View Full Version : Why did they make it PS2 exclusive?

I would likely find myself checking this out if it wasn't PS2 exclusive, as I am determined to get Madden for the X-Box to see the reportedly better graphics. However, this might be interesting for those planning on getting the PS2 version of Madden this year:

I think EA favors PS2 and likes to give them little advantages over the other consoles, such as online capability in previous years, and now this little extra.

And how it's built from the ground up on each platform to make the fullest use of ALL the hardware, right?
...right?

Looking at the features for this thing...who would be gullible enough to buy it?

The retro versions of the game are what appeal to me. My Genesis doesn't work anymore, and sometimes I actually like playing the old versions to satisfy some wierd cravings to relive a small portion of my adolescence and college years.
Edited: Despite those cravings, I'm still only buying the X-Box version.

Are you implying PS2 owners are somehow more gullible than the rest of the console world? ;)

Emulators themselves are okay. It's the ROMs they play that are kinda sorta not exactly legal. Difference is, the game companies tend to go after distributors of the ROMs more than the users...which is one area, I guess, where they differ from the RIAA when it comes to piracy "prevention."

Why, oh why, does Tecmo not start releasing updated versions of Tecmo Bowl for the PS2, XBox, etc. I don't mean updated in the sense of having 3D graphics, etc. Just take the old game from 15 years ago, include all 30 teams with current rosters, and sell it for $30 bucks every September.
Who wouldn't buy this? They're sitting on a gold mine!

Not only that, but most companies really don't care about it. (I haven't really followed, but Nintendo was really the only company to make a stink about emulation). It more or less is the console makers that go after the distributors (and even then, they tell them to take the ROMs down first before jumping on them with lawsuits), instead of the game makers.

I wish that the Tecmo Super Bowl Ultra developer would give an update on the progress of the game... :(

Hell, I'd buy the original Tecmo Bowl if they ported it to the PS2, even with the old rosters.

Ahhhh... the days of Tecmo Super Bowl. How could such a simple game be so addicting? I played that more than any version of Madden to date.

I wish someone would make an option with Franchise mode. How awsome would that be? I know that the game "Sliders" is taking the world by storm, but what about an Online head to head franchise leage? Talk about good times..

I would buy it without current players. Everyone could be named "QB Bills" and I would still buy it. It pisses me off that they havent ever ported Tecmo Superbowl to Gameboy advance. Imagine online head to head TSB. I know its possible through an emulator to go head to head over the net, but im talking legal. The PSX version of TSB was pretty solid.

My brother and I were talking about this the other day. They ARE sitting on a goldmine, but I dunno if we'll ever see it released.

That Tecmo Super Bowl Ultra that I mentioned a lfew posts ago promised both of those things. As it stands, neither franchise mode or head-to-head are programmed in yet. And unfortunately the programmer hasn't said anything about his progress on the game since September. However, it's still a badass Tecmo ROM with rosters from quite a few different years....

Man, if Tecmo would even touch up the PSX version of the game and put in some sort of franchise Mode, they would have a liscence to print money. Even without real players.

I was really too much of a computer geek, I guess. My first console was a Sega Genesis, and then I got a Dreamcast right when it was discontinued, and I finally got an X-Box about 6 months after it came out. I played lots of football games on my Commodore 64 and Amiga, but when it came to consoles, it was really either Madden or the Sega "SportsTalk" football games for me back then. So, yeah, I missed out on Tecmo Super Bowl. At least I don't know what I was missing. :)

Not really... I don't buy alot of arcade sports games to begin with... but when I do Sega games are just fine for me. However, I think I was being too broad when I posted what I did... I meant EA Sports, not EA.

Tecmo LT was a FG blocking machine.
JeeberD
06-05-2004, 04:24 PM
While LT may have gotten all the glory, I found Ray Childress to be the superior sack machine in TSB. Just do a quick side-step around the center and he was free to go get the QB...

I hated Ray Childress in that game! He was a terror when my best friend used him. Of course, I loved using Reggie :)

It's a PS2 exclusive because the PlayStation 2 is like the L.A Lakers of video game systems. And in Tecmo Super Bowl I used the "Sack Master" Bruce Smith, he was just as good at sacking the QB as anyone else in that game.

Okay, allow me to remind you all that I never played Tecmo Super Bowl (and, no, I'm not sure that I'm quite human). If people played online the way people used to play TSB (a quick jump around the center or a bulldozer through the whole defense), those guys would be accused of using "cheese" tactics to win games. Why is it more acceptable to play that way in TSB? I'm not trying to rag on anybody who played TSB, because it sounds like everyone had fun, but it seriously pissed me off when people in ESPN Football, for example, would give the ball to Ricky Williams on every play, just because he's near impossible to tackle.
Discuss.

This game wasn't even supposed to come close to realism. That is why that tactic was acceptable. It was actually part of the game. It's hard to describe to someone who hasn't played it. It was in many ways a very simple but surprisingly addictive game :)

Dola - To illustrate my point, against my friend I routinely had 500 yard plus running games with Bo Jackson, but the game was usually high scoring and was very fun.

Most of the super cheese was in Tecmo Bowl. Tecmo Super Bowl was the one that kept stats.
