I had a chance to play some galactic civilizations and it got me thinking about which of the space games I enjoyed the most. I did enjoy galactic cilivizations, but I didnt really enjoy not being able to customize my ships. I enjoyed playing space empires 4, but it seemed to have way to much micromanagement to really enjoy it. I think that leaves moo2 as my favorite space game. I enjoyed the customization, but it was never too deep.

Which 4x space game is your favorite?

MOO2, without a doubt.

SE was just too complex for me. I tried to like the game, but it was just too much to learn. Galactic Civ, while good, leaves me flat. I don't like the way the galaxy is presented in Galactic Civ - it feels too 2D in a 3D space.

Stars! was great for multiplayer games.

GalCiv is the only one I've ever tried, so I guess it wins by default. :)

I can't say I was overly impressed with it though..it was fun, but not for very long.

I should really try Space Empires or MOO one of these days.

The more I look though, the more I'm tempted to try Starships Unlimited instead..

GalCiv was good, but I hated not being able to customize anything, and having to face the same opponents every game.

SE4 was good (I liked the micromanagement), but I don't like the "star lanes" idea. The opponent AI felt lacking.

I grew to like MOO3, but the star lanes thing got in the way. I started a thread awhile ago about Space 4x, and in it someone (I think Mr. Wednesday) made a great post about MOO3.

I guess my favorite would be Stars!, but I've been unsatisfied when it comes to Space4x games. THey always seem to do one or two or several things great, and then do some things that I just don't like. Not customizing ships I hate. Having to use star lanes I hate. Maybe if they were done right, I wouldn't mind...but they haven't yet.

MOO2 was great. GalCiv is the best since. Neither blew blew me away with features.
