View Full Version : FOF2k4 Singleplayer Gameplan Bug?

I think I found a severe bug in FOF2k4 that probably applies for all AI-controlled teams.
If this really affects all AI Teams their performance is harmed quite a bit. Obviously I can't be sure about that, but based on their yearly run/pass distribution (as seen in the teamstats window), it appears to affect them.
Now that noone has a clue what I'm talking about, I shall explain...

While quicksimming for a few years, I set the option to allow my coach to reset my gameplan prior to each game. Sadly this doesn't work as it probably should.
As it doesn't change the Run/Pass distribution/expectation in some situations:

Offensive Game Plan - Normal Situations: Percentage of Running Plays Called
Offensive Game Plan - Your Team Leads: Percentage of Running Plays Called
Offensive Game Plan - Your Team Trails: Percentage of Running Plays Called
Defensive Game Plan - Normal Situations: Percentage of Running Plays Expected
Defensive Game Plan - Your Team Leads: Percentage of Running Plays Expected
Defensive Game Plan - Your Team Trails: Percentage of Running Plays Expected

Also noticeable is, if I click on recommend at the affected gameplan settings it changes just those values affected. This leads me to believe it indeed is a bug.
Well, after some years of quicksimming I decided to take charge again and install a rather extreme gameplan (just passing, no matter the down, no matter the distance).
I played like that for some years until I got bored and switched teams. To my surprise my former team still continued to pass almost exclusively and does to this day (about 20 game years later).
Thus I believe cpu teams are affected by this bug as well. And I'm afraid it's not just those cpu teams once controlled by a human.

If this is true, it's clear why it makes life incredibly hard for the AI to play competitively.
I wondered if anyone of you has seen the same thing happen.
If that is the case, I think there's an urgent need for another patch.

I'm noticing similar things as well. The "percentage of running plays called/expected" often doesn't match up with what I might otherwise expect. Although I will note that if I change the percentages, then come back after a game or two, they do revert to different numbers.

However, what's interesting is rarely do the offensive and defensive numbers match up. For example, it's typical for an offense to be at "49" for 1st-and-10 run in normal situations, while the defense seems to like "58" for the same situation. I'm also not all that sure that these numbers actually vary much based on the makeup of the team; rarely do I see anything but the same standard percentages filled in.
