Michigan coach Alonzo Parrish wins coach of the year?? (C'mon...the guy's won it 6 out of the 8 years now and for the last 4 years in a row. Shouldn't this team be forced to win the national championship with the talent that they have in order for him to win this award? Terrible.)
Hirings
Defensive Coordinator - Harris Cooley (63) I think this is the first quality defensive coordinator we've been able to hire.
Scouts
Great Lakes Scout - Myron Steed (53)
Midwest Scout - Bennie Stone (55)
Southwest Scout - Grady Yazzie (46)

Rayburn - No sacks but 12 TFL's. Just a solid run-stopper.
McCrory - Had 59 tackles and 16 TFL's last year.
Reeves - Another great run-stopper. Lacks a little in coverage but was 2nd all-ACC last year.
Boyd - Solorio's a better talent but Boyd fits the WOLB mold better. Had 8 sacks last year.
Donovan - Holds record for most Ints in a season (6) last year. Also returned 2 punts for TD's.
Bernier - Great talent as a RS Freshman. Will makes the loss of Kadletz a lot easier.
Blackburn - Our leader on defense. Only 1st Team all-ACC last year. Led team in tackles (84).

Week 1
Southern Mississippi (0-0) at #26 Duke (0-0) (-17) TV3
First meeting
Key Injuries - None
Preview - We didn't want to schedule this game...but after every big gun turned us down the computer generated this week 1 match-up for us. The Eagles don't have a wealth of talent on their squad...but they're not the worst team on the planet. They're led by their QB Derek Broome...a 3rd year starter. Last season he threw for 2085 yards with 20 TD's and 10 Ints. Plus he's not afraid to tuck the ball under and run. On the other side of the ball we really have big expectations this year. We only lost 3 starters and we return 13 all-ACC performers. Injuries aside...we fully expect to be back in the playoffs this season.

Well I guess this means that we're pretty good. We just had a dominant game today in which we set school records for most points scored (69) and fewest yards allowed (58). Plus the 2nd string players played so much in this game that Duane Dock...the back-up RB earned MVP honors with his 19 carries for 66 yards and 4 receptions with 2 TD's. On defense we also sacked Broome 9 times and intercepted 3 passes and took two back for TD's.

Key Injuries
FB Earl Hines - Torn Knee Ligament - Out seaon
Preview - Our only fear this season is injuries and we've had our first of the year. Although not a huge contributor...losing Earl Hines forces us to take the red-shirt off of Randall Fruth. So we don't lose much with Fruth in there...but what we were hoping to do was red-shirt him in his senior year so we wouldn't have to start a true freshman next year. Well those plans are out the window. But we'll survive. Last year we beat up on the Cowboys and this year we expect some of the same. The Cowboys have to go with first year starter Courtney Thompson as QB and their best player is OLB Neil Copeland who is ranked 65/100 by our scout.

Not the most dominant game offensively for us...but our defense did all the damage as this game was over at the half. Last week we held Southern Miss to 58 yards of total offense...this week it was 122 yards. Jermaine Baxter...trying to avenge last year's season ending injury picked up where he left off with 3.5 sacks and 5 tackles on the day. Duane Dock continue to impress at RB. Ward is the current starter but Dock is the future star of this team. He will be enjoyed for the next 4 years.

Preview - Last season the Wildcats were in this game early in the 3rd as they scored a TD to take a 10-7 lead. But then we scored the final 28 points to put the game away. But even though we have more talent now than the Cats...they still are a scrappy team...especially at home. In fact the last time these two teams played up in Evanston...the Cats won 38-35. This season the Cats come into this game at 1-0 with a week 1 victory over Wyoming 19-17. The only skilled position starter from the last team to beat us is Sr RB Jamal Minter. Despite being a four year starter in an I-Form offense he only has 1862 career yards however. Back-up S Clyde Kennedy was lost for the season in last week's game...which forces us to take another red-shirt off one of our players. This time it's talented freshman Alex Austin who steps right into the back-up role.

Ken Pritchett played a great game in the rain today as he passed was 16-29...for 242 yards and 4 TD passes and no Ints. Matt Avalos caught 6 of those passes for 83 yards and a TD. Skip Driver caught only 3 passes but 2 were for TD's. On the ground...both Ward and Dock were excellent today..both gaining over 100 yards each. Northwestern did a good job moving the ball in the game but just couldn't sustain enough drives to keep up. Now we'll enjoy two weeks off until we start the ACC portion of the schedule.

