Welcome to year 3 of my Duke Blue Devils TCY Dynasty. You can read the dominance that was....year 1 & 2 below.

Year 1 (2-10) (http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/%7Efof/forums/showthread.php?t=25759)
Year 2 (2-9) (http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/%7Efof/forums/showthread.php?t=25870)

Our emails tell us that T Gene Walker has left the team due to lack of playing time. I guess we couldn't help it that he was bad.

And our Syndicate Coordinator Preston Leaf left the school as he took a job with Illinois. Not a huge loss here.

Hirings
Syndicate Coordinator - Wesley Rhodes 51. The loss of Leaf was a little bit bigger blow than we thought as there wasn't a whole lot available. Rhodes is decent in Eligibility and good at Donations but terrible at Investigations. We'll just stay away from bribing the new recruits. ;)

We are only able to hire on one other staff member (South West Scout) as the pickins are slim. So Jorgensen and Curtis will be back as Offensive and Defensive Coordinators respectively.

Duke (0-0) at Northwestern (0-1) (-5) No TV

Last season: 34-18 Dukies

Key Injuries - None

Preview - Northwestern had the unfortunate luck of playing USC in Week 2 and got slaughtered 58-10. I know how that feels. Ellis Rhodes had a rough week at QB going 10-23 for 160 yards and 3 Int's. He's a 2nd year starter. We've unbelievably won both games in this series and hope to continue that streak.

Wow. We had to really work for that one. NU went up 21-10 at one point after a Hunter Lindsay 2 yd TD run with 7:54 left in the 3rd. But then our O and D stepped up as we got a TD run from Charlie Hammond to bring it to 21-16. Then an 18 yd pass to Dusty Lucero...plus the two point conversion to put us up 24-21. Kimball had an up and down game but didn't turn the ball over so that's all we can ask for him at this point.

New Mexico State (0-2) at #48 Duke (1-0) (-8) No TV

Key Injuries

Preview - I'm kinda giddy...we have a ranking by our name. We're enjoying it while it lasts. New Mex St comes into this game at 0-2. Both losses have been on the road 24-3 to Anchorage and 49-7 to Tennessee. They like us run a Pro-Form so hopefully our D can use that to their advantage. The only individual performer that sticks out is RB Leslie Strobel who has 209 yards rushing on only 20 carries. I hope Hammond's turf toe injury doesn't affect him too much this year.

Despite the final score...we really struggled to put this team away. It was still 14-7 after three...but our D came alive in the 4th and we got a Lamont Cooley 8 yd run to put it away with 3:54 left in the game. Our D had a school record 9 sacks on the day and the MVP of the game Hunter Hickman had 2 of them along with 6 tackles. Matt Kimball broke the school record for most passing yards for the 2nd game in a row by throwing for 272. The only score given up on the day was a fumble return by their D. We're 2-0 for the first time.

Last season: 55-0 at Viginia

Key Injuries

Preview - Virginia has just owned us in our two previous meetings. They've outscored us 106-10. So far this year...the Cavs are 1-1 with a loss at Utah and a win at home versus Mississippi St. They've only scored 17 points in two games...so hopefully our D will have a chance against their Veer attack for once. So far so good...but this is usually where reality sets in. I'm really impressed with our Fr WR Kerry Huffman season to this point. He's climbed into the starting lineup after game one and he's had the most chances (17) and catches (12). Our LB core has been carrying our team as all three starters are the top 3 tacklers on our team.

Well after the first quarter I thought this was going down the same path as the previous two meetings as we were down 21-0. But then our D kinda sucked it up for the rest of the game...it's unfortunate though as our offense could only muster three FG's. Matt Kimball threw the ball 41 times but could only complete 8 passes against a staunch Wahoo D. We also held them to 97 net rushing yards. I'm kinda giddy. :D

Next up - The Wolfpack come to Duham and we're on TV. Woohoo!

Recruiting - We lost two recruits this week. We even lost one that was visiting. The other was the top ranked player in the country...a G. We thought what the heck. He did have Academics listed as his top priorty and we had the top rank in the subject...we just weren't high profile enough.

#16 North Carolina State (4-0) (-17) at Duke (2-1) TV5

Last season: 73-3 NC State in Raleigh.

Key Injuries
RB Charlie Hammond - Turf Toe - Unknown
Lamont Colley - Broken Hand - Probable 5 weeks

Preview - The Wolfpack have owned us the last two years. Two years ago it was 52-10...last year it was 52-3...at the half. Just so ugly. They went on to win 73-3. The player we have to worry about most is Sr RB Justin Cole who has 750 yards on the ground this year and 7 TD's. The QB situation has been somewhat dicey in Raleigh so far as Weatherspoon and Dawkins are youngsters trying to get decide who wants the starting job. But the Pack is 4-0 and ranked #16 in this young season.

