Getting Comps in Vegas

I've been to Vegas twice and Atlantic City once and have yet to get comped for anything. I didn't have a lot of cash when I went to the casinos but I did play blackjack, craps and slots. Like I said I wasn't playing for $50.00 a hand or anything but I heard you can still get comps even playing for little money. I got the "reward" cards in the casinos I was playing in but still never got comped. Now I'm going to Vegas in July for 5 days and I'm going to have a little more money to gamble with. What are the best ways to get comped? I'm staying at the Luxor... so does that mean I should gamble a little more at the Luxor to get a btter chance at comps? What games are the best to get comps? And how long do you have to be playing at a certain game to get comped. Last question... I plan on playing some $3-$6 or $4-$8 hold em. Where the best place to play hold 'em in Vegas?? Also, can you still get comped playing hold 'em?

Most places will have two types of comps: the kind that come automatically based on how much your gambling, and the kind that are at the discretion of the managers.

For the first type, they'll often post the amounts on signs near the area where you pick up your card. You'll see exactly how many points you need to get the T-shirt, the buffet pass, etc. My advice here would be not to get your hopes up, since unless you're a high-roller a lot of places won't offer much through your card.

The discretionary comps can be better; general advice here is just to be friendly and look like you know what you're doing. Don't try to be too tricky -- they know all the tricks far better than you do. But if you're having a good time and spending money then good things should eventually happen. Again, don't get your hopes up too high and you won't be disappointed.

Show up dressed to the nines with a British accent. Works everytime. Oh and roll the big bills on the outside. A hundred folded around 7 ones works well.

I lost $1100 in one night playing blackjack in AC. I forget exactly how it was done, but my room was "comped". I guess it was just a "thank you" for the $1100 :).

I am not speaking from experience, but from what I have heard the Mirage is the best place for low limit hold 'em games.

You can always call a pit boss over and talk to him about the process, they are usually very friendly unless they have a major situation to take care of right then. It might take more than one table session to earn enough, but if you play most of the day it's usually not a problem to ask the pit boss if you can get dinner or a room taken care of.

And consolodating most of your play in one casino does increase what you can receive -- instead of spreading out your play and looking like a small fish to 6 different casinos, playing at one casino and looking like a slightly less small fish to the one and possibly earning more comps. Unless of course you are getting killed at the one casino, then get out of there and try to find a winner elsewhere :)

Finally, you can ask at the player's club (or possibly even a pit boss) to find out if you have a player represenative (casino/gaming host), and talk to him/her about your comps. I visit Atlantic City about once every month or so, and I simply email my host and he sets up the room and dining arrangements for me and takes care of any miscellaneus charges that may show up.

This is where its at. The last time i went to Vegas, i stayed at the Vegas Hilton, when i was on my out my buddies were telling me i should try getting some things comped. I never wanted to do it in the past, i felt awkward and i always thought they came to you for comping, not the other way around. So i stopped by someones office (i want to say it was the head concierge office, but that doesnt sound quite right) - anyways he pulled up what i had spent at the tables, the time spent at each table and what i had charged to my room. I spent a little under a 2k at the tables and played about 35 hours. I ended up getting 3 of my 5 nights free (79 a pop), a 200 dollar dinner, and 4 tickets to the Star Trek experience (i gave these to a nice looking family on my way out - 16 bucks a piece i think). Needless to say, it made my day. I highly recommend the Hilton.

Since that trip, they send me free weekday stay coupons and all other cool little incentives to come back. The best part, i went there with 3k - came home with around 9. I won a majorly crazy bet on a Monday Night Football game with Miami and the Jets hitting every over/under i picked. Won 6100 bucks off one 40 dollar ticket.