Preview - Last season Maryland actually had a 14-13 lead at the half before we scored 26 unanswered points in the 2nd half to win the game 39-14. This season the Terapins come into this contest at 2-2..and they're 0-1 in the conference with their loss coming at the hands of Virginia 37-7. The Power-I offense is led by RB Glen Gerbasi...a scat back who takes over the starters role after Billy Webb went down with a rib injury in the last game. So far this year Gerbasi has 229 yards rushing and two 2 TD's. We rolled through the non-conference portion of the schedule with an average score of 51-7. Ken Pritchett is the 4th best passer in the nation with a rating of186.0. He's also thrown for 11 TD's and only 1 Int.

How many weekends in a row is it going to rain on Saturday? We had our 4th straight rainy game...this time we played during a wind-driven storm...but luckily we were able to take care of business and win our 4th game of the year. Jermaine Baxter...a great talent at DE but is injury prone...had to leave the game in the first quarter cause of fatigue due to Mono. So his back-up Chuck Lewis calmly stepped in a recorded 3.5 sacks and claimed MVP honors. We sacked Tyrell Sanchez 6 times all together. Again Maryland made a game out of this one as they scored on a Scott Booker 4 yd TD run at the 10:18 mark of the 3rd quarter to make it 10-7...but again we scored the final 20 points to win 30-7. Ken Pritchett threw 3 more TD's and Matt Avalos had a great game with 7 catches for 112 yards and 1 TD. Baxter is listed as doubtful for next week's game against Virginia.

As happy as we were about signing Walker...we were also disappointed to lose FB David Wiggins. He was a highly touted FB that had the high athletic prep that we were looking for since we'll have to start a freshman at FB next season.

Preview - Last season we really got lucky winning a sloppy game against the Cavs as we turned the ball over 6 times yet somehow managed to win by 3. The game winning TD came on a Kadletz blocked punt where Roy Robbins scooped up the loose ball and ran it back 42 yards for a TD. That score came early in the 4th and then we held on for the final 12:03 to win the game. This year Virginia is back and ranked #14 after the first four games. They are led by 2nd year starting QB Shawn Kitchings. Kitchings has thrown for 722 yards and 7 TD's with only 1 Int. Both defenses are ranked in the top 10 nationally in numerous categories so today's game could mirror last year's low scoring affair.

Ok...we've had enough of the rainy games. For the 2nd week in a row we had to play in a storm and for the 5th week overall we had to play in the rain. But our defense stepped up once again and blanked the Cavs in the 2nd half and we scored on a TD pass from Pritchett to Dock with 9:17 left and then we held on to win the game. We actually dominated Virginia all day on defense but it was Ken Pritchett who kinda reverted back to his old ways and threw three picks...2 of which went back for Virginia TD's. But he did step up and throw for 291 yards and 3 TD's to lead us to the win. Skip Driver earned MVP honors this week by catching 8 passes for 128 yards and 1 TD. Next week we pray for dry weather for once.

Preview - We're counting our blessings after seeing that Avalos and Fruth have recovered from their concussions...but Baxter's mono didn't improve at all from last week so he'll have to remain out of the starting lineup for the 2nd week in a row. Not that we're complaining however since back-up Chuck Lewis leads the team in sacks with 7.5 and that's with only 1 start. This has been our best defensive unit as we have not allowed the opposition to score more than one offensive TD in any game this year. Right now we're 3rd against the run...1st against the pass and 4th in points given up at 9.0
per game.

I guess Clemson was kinda pissed for me not mentioning anything about them in my game preview because they came out and picked apart our defense. I'm really not sure how we won this game...maybe it was the 14 penalties that were called against the Cavs...cause they certainly didn't turn the ball over much. And seriously...what's up with the rain? Six games...six times we are forced to play in the rain. C'mon...this is flat out ridiculous. On a positive note...what about this Lewis kid? 2.5 more sacks and another game MVP. Looks like we have another star in the making.

Preview - There was a time when Wake Forest was a feared team. There was also a time when Wake Forest beat us 79-0. Well those days are long gone and the talent that was once at Wake is now somewhat depleted. And of course...we're just fine with that. Wake enters this game 2-5 on the season and the 2011 version of this team has mirrored the version that has been Wake Forest for the last 5-6 years. Great passing stats...but bad rushing and bad defense. QB Andre Richmond has thrown for a lot of yards so far (1980) and a lot of TD's (18) but also a lot of Ints (15). In fact he's thrown 40 Ints in the last 18 games going back to last year when we intercepted him 5 times. Our season keeps on rolling on. It looks like Matt Avalos isn't going to see the field today. Today's game looks to be a good time to rest him and his sprained knee. And Jermaine Baxter has made little progress as he's missed the last three games...but Chuck Lewis has done an amazing job this year as he leads the team in sacks with 10.

