OT: Final day of High School

Tomorrow is my final day of high school. It's pretty weird to even think about at this point. I know Shorty, or I believe anyways, is a senior, and I know of a few others who are, so I was wondering when you guys get out, and how you feel about it all.

I've had a blast in school the last two years. It helps that I am a personable kid, so I really go to school being able to talk to anyone. Tomorrow is definetly going to be weird for me, but fun too.

And for those of you who already left HS, how'd you feel when it was all said and done?

Any regrets from the whole thing?

Any accomplishments you were proud to have?

For me, I have now gone 18 years without a drink, or smoking or any of that. It's just one of those things where I feel no desire to do. It's actually pretty funny too because my teachers all know I am basically the one kid not to expierement in stuff like that, so it's had its perks.

But thats an example. Lemme hear it from you guys.

I do understand that it's a shock at first, but once I get adjusted, I should be having a blast.

After about 2 weeks or so you'll be bored. College is great fun as well, but you realize HS was a lot better than you thought at the time.

Also, word of advice. If you do start drinking in college (and there will be ample opportunity) ease into it. Don't get hammered your first time.

Depends on where you go and what you study, and how many credit hours you take.

It can be a piece of cake, or it can kick your ass...

If you can afford it, resign yourself to the 5-year plan, and take a cupcake schedule the first year or so... just to give yourself time to adjust and enjoy the honeys.

I had my last day of school last Thursday and graduate tomorrow night. It still feels kinda stange. The main thing I'm gonna miss is being on the basketball team. And high school was so easy for me I didn't really want it to end.

Of high school, college, and law school, I missed college the most. I missed high school for about 5 seconds, and I tried to miss law school as much as I could during the third year. College was easy and fun.

Keep in mind that I went to an All-Guys Private, Jesuit High School.

I loved High School...a ton of fun. Missed a lot without having girls there, but I made a bunch of great friends that I still talk to on a regular basis 5 years later. I also had a job...but my best friend was my boss, I made $12 an hour, and I got to sit in a pool and stare at the really cute swim team, diving team and synchronized swimming team. I taught little kids swim lessons. Greatest. Job. Ever.

Anyhow...I missed high school a little...but College is amazing. Still here in my fifth year, and though I'm not coming back for school, I'm staying in the college town next year as well. I love it, and it was very easy for me to forget about High School. I miss my friends a bit...but I still kick it with them when I go back home.

Obviously, all things in moderation. But part of the college experience is hitting the bottle all night, waking up at noon the next day, and doing it all over again that night.

I had lots of fun doing absolutely nothing and getting in trouble with friends and girls. Then reality hit and I went to good ol' junior college, its been actually kind of cool. During the school year I get to learn a lot and without any real distractions. During the summer, I've taken trips to many schools in the West where most of my friends go, including Stanford, Berkeley, Arizona State, Santa Barbara, San Diego State and I'll be going to Hawaii Pacific U in September. The summers have been an absolute blast. Now All I have to do is decide which one of above institutions I should attend for my last 2 years of college. BTW if anyone has a opinion it would be appreciated.

thats awesome man, i went into college thinking i could stay away from that stuff too, but by the end of the first week i was drinking 4-5 nights a week and that lasted two years before i cleaned up my act and toned it down....i never got into drugs though thank God for that one!

It's the second-largest public university in the USA, nestled in a gorgeous suburb of the 6th largest metropolitan area in the country. The weather is always warm and sunny during the school year. What does all this mean?

It means that ASU has more scantily clad hotties per square foot than any other place in the world. Period. No sane heterosexual male should even bother considering another school if ASU is a feasible option.

Agreed. To me, college was mainly about learning to live without constant supervision, learning to keep myself in check instead of my parents doing it for me. I viewed it as a learning experience, not an excuse to get hammered every night. I had a couple of good friends who fell into that trap; never drank in high school, ended up dropping out of college after 2 years or taking 7 years to complete a 4 year degree because they couldn't control themselves.

Of course, my idea of fun usually doesn't match with 90% of the rest of the world's, so I had a built-in excuse for not wanting to participate in the "fun"; but then again, we ARE all at a text sim message board, so I'm sure I'm not the only one around here...

Someone mentioned reunions. I went to my 10 year high school reunion, as well as my wife's. Same thing happened at both - first hour, everyone is glad to see everyone else, treats them like long-lost brothers/sisters, even people who hated each other or barely knew one another. Then, over the next few hours, people begin to migrate back to their high school cliques, almost without a conscious effort. It was eerie. By the end, you could take a snapshot of the scene, superimpose it over a picture of your high school cafeteria 10 years earlier, and you wouldn't notice a difference - except there would be more fat and bald people in the new picture.

That pattern continued straight through college. About six months after graduating from college, I was faced with a personal choice to continue the lifestyle I was living: scraping money at the end of each month to make rent, playing in a band, depressed, and ignoring a serious addiction; or change my lifestyle completely.

I picked the latter. At least I was able to make that choice.

Sharpie, go to ASU buddy. I have many friends who attend there, as well as my girlfriend, and they all love it. It's a beautiful campus as well, and you can't beat the local sights (women). I will be attending there for my final 2 years as well. Who knows, maybe I'll see a 'round.

You guys should consider yourself lucky that you're getting out so soon, I don't graduate until June 24. To make matters worse the AP Test were the first two weeks of May, so since then I've been doing absolutly nothing in school which believe it or not is not as fun as it seems. Then compounded on that is the fact we're watching Nixon in my History class as well as my government class so I get to watch the same 45 minutes every day. Add that to an awful French musical we're watching and I can barely stand school anymore. Plus track is over for me now, so I have nothing to do after school except for the occasional sporting event, thankfully both our softball team and baseball team have made it to the State Sectional Championship Games, so there has been some entertainment.

As to high school vs. college, I see both pros and cons. I too never drink or do drugs but all my friends here pretty much drink every week, so when there's no girls for me to hit on the parties or a game on TV, etc. I pretty much just hang out with a bunch of drunk guys. Another problem I have, specifically with girls, is the image I have, which is that I'm a nice, smart, cute guy but since I was really shy the first ten years of school, they have trouble picturing me as their boyfriend. So to compensate I've had to go extra hard after them, although I'm not really having too much luck. In college, it will be nice to get a fresh start and not have to have people think of me as the smart kid who knows everything, etc.

On the con side, it's going to be hard leaving all my friends behind, especially since I'm going to U of Michigan, which means I won't be coming home to often to visit them. It's also going to be weird not having my reputation preceeding me because I've always been respected by the teachers and faculty at the school and probably get a way with a lot more stuff than I should of because of that(i.e. I left watching Nixon in Gov't since I had already seen it for 45 minutes and just talked to some other teachers in the lobby. The teacher basically said since it's me, she won't write me up).

So in a way I can't wait to get out but it's going to be tough this summer knowing I'm leaving everybody for a while.

High School was the biggest blast of my life. I had such a great run.

College was great as well, much more girls to get to know. That was the biggest advantage of college.

Now, working like a mule, I miss both equally. But at least you have college in front of you, instead of behind you. Lots of great times ahead.

HS was an awesome time for me. College so far blows. Then again, I go to a small school. It is a glorified HS with harder classes and you have to pay a TON of money for it. Smacks self on head for choosing the school I did.
