Welcome to year 2 of my Duke Blue Devils TCY Dynasty. You can read the dominance that was....year 1 below.

Year 1 (2-10) (http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/%7Efof/forums/showthread.php?t=25759)

Staff Losses

Well one scout and our D-coordinator were scooped up in the off-season. Oh no! Tell me it isn't so. I don't think either were gonna be kept on anyway. Loses:

Chris Hamby - (D-coor) Congrats to whomever scooped him up. A bad defensive season awaits.

Ernie Lincoln - (Southeast region) Well our local scout left. I think he was pretty decent but oh well.

Hirings

Syndicate Coordinator - Preston Leaf (42) - There wasn't anyone better so we let Leaf stay on for a 2nd season. He ranks "fair" in Academic Eligibility and Investigations but "excellent" in Donations.

Offensive Coordinator - Kerry Jorgensen (55) - Not a lot to choose from here in year one so we just went with the best available. Kerry's strengths lie in Play Calling and Injury Avoidance which is always important to have. Poor development in RB's and WR's might cause us to look elsewhere next year.

Defensive Coordinator - Edward Curtis (64) - Ed is a cagey veteran and could be on the verge of retiring...but he's better than the guy we had last year. Again Play Calling is his strength along with Injury Avoidance. He's also very good in bonding with the recruits.

We also hired all new scouts.

Scheduling

With Northwestern as a hold-over from last year we just had two openings this year. So we added a road game at South Florida and then a home game against SMU.

Kimball and Duncan's future wasn't as great as I thought they would be...especially Duncan...but again they are better than what we currently have. Our first recruiting class ranked #25.

Kraemer, George 77 G Sr 6-4 285
Malone, Zack 65 T Jr 6-6 295
Prior, Winston 73 T Sr 6-7 295

Scott Ramsey has the best "current" talent but the near future belongs to Kimball...so we're just gonna throw him in the fire along with TE McGarrahan and WR Duncan. I really expected to have to start all Freshmen but C Nichols was decent enough to redshirt Ramsey. Next year's line will be young with four seniors on the line this year. I really expect the freshmen to carry us on O.

Defense

Chrysler, Ricky 78 DE Sr 6-5 270
Padgett, Wesley 93 DE* So* 6-2 231

Turnbull, Derrick 27 CB Fr 6-0 180
Geller, Frankie 44 S Sr 5-11 181
Shepard, Xavier 26 S Fr 5-11 182

Last year's D was young and this year will be no different except this year we go with five freshmen. I have no idea if these freshmen will make the D better than last year's but hopefully their future potential will have some merit. At least we're a little bulkier at LB this year as well.

Special Teams

Mitchell, Benjamin 6 P So* 6-1 189
Collins, Leroy 4 K Fr 5-10 177

The freshmen Collins will also get the start here too.

C Alonzo Ramsey and DT Bob Palazzo are being redshirted. Palazzo has one of the best future potentials of the incoming class but won't be ready this year.

Well no surprise here. Picked dead last. I don't blame the voters I may have nothing this year as well. The voters flipped around G-Tech and Fla St from last year's final standings. Wake Forest must have had a lot of Sr's cause they didn't get much respect after finishing tied for 4th.

Duke (0-0) at South Florida (0-0) (-4)

Key Injuries - None

Preview - South Florida is ranked #92 pre-season. Last year they went 4-8 in a lesser conference so we'll see how this one goes. They were able to land a lot of nice freshmen as well. Their class rank was #53. It looks like our run D will have to step up in the first game as they run the Wing-T.

Well I'd like to say that Kimball is ready to take over the helm but I should have listened to my offensive coordinator. Three Int's and 73 yards passing are not really gonna get it done against an ok South Florida defense. I was optimistic early as the Freshmen connection of Kimball to Duncan made the score 7 all...but it fell apart after that. Rushing-wise things weren't too bad...but I'll have to plug Ramsey in there in game 2 to see what happens. Let's not let the defense off the hook however as they gave up 380 more yards.

Up next: Northwestern at home.

Week 2

Northwestern (0-1) at Duke (0-1) (-3)

Last season: 30-19 for the Dukies

Key Injuries - None

Preview - Last season QB Scott Ramsey had one of his better games of the year by throwing for 222 yeards and 2 TD passes. We also gained 393 yards in total offense. Scott Ramsey will get his first start of the year after Fr QB Matt Kimball laid an egg in his first college performance. Northwestern lost their opening game to Vandy 21-18 so hopes are high as the come to Durham for the 2nd year in a row. The Wildcats have no notable returning starters on offense and they're running the I-Form or the 2nd year in a row.