For the 2nd year in a row Emmitt Ward took home game MVP honors as he rushed for 101 yards and 3 TD's in Duke's 31-3 win. We...ONCE AGAIN...had to play in a storm. 7 games...3 storms...4 rain. When's the madness going to stop?!?! Seriously guys. :D Ok...well maybe I should embrace the rain at this point cause we're 7-0 in it. But we don't have the offense to muck it around in the rain...so please...stop it! Ok...on to positives. Ken Pritchett continues to have a great season...currently he is the 7th highest rated QB in the nation. And Chuck Lewis added 1.5 sacks to his total...he has 11.5 on the season.

Preview - I'm not sure how we've done it the last three years...but we've had the Noles number. Last season's game was a classic. In front of a sold out Doak Campbell stadium and on national TV...we won the game in double overtime to win the ACC championship in the last regular season of the year. This season both teams come in with highly touted defenses. FSU allowed 24 points to Georgia in the opening game of the season but since then...they have allowed 12 points in the last 5 games. That's given them the title of best scoring defense in the nation at 6.0 points per game. We're not chopped liver on this side of the ball either as we're ranked 5th in the nation in scoring defense allowing 9.8 points per game. Matt Avalos is questionable but will get the start in this important game. Jermaine Baxter will be a scratch once again. And we lost Russell Boyd for the season in the last game. Solorio will get the nod at WOLB.

Ahhh...the TCY 4th quarter sim engine can bring some wacky endings to some big games. With :43 left in the game and the Blue Devils starting out on their own 22 yard line Ken Pritchett hit Kurt Dawson with 49 yard bomb that he brought in with no TO's left...then with just :25 left he finds Oscar Taylor in the end zone for a 29 yard TD pass with :14 left to win the game. This game was dominated by the defenses until midway through the 3rd period when we put together an 11-play 6:18 drive that didn't end up in a score but it really wore down the Noles defense and we really started to rack up yards after that...but they still would not allow us in the end zone. Then in a turn of events...they broke out a 6-play...91 yard TD drive that put them up 7-3 with 5:44 left in the 4th. But somehow Pritchett pulled some throws out of his rear end to preserve the perfect season and to claim our 4th straight win over the Noles. And it didn't rain!! Woohoo!! :D

Preview - We're starting to rack up a nice little Injured List here...but it's nothing that's too serious yet. If we can get by the next 3 games then we "should" have Baxter back for the playoffs. Last week was a big win and hopefully with this week's game being played at home will help us out against a decent NC State team. They've had a so-so ACC season so far at 2-3 but they did shutout the Terps in their last game 30-0. Solorio and Lewis sustained minor injuries in the last game but should be able to go. Dawson is doubtful at 3rd WR however and will probably not see the field.

It was nice to play in some sunny weather against a team that wasn't rated as the top defense in the nation and put 51 points up on the board. Emmitt Ward had a solid day on the ground with 107 yards and 2 TD's. Ken Pritchett had a turnover free day and threw 3 TD's. One of those was caught by Matt Avalos who seems to be healthy once again. He caught 5 balls for 97 yards along with his 1 TD. Skip Driver took his 2nd punt return back for a TD. He leads the team with 9 total TD's this year.

Preview - Georgia Tech was the last of our demons exercised last season as they were the last ACC team that we hadn't beat. Well we definitely made a statement with a dominant 37-6 win on our way to the post-season. The defense held them to 166 total yards meanwhile we racked up 369. This season the Yellowjackets are led by one of their few starters from last season WR Allen Prior. Prior had 1084 yard receiving last year and this year he's up to 717 to go along with his 48 catches. He also has 23 career TD catches. We continue to truck along despite some key injuries. We hope Kurt Dawson and Jermaine Baxter can recover at some point this season. And it looks like we'll have Avalos...Solorio and Lewis all healthy after this week's game.

Georgia Tech definitely put up some good numbers today...but just couldn't keep up with the numbers we were putting up. They were only outgained by 159 yards but they were outscored by 31. After a quiet middle of the season...Emmitt Ward is starting to pick up as he picked up another MVP award in leading the team to victory. He just topped the century mark with 109 yards and added 2 TD's. Skip Driver and Matt Avalos combined for 185 yards and 3 TD's and Matt Pritchett threw for 304 yards. We now have to avenge last year's surprise loss to rival Carolina to preserve our perfect season and our third ACC title in a row.

Preview - Last season RB Darren McCarthy almost spoiled our chances of taking home a 2nd ACC title as they beat us 31-24. McCarthy did it on the ground with 113 yards and 3 TD's and in the air with 65 receiving yards and another TD. Luckily for us...he's not here this season...so now we just need to focus on shutting their surprisingly potent offense. Not that they're normally potent...but you could have fooled us last year. Really no one on the Heels roster puts the fear of god in us...but last year...with a similiar roster...they tore us up. Plus they've won they're on a two game winning streak. On the injury front...we're gonna put Baxter back in the starting lineup and Dawson will benefit greatly from the three weeks off between this game and the first round of the playoffs. We hold the tie-breaker with the Noles...so with our win last week we clinched our 3rd ACC crown in a row.