That one...was stolen from us. Flat out. We had a team that has outscored us 125-6 in the last two years...on the ropes...and they came back in the final minute of the game to steal one from us. The Dukies basically played out of their asses as they were up 14-10 with a couple minutes to play. We had a drive that used up all of NC State's TO's and punted the ball into their territory. But they put a drive together with no TO's and scored on a JC Weatherspoon TD pass with 1:15 left. Then on the next drive...we had all three TO's left but Jason Alameda intecepted a pass and took it back 63 yards for a TD to ice it. We had this one and it slipped away. We even outgained the Pack 339 to 263 in total offense. Maybe our performance impressed the recruits as they were actually able to watch us on TV...ha.

Preview - Well coming off last week's heartbreak it will be interesting to see how my team reacts. G-Tech's only loss this year came against NC State 22-24...so I guess that is somewhat inspiring. The biggest problem in facing the Yellowjackets is that they have the 2-time ACC Player of the Year...Sr RB Colin Marvin. Marvin has rushed for 3179 yards in his 2 1/2 year career along with 27 TD's on the ground. He's also averaged 5.5 ypc.

I refuse to believe that we got beat that badly. The first quarter was a complete disaster. First a GT TD pass. Then a turnover deep in our own territory. That leads to a 2nd TD. Then a punt return for a TD. Then another turnover in our end to lead to another TD. Add one more and all of a sudden it's 35-0 with 2:58 left in the 1st. Enter the 2nd string and we then went on to score 17 points. Go us.

On top of having a really good offense...FSU has a strong defense. 101 yards of total offense is not going to win you any games. Either is giving up almost 600 yards of total offense.

RB Lamont Colley - Broken Hand - Probable 2 weeks

Preview - Sitka comes out of the Solecimistic 8 Conference from way up north. They have two wins on the season...one over Fairbanks 42-34 and one over Kodiak 24-21. Otherwise in their other four losses they have scored just 6 points. Sounds very reminiscent of Duke seasons gone by. It's kinda nice to get a break from the tough ACC schedule and play a team that I may actually beat. I'm so used to ending the season on a long-ass losing streak so we really need to win this.

Now that we're seven games into the season there's two things that are apparent. One is that my offense still needs some work. The second is that my defense is pretty dang good. Without any D1 level defensive ends we've made drastic improvements as compared to the last two seasons. After this game...our first shutout by the way...we're 27th in rushing yards and 64th in passing yards given up. The last two seasons I think we've been in the 100's. It was nice to see a defensive player get the MVP in this game as Jerome Fleming...a back-up DE no less...came up with 3 sacks. Matt Kimball had his first nice game in a while as well. Hey we finally won 3 games!!

Next up - The Terps come to town.

So I guess this is gonna be the year of close but no cigar. Once again I'm finally in an ACC game just to come up short. We were dreadful until late in the 2nd quarter when we intercepted a pass in Maryland territory then took it in for a Kerry Huffman TD. After that Maryland added a Mike Jackson touchdown catch midway through the 3rd and that was enough to hold on. I really gotta give it up to my D this year....they're making these close game possible.

But yet somehow they are 48th in scoring. Like my squad...it must be the D. Again...I'm at home...I've had two close calls this year...can this team finally break through?

Last season: Wake Forest 48-15

Key Injuries
DT Ray Stepnowski - Repetitive Concussion Syndrome - Out 61 weeks
WR Vincent Duncan - Sprained Ankle - 2 weeks
RB Charlie Hammond - Concussion - Probable 5 weeks
LB Wayne Markham - Strained Triceps Muscle - Probable 2 weeks

Preview - Wake runs the Run and Shoot Offense and last year they run and shot all over me to the tune of 48 points. Currently they have the #1 rated passing attack in the nation. 1st in Attempts (432)...1st in Completions (264)and first in Passing Yards (3350). Sr QB AJ Price has thrown 28 TD's this year and he's thrown 23 to two different receivers. Chris Rhodes 10 and Tyrone Donaldson 13. On the flip side their D hasn't been the greatest as they are 61st in rushing yards and 115 in passing yards given up. Oh let's see what we can do in this one ok?

Preview - I felt really good about my season until last game. What happened to my solid sub-par defense? I know Wake Forest had the best passing attack in the nation but 531 yards good? C'mon. I've had no luck against Carolina the last two years and they've been the 2nd worst team in the ACC. Now they're respectable at 5-5. A win seems out of reach at this point.