A win! A win I say! Well after nine loses in a row we finally break into the win column again...and it was against the same team we won our last game against. We actually had a tough game on our hands through 3 quarters...before we broke it open with 24 points in the 4th. Ramsey was an unreal...for him anyway...22-32 for 240 yards and 2 TD's. And Charlie Hammond had his first 100 yard rushing game with 101 yards and 1 TD. The Fr Duncan had his 2nd TD catch in as many games. Defensively we still gave up 302 yards but we stuck Northwestern in long field situations throughout the game which made it hard for them to sustain drives.

Next up: A bye week and then back home against SMU.

CB Derrick Turnbull - Sprained Neck - Probable 3 weeks

Not a lot to report in week four. Recruiting continues but it's too early to gauge what the recruits are thinking. This year we're looking to fill all 16 scholarships. The bye week will also give two of our better freshmen a chance to heal their injuries.

Next up: SMU.

#47 SMU (2-0) at Duke (1-1) (-2)

Key Injuries
WR Vincent Duncan - Bruised Sternum - Probable 4 weeks
CB Derrick Turnbull - Sprained Neck - Probable 3 weeks

Preview - SMU comes into this game with a 2-0 record after clobbering both of their opponents so far this year. Week 2 vs Anchorage they won 45-7 and then followed that up with a win over their cross town rival TCU 30-3. SMU runs the Double-Wing O and is led by a pair of RB's. RS So Thurman Delgado has 357 yards on 64 carries and So Ryan Jones has 228 yards on 35 carries. Both RB's have 4 TD's each. In the two games they've run the ball a total of 114 times compared to only 23 passing attempts. Rushing teams have caused us problems so far so this will be a big challenge to our club. Forecast calls for rain so we could be in trouble.

What a game this was. I didn't know my team was capable of competing in a shoot-out...but they proved it in this one. Scott Ramsey continued to improve on his numbers as he has his best game of his career by throwing for 260 yards and 3 TD's with no Int's. Charlie Hammond had his second straight 100 yard game on the ground and Vincent Duncan continued his streak of three straight games of catching a TD pass. Even though this was a shoot-out the turning point in the game was right before the half. While up 14-6...our freshman sensation Derrick Turnbull intercepted a pass with no time on the clock and took it in for a TD. His second game in a row doing that. Things haven't been happier...but it could be short lived as Clemson comes into town next week.

Next up: We kick off the ACC regular season hosting Clemson.

#22 Clemson (2-0) (-9) at Duke (2-1)

Last season: 38-7 Clemson in Death Valley

Key Injuries
LB Wayne Markham - Sprained Knee - Doubtful 4 weeks
WR Vincent Duncan - Bruised Sternum - Probable 3 weeks
CB Derrick Turnbull - Sprained Neck - Probable 2 weeks

Preview - The only thing we took from last year's game was that Clemson was the first ACC opponent that we had held under 40 points. Clemson comes into this game with the 20th best rushing attack in the nation after two games. Defensively they have been solid so far as they are 13th in rushing defense and 16th in passing defense. Clemson hasn't been tested so far this season as they've had two wins against New Mexico State and Tulsa. Hopefully we can perform a bit better than last year. For us...Fr OLB Markham...our leading tackler...is listed as doubtful with a sprained knee but said he wants to go so we'll give him the start and see how he performs.

I can't even believe they let us play the final three quarters. That may have been THE most depressing loss of my tenure. 7 TURNOVERS!! Who's next?

Next up: at North Carolina State

Recruiting - Well week 5 wasn't all crappy as we nabbed our first recruit.

LB Robert Meadows from Tucson, Arizona. We're apparently big in Tucson as Meadows is our 2nd recruit from that fine city in as many years. Meadows stands 6-0 and weighs 216lbs. He's the 6th rated OLB in the country and had 80 tackles his Sr year. His strength is Intercepting Passes and his Athletic Prep is 100!! Well our week wasn't a total bust.

Preview - I'm not sure what to say before a conference game anymore. My O has gone in lockdown mode with only 3 points scored in each of the last two games. And here I thought I may have a chance to hang with some teams this year. With Virginia...this in only their 4th game of the year...and their QB hasn't thrown a TD pass yet this year. Something tells me they may get their first today. Losing Lucero kinda sucks since he's one of the up and coming freshman. I think having Turnbull...Markham and Duncan banged up the last few weeks has really hampered my teams overall play.