Oh sure we won going away in this one...but they were up 10-3 at one point deep into the 3rd quarter. What is it with North Carolina? Does a team being one's rival have that much of a factor in the game? This actually could have been a lot worse...but Carolina forced us to kick 5 FG's. But once again it was the steady play of Emmitt Ward...picking up another MVP award down the stretch. Today he had 160 yards of total offense and a TD. Matt Avalos again led us in receiving yards with 108 and Pritchett threw 3 more TD's to give him 29 on the year. That's tied for the most in the nation. And Jermaine Baxter came up with 2 more sacks in today's game but had to leave with an injury. Now we have 3 weeks to recoup some of our injuries before the playoffs.

Preview - The Vols definitely come into this game with some impressive numbers. Lenny Terry leads the nation in TD throws with 34. And he's thrown for 3716 yards. Actually Tennesse is the top passing team in the country and their primary offense is the I-Form. Then in the rushing dept...RB Derrick Hoover has rushed for 1700 yards on the season with 13 TD's He has 5266 rushing yards in his career. Defensively their numbers are solid...but nothing that sticks out at you. And even though they are a 3 pt favorite...looking down their schedule...the best win of their year was against Georgia who finished #34 in the nation. The other teams they played that were ranked higher (Florida and Alabama)...they lost to them. So that gives us a little hope. Defensively for us...we finished 3rd against the run and 10th against the pass in the regular season. All three players that are listed questionable or probable will be in the starting lineup this week.
In other news...RB Duane Dock was caught committing a serious violation of team rules and will be suspended for the rest of the playoffs. This is a somewhat big blow.

Another good playoff win for us as we were tested by the Vols...but coming down the stretch in the 4th the Duke D stepped up and shut them down. Tennesse struck first with a Derrick Hoover 4 yd TD and then we went on a 21-0 run the took us midway into the 3rd quarter. Emmitt Ward scored two TD's...on from 18 yards out and one from 6 yards out and then Ken Pritchett hit Skip Driver for a 13 yd TD pass. Then Prichett had flashbacks of last season and his Int prone ways. Tennesse picked off two passes deep in our territory that led to 2 more Hoover TD's to tie up the game with 12:50 left. Then our D shut the door and we added a Kenny Everett FG and a Antoine Herndon TD run. Herndon had a nice day in place of the suspended Duane Dock. We were really happy with the way we shut down Derrick Hoover...despite him scoring 3 TD's...we held him to just 50 yards on 32 carries...a 1.5 average. And Skip Driver continued his surprise huge season by picking up game MVP. He had 9 catches for 141 yards...1 TD and his 79 yard kick off return to start the 2nd half really got us going.

Preview - Stanford comes into this game ranked #2 in the nation and like us...12-0. They're the 2nd team in two weeks that has the I-Form as their primary offensive formation. So as expected...their main cog is RB Sedrick Heflin. Heflin has 1500 rushing yards this year and 14 TD's. The one break we may have is that the Cardinal starting QB Cedric Resnick went down in game 6 this year with a torn tricep muscle...so it's been Ricky Pritchett's team for the final 6 games and although he doesn't have as much talent as Resnick...he's guided them to a 6-0 record as a starter. In six games he's thrown 22 TD passes and only 6 Ints. The strength of the Cardinal is their offense as they are the top scoring team in the nation at 46.4 points per game. Defensively they are a little bit better than Tennessee. On our side of the ball we had a great game from Ward last week and he will have to show up big time today as well. Pritchett will have to watch his Ints this week as the two he threw last week let the Vols back in the game and actually made it a contest. We made it through last week with no addtional injuries and our walking wounded actually healed a bit during the week.

Well he didn't score but Sedrick Heflin was the difference in this game for the Cardinal as they advanced to the national final four. He touched the ball 38 times tonight for 169 yards and converted many 3rd downs and a few 4th downs. We started out like gang-busters scoring the first two times we touched the ball as it was 10-0 with 8:35 left in the 1st quarter. Then on D Jermaine Baxter was back to his old self as he got to the QB twice for sacks. But then the Stanford D tightened up some screws and the offense woke up and took the lead with 8:37 left on a Tryone Bottoms TD catch. Then in almost miracle fashion...Ken Pritchett almost led another great comeback. We forced Stanford to punt with 2:12 left in the game and they pinned us deep on our own 9 yard line. Then Ken Pritchett hit on some big pass plays including two 4th down conversions and took us on a 9 play drive. Finally he got us down to the 2 yard line with :09 left but got sacked as time expired and our season came to a close.
