I have been tinkering around with OOTP6 and I like a lot of what I have seen but I tried to sim through 1980 to see the Phillies last championship team and after a couple months of simming, I look att he transaction logs and find some very strange moves being made.

1) Boston trades LF Carl Yastrzemski to St. Louis for C Terry Kennedy.

2) Kansas City trades LF Hal Mcrae and 2.3 million dollars to Philadelphia for 2 career minor leaguers.

3) Phillies put LF Greg Gross on waivers.

4) Phillies release !B PETE ROSE after he refused assignment to the minors.

5) Pittsburgh place 1B Willie Stargell on waivers.

6) P Mark Fidrych, SS Alan Knicely, LF Jay Johnstone and 2B Mike Ramsey have all been released, or placed on waicverrs by 3 teams in a two month span.

This was all in a one season replay using the Lahman database. There have been a lot of trades where a team has picked up a couple minor leaguers for a starter as it seems like teams are building for tommorrow in a replay season. It would not stick out to me as much if these trades were at least near the trade deadline and the teams giving up the starters were out of the race but it's the first couple months and teams like Kansas City were in the running for their division lead at the time of the deals (KC has since slipped to 7 back after dealing Mcrae and another starter).

I understand that it can be expected that a few odd things might happen, but it seems like too many far out things already in that season.

Sorry about the bitching, just wanted to vent a bit.

i recommend to do the player AI evaluation

Rating weight 50%, current yr 0%, last yr stats 30%, and 2 yr old stat 20%..

then beginning every month add 5% to current yr and take away -5% from 2yr old stats...

My first thought whenever I see a post like this is that you have to forget the names. It's things like this that make me better understand the appeal of fictional universes. The OOTP doesn't see Pete Rose or Willie Stargell, it just sees the numbers. If you post the ratings, talent and other details (team finances, et al.) then some of these deals make sense.

That said, I still see the OOTP AI being a bit "transaction happy." The last update helped, but the AI still makes some odd decisions. You'll see a 5-star prospect on the waiver wire, for example, or you'll see teams make trades seemingly for the sake of making a trade.

Agreed, though I've never looked in great detail at this I wonder if this doesn't at times happen IRL. Just a thought..... ;)
