I know NCAA 2005, Madden, and ESPN Football are due out soon... but my Xbox is accumulating quite a bit of dust. Heck, if it wasn't for my daughter's Dora dvd's, that lonely black box would have packed up and left from lack of use.
It's a GREAT time to be a text sim player!
I've been so caught up in quite a few text games and today was a great day to try out two new ones.
Anyhow, I'm wondering how I'm going to come up with the money to get the latter two I've delved into today, but that's my problem.
Newbies and lurkers, here are some must buys - purely my opinion:
FOF:The College Years: A college football game dream come true. A little too deep for me, but with TCY Helper, the game has been a pure blast to play.
FOF2k4: From the same maker of FOF:TCY, comes the Pro equivalent. The best incarnation of the series, imho. If you like pro football, this game will give you hours of solid play.
Out of the Park Baseball v6: Now that patch 6.03 is out, version 6 has been what I had expected from Markus and company. More of a "middle" ground when setting it up to mimic real life MLB, but when you do, the game is very realistic and fun to play. I only play with a realistic setup, teams, and rosters, but in my opinion it's as close to the real thing as you can get in a career baseball sim. Probably one of, if not THE biggest modding friendly games out there.
Puresim 2004: Just downloaded and started the trial today. EXTREMELY easy to navigate and customize, in fact this might be the easiest game to "jump" right into than any other text sim out there. A HUGE upgrade from last years release. Great work Shaun, and Joe did one heck of a job on the graphics. Immersion is easy with this game thus far.
NHL Eastside Hockey Manager: Another game I just started the trial on and is seeing more time from me from the rest due to the starvation in the text sim world that is hockey. I love the "professional" look of the game, but BEWARE, if you're not a CM junkie, the interface and game progression is steeper than normal - again just my opinion. Not that it's a bad thing, I've only scratched the surface of this sim and I can tell the depth is vast. Player interaction is taken to a whole new level with EHM.
Fast Break College Basketball: A simple, yet "to the point" interface with accurate results. Brings on the true meaning of, "You can't judge a book (or game), by its cover". Most people here at FOFC have found this game to be the front runner for FOFC sports text sim game of the year. I can't stand Pro ball, but I love college basketball and this game has won me over in many ways I never thought possible.
I'm sure there are other games I've failed to mention, but these six games have me up early in the morning and burning midnight oil late into the night. That's with a wife, two kids, and a job. Oh, there's not enough time....
