Okay I have decided to add to my sports sim collection. Does any one have any recommendations on pro basketball sims? The Pros and Cons?

Total Pro Basketball is alright. You could also try Fast Break Basketball, those are the only two I know of right now ... as far as recommendations go, if the pro sim is anywhere near as good as the college game, I'd go with Fast Break. But I'm just going off of the college game.

There is one, AND ONLY ONE, choice here.

Fast Break Basketball (www.sportplanet.com/fbb (http://www.sportplanet.com/fbb))

The developer is easily the most responsive in ANY game genre (not limited to text sims), and the product is bug-free and all features actually work.

Pros:

-It's fucking awesome

Cons:

-None

Seriously, though, if there's a complaint against the game, it's that it's not flashy enough. But if you want an in-depth, realistic, and just "fun" pro basketball sim, there can be absolutely no doubt that FBB should be the game of choice.

I agree with everything RPI-Fan said, and I don't even own the pro game. Just the college one.

All I've got to add is that you'll be hard-pressed to find anyone that has anything negative to say about the Fast Break games and Brian's customer service.

If you would've asked this question a little bit earlier I wouldn't doubt that you'd receive around 10-15 replies echoing RPI-Fan's thoughts.

I think it's unfair to other games to assume that the pro game is the best or "only one" without playing all of them.

The best way to decide is to try the demo's and see for yourself.

Why?

Why?

It just has never worked "right." Something is always buggy. It works well in Multiplayer situations, but in single player you need hefty house rules.

I echo those who believe FBB is simply the best out there (and I have tried Jump shot Basketball, Total Pro Basketball and Fast Breat Basketball.) FBB is a great fun game, with an excellent programmer who offers the best service I've ever seen from a game developer. Even though it is not flashy and is starting to show its age, FBB still is plenty of fun to play when I want a pro basketball fix.

Does anyone know if various roster sets are available for FBB? I'm also looking for a pro sim, but I'm not enough of a basketball fan to get into it without real players.

A current roster set at a minimum, but some old ones would really put the icing on the cake.

I believe there are roster sets for the current version. Check the website (http://sportplanet.com/fbb/) for more information.

Also, there's a new version of FBB in coding right now. HR has mentioned some of the planned features in FBB's forums.

Just checked out the website. So I guess the most up-to-date version is the 2001 version. I assume that this has been out for several years now. Any idea when the new version is being released? I'm not that concerned however, as long as the current version has financials/good drafting/and a solid game engine.

No idea. HR hasn't set a date and hasn't started beta testing, so it is not within the next week. I won't speculate on when it will be released, however. Maybe HR will.
