Anyone ordered from them before?

Some magazines, and a couple sites have gave them solid reviews, but I have read some customer reviews that sound horrid, and they are in rather large numbers 25+. They seem to have crap tech support from what I've read.

Any other suggestions for a place to order a custom PC as well? Preferrably a place where I don't have to order 50 bundled things of crap along with it.

I got a CyberPower computer about a year ago. They're great computers, i havent had a problem yet with mine. Highly reccommended.

I got a Cyberpower computer in April and it's worked out beautifully so far. I've read a lot of those reviews too, and it worried me, but I have to say I'm 100% satisfied. I havent used tech support so I can't comment on that, but it does seem that they don't have enough technicians for the volume of calls they get.

many, many places have poor tech support (or, at best, barely mediocre). it's just the nature of the business these days - profit margins on PCs these days are miniscule. Tech Support is one of the areas where costs are going to be cut.

FWIW, off the top of my head, I can't name one PC vendor known for stellar tech support.

Thats true, plus most tech support is out of the country now and it's hard to communicate anyway. If you have even an intermediate level of computer knowledge you won't even need tech support unless your really unlucky.

This is great. I didn't know this vendor existed. With Alienware being touted all of the time with their high prices, it's good to know there is a reasonbly priced alternative.

I bought my first custom-built PC from them a couple of years ago. No complaints even though sales/tech support was mediocre. Since then I have gone completely to build-your-own and I would recommend them if you want a complete system at a good price (and to get away from those awful assembly line manufacturers - Dell, HP/Compaq, Gateway/Emachines, etc.).

Alienware, btw, has no better tech support than anyone else.

Thanks for the replies guys, might bite the bullet and go with them, just don't wanna be stuck with a $2000 shitbox as some seemed to have been.

The one thing I noticed about there on site reviews (from customers) is they all seemed to be positive... as if they weeded out the bad ones. So that was a little weird.

Dell SucksI second that. Big manufacturers know that people only look at the size of the hard drive, the speed of the processor, the amount or RAM, and what type of optical drives the computer has. Meanwhile they stick you with a shitty mobo, graphics and sound cards (integrated half the time). Plus, if you open it up you void any warranties. Not to mention system restore disks.

What kind of tech support do you guys want? Would you pay more for US-based agents?

I can't speak for the tech support specifically, but one of the guys in customer reviews was saying that that he had a problem with his motherboard, and the CS employee told him 'it's not my problem' (several times) and 'if you don't like it, send it back then'

I don't need the most computer savvy tech support, but I atleast appreciate common courtesy...

And therein lies the rub.

I want a fast food place with better service than McDonalds, Wendy's, etc. But am I willing to pay $4 for a burger instead of $2 to get it? Probably not. Good service costs money to provide, and I don't think (and I could be wrong) that people are willing to pay that premium on "cheap" goods.

So, would I like better PC tech support? Sure. (And it can come from the moon for all I care, as long as it is good. I'd rather an Indian who knows what she is doing than a numbnutz who happens to be based stateside). Would I be willing to pay more for my PC for that tech support? Would I be willing to pay a monthly fee to have it available? Probably not.

Also--a company would have to market itself as having great customer service to justify its premium. Hard to do because every company in the world argues that it has great customer service. A start up would get lost in the noise because of its small ad budget.

And anyway, I thought you wanted to start a hotel/resturant business, Sundancer? ;)

Although I agree with you largely in principle, Chik-Fil-A kinda disproves this one as an absolute. There's a premium to be sure, but it's one that's worth every penny IMO.

You get good service at Chik-Fil-A? For me it's always been average, at best...

Hehe...You caught me. Nah, I am a hotel and restaurant major at school. But I actually have put the touches on my 20-some page business plan (and I add, its very impressive). Currently, I am going through it fixing up any miskates and doing adding or deleting anything that I can find useful or useless.

I found alot of weaknesses with the major companies. You gotta smart small with a good product and service, and grow from that.

And here's the other type of problem. If you claim to have good customer service as one of your big advertising points (i.e. you claim you're paying for better service), then people expect you to have waiters with tuxes and white gloves with gold plated urinals in your bathroom... well, you get what I mean, there's an expectation gap problem. There's no way you can improve your customer service incrementally enough to justify added cost.
