CHAMBLEE, Ga. - Some Chamblee High School students expecting to see the usual morning announcements instead glimpsed a hard-core prank Tuesday morning.

School administrators were trying to determine who swapped a pornographic videotape for the school announcements tape, sending the images out to several classrooms.



"Our children in our news class do a tape each morning of the Chamblee morning news, and they bring it to the media center, and our media center specialist puts it into the machine," said assistant principal Becky Chambers.



Before the program is broadcast, the media specialist leaves the media center and goes to the main office, to turn on an audio feed to two or three places in the high school that do not have closed-circuit televisions, Chambers said.



"In the seconds that it took her to walk out of her office and head up the hall, some student — we don't know who — took the tape out of the machine and inserted a very inappropriate tape," Chambers said.



"A couple of the classrooms — fortunately not all of them had it on — got a very inappropriate feed for a matter of some seconds before a teacher could fly up here and alert us and we could fly back down the hall and pull the tape out," she said.



One parent who complained characterized the tape as hard-core pornography, but Chambers said she didn't view the tape and couldn't confirm its contents. Administrators were watching security camera tapes to try to determine who made the switch. Chambers said that with this being the last week of school, a senior prank "would be my best guess at this point."

Actually, this happened when I was in high school. Well, something similar. A teacher was going to play something about history or geography (it was 7th grade social studies). She puts the tape in with all of us staring...two naked people in a pool going at it. That was no soft-core either.

We all start laughing, including the teacher (who immediately stopped it). A few comments are made and more laughter for a good few minutes.

And go figure, it wasn't a news story nor did any parents go running to the papers or the school board because their kid saw a tit. My how things have changed.

Odd that I haven't heard about this story until reading it here. CHS is in DeKalb County, less than 5 miles from my office. The Tucker graduation will be at the stadium located adjacent to CHS. Also, I think we have at least one FOFC member who went to Chamblee High School, and one other whose wife went there. I won't tell who they are, though, to protect the potentially guilty. ;)

I just got off the phone with an adult I know who is close to the situation. He knows the kid who put the VCR in the tape. Again, some of this is coming from kids, but I tend to believe that he is getting pretty close to the real scoop. A few comments from him....

1. It appears that there will be several hundred charges, one for each minor who saw it.

2. He will not walk at graduation tonight, but he will receive his diploma.

3. His parents believe that he'll get off with probation, a fine and no felony convicton.

4. Three kids were involved. No surprise here, but the kid who actually put it in the VCR is the kid that the others always egged on to do something stupid.

5. The name of the video: Booty Commander 6. (You'd think that after five Booty Commanders, all the plot lines would be exhausted, but maybe I'm naive....)

I don't recall any "pranks" as such, although a guy that had graduated the year before called in a bomb threat to the school once a day, every day for a week and a half before he was caught...calling from the payphone out side the front door!

Oh, we did take marbles up to the stage with us, and when we were handed our diploma, we each gave a handful to the principal. He had somewhere around 3000 marbles by the end of the ceremony, stuffed in his pockets and stuff.

Senior pranks while I was in high school:

1. Flooded the "commons area" (it had a recess step thingy that allowed students to sit around and talk) and put gold fish in it.

2. Made an outhouse out of cardboard, an effigy of the principle with his paints down and had hit him sitting on a barrel of horse manure.

3. Put an assistant principles Yugo on top of a dumpster.

Those where the most memorable ones. No charges where filed in any of them. :)

This happened at our high school last year. Our announcements are all done by live broadcast from our TV studio, except for the national anthem, which is played from a VHS tape (the video shows a waving flag while the audio plays).

Some kids replaced that tape with a hard-core porno. It ran for about ten seconds before it got cut off.

The official line is that we never knew who did it. Publically, the administration made a lot of noise about prosecution and such. Privately, I think the administration knew who did it, and just smacked the kids around a little bit (figuratively, not literally) and then let them off the hook.

I think our school's senior prank was a bunch of seniors went to our rival's HS and spray painted all of their windows green (our color) and burnt "FM LAX" into their football field. Of course our idiot administators thought we (the lacrosse team) had did it, to which we replied "Why on earth would he basically sign our names on the football field?"

Still was pretty funny since they painted the windows the night before their school budget vote.

Me and my friends came up with some great pranks, but sadly we could not execute them. My school administration (by the time I was a senior) had gone off the deep end. The year before, a student got expelled (later overturned) for a prank. So none of us wanted to risk it. :(

You know what's really sad? They couldn't have gotten in as much trouble if they threw in "Faces of Death". What does that say about our moral/legal system?

We didnt really have a senior prank at my High School. Of course we didnt go to school much considring we had set a NJ state record for number of bomb scares. Somewhere in the 35-40 range cant remember the exact number but i do know that a school in DC had 93!!! There was even a "device" put on the roof one day (cardbard box with bomb written on it). Alot of people called but the main ones were these 3 kids who were also stealing cars from one kids Dad's auto dealership.

I dont see what the big deal is. But then again i went to a school were people got stabbed, Teachers and even the school cop got the shit kicked out of them and that was just a subarban school, and the media never gave two shits.

I don't think it should be ignored. Give him a fine and some community service. I just find it funny how psycho people go over these things. But charging him with hundreds of counts (which they're probably only doing so they'll scare him into taking whatever plea bargin they give him)? That's pretty much overboard.

Exactly. Assuming that these students who are involved don't have any criminal pasts, I think a small fine (in line with lets say, how much a reasonable teenager can earn in 3-4 months) along with 160 hours of community service would be good.

I arrived at school on Wednesday to find that the windows in the building where I teach had scraps of paper and adhesive stuck on them. I figured that someone had papered the school. As I found out, someone had Photoshopped the heads of our administrators onto sexually explicit bodies. It also seems that they gave our (female) principal a penis. Admin claims to have videotape of the incident, and that those responsible will not walk (I don't know who it supposedly was), but other teachers are claiming that the cameras were not working that night, and that it was too dark at any rate. A below-par prank, IMO.

However, my wife just reminded me that a few years ago, our valedictorian, during his speech, stripped down to a G-string. He was protesting the little box of standards and rules that high school places students into. We made CNN on that one. Allegedly he has a fan club of gay men in Australia.

We hired two male strippers to dance at the end-of year faculty banquet for our senior prank. From our "inside" eyewitness (a teacher we knew we could trust) he said that the two guys walked in, went to the front of the room with a boom box, put on "It's Raining Men" and proceeded to strip, although they "lacked flare and energy" (that's a quote from my old teacher, take it for what it's worth). Their chests had large 98's painted on them. Some of the female staff laughed a bit, and then security was called.

We never got caught, although a bunch of juniors were saying that the faculty was pissed and wanted "to see heads roll".
