And I don't want to hear any whining about tough weeks. I get to assign 90 high school kids to hotel rooms. Without question, the hotel is *the* biggest headache of this sort of trip every year. Care to guess why? Here are the options:

A. Virtually every kid on the trip believes that they will absolutely *DIE* if they aren't in the hotel room with all five of their best friends, even though the rooms only sleep four people.

B. There are a good chunk of 'em that I don't trust as far as I can throw 'em, and therefore I have to assign them to a room wtih at least one adult in it.

C. I have to combine some who will *not* get along into the same room, because the most untrustworthy ones also typically do not work and play well with others.

D. Hotels are skeptical about a large group of teenagers, and therefore watch 'em like a hawk, and report the most petty and mundane transgressions to me, even when they're over and done with. (So they were pushing each other in the pool. Big flippin' deal! Your security guy told 'em to stop and they did, didn't they??? Why did you find it necessary to interrupt my nap to tell me the whole story??? )

E. Inevitably, with a group this size, two girls who are friends as of the day I assign the rooms (Monday) will have a massive fight, probably about a guy, (
"She sat next to Melvin on the bus and she KNEW I had a crush on him. Ben, I can NOT sleep in the same room with her!!!")

F. Inevitably, even though I tell them to, in a few of the rooms the hotel will forget to disable porn, the in-room video games, or possibly both, and then I'll get to deal with that one.

G. I'll announce the be-in-your-room by 11:30pm curfew before we disembark the buses, and every kid will hear it plain as day. However, a few will think they can start some laundry at 11:15pm and will *BEG* me to let them stay up until it is done.

H. Because of those who choose to "test" me on the curfew issue, I will not get to sleep until well after 2am on Friday night.

I. All Of The Above.