Midseason Report Part II

Well since I'm sitting here bored at work at 3 in the afternoon and now that I've cooled off after my team's performance last night...I figured it was time to do a little write-up halfway through the season.

It's obvious that both sides of the ball still need a little work but for right now let's concentrate on the enigma this is our current offense. We were really hoping Fr QB Matt Kimball would be ready to take over the helm...but after a game one beating handed down by the Bulls...he just proved that this wasn't gonna be the year for him. So Scott Ramsey was inserted and led this team to some inspired wins before returning to last year's late season form. Speaking of that...here are the points scored in our last seven ACC games: 0...3...7...0...3...3 and 0. Unreal. I mean..c'mon. Onto the running game...when we've had a chance to run the ball...RB Charlie Hammond has actually been pretty decent as he's sporting a 5.31 ypc along with 5 TD's. Our highly touted Fr WR Vincent Duncan has been our best receiver so far...as he's leading the team in catches with 13 and touchdown catches with 3. Besides being overmatched we're turning the ball over way too much. 21 in six games isn't gonna get it done as that ranks us 124th in the nation.

Defensively we've been a siv in about every game we've played. But luckily the D hasn't been the reason we've given a game away. When we've lost...we've lost and we've lost big. There's no two ways about it. Now...you could argue that the D not stopping anyone early could deflate an offense...but c'mon...this is just sim. :D The stand-outs have mostly been the freshmen and last year's 1st team all-ACC DT Emmanuel Sikma. Son of Jack...he's back this year leading our team in tackles with 2.5 and 4th in tackles with 24. Otherwise it's all about the froshes as four out of the top five tacklers on our team are freshmen. ILB Hickman with 37...WOLB Markham 29...S Shepard 29...and DT Woodard with 23. Then Fr CB Derrick Turnbull leads our team with 4 Int's...2 have been taken back for TD's. So it's obvious our hope lies in the future. Hopefully we'll turn this thing around soon. Until then...there's always hope with Carolina in week 11.

Ok...back to work. :D

Uhhh...I'm not sure what to say here. I think G-Tech had a little mercy on our defense. We continued our string of embarassing offensive performances with another goose egg and 54 total yards on 52 plays. A school record.

Next up - Maryland at Duke

Recruiting - Recruiting always brightens my day when I've given up on the season.

C Deron Siler from Brooklyn, New York. Deron's the 20th ranked center and he stands a very odd 6-6...296lbs. Quite tall for a center...but we're not complaining. Siler's stength is Pass Protection and his Athletic Prep is 88.

CB Terrell Stokes from Mobridge, SD. Ahh...a recruit from my home state. No one knew they could produce D1 talent in SD...but we're happy to have him. Terrell's the 43rd ranked CB in the land and his strength is Man to Man D. He's 6-0...163lbs and his Athletic Prep is 22.

S Stephen Hardy from Houston, Texas. The Texas pipeline remains open as we nab the 53rd ranked Safety in the high school ranks. Hardy's strength is run defense as we look for him to be our strong safety of the future. Hopefully he'll gain a few pounds as right now he's 5-9...163lbs. His Ahtletic Prep is 4.

As expected they just fed the ball to Wells...34 times...and he just controlled the game. This is getting a little ridiculous. But hey...we scored a TD. A Nate Watkins 104 KO return to tie it up early. Then we were real feisty giving up those other 50 points.

Next up - A bye. Thank god.

Recruiting - Four more recruits to gander at.

RB Lamont Cooley from Memphis, TN. Lamont's the 49th ranked RB in all the land. He specializes in Third-Down Running and his Athletic Prep is 98. Lamont's a shorty standing 5-8 and 185lbs.

G Randal Holmes from Shiprock, NM. Holmes is a run blocking specialist who stands 6-1 and 268lbs. He's the 61st rated G in the nation and his Athletic Prep is 75.

T JJ Godfrey from Mastic Beach, NY. JJ...the 64th ranked T in the high school ranks was our 2nd choice at the position as our dream guy from NC ended up going to Ohio State. But JJ has good size...6-6 and 289lbs and his Athletic Prep is 54.

CB Daryl Back from Ripley, MS. Daryl becomes our 2nd recruit at CB. He's 6-1 and 178lbs. His strength is also Man to Man D and he is the 67th ranked CB. His Athletic Prep is 60.
