I am going to start a new game with the Flyers(played 2.5 seasons with them before) and share my thoughts with you all.

First thing we do is look at our roster

we have 4 under contract
sean burke-current starter 36 years old last year in contract(will be looking to deal him for a young backup as i don't plan on resigning him)

robert esche-25 years old and is about as good as burke plan to keep him here a while

neil little-31 years old not very good will only see time with the flyers due to injury while trying to aquire a better option

antero niittymaki-23 years old looks to need a little time but may very well be our #1 guy in a season or 2

defensemen we have 12 of them(13 if you count kappanen rw/rd but he will be playing forward)

desjardins-34 years old but our best natural right defenseman

kim johnsson- 27 years old our 2nd best natural left will be with desjardins on the first line pairing

danil markov 27 years old(3rd best) will pair with mathis timmander(29 years old) on the 2nd line

marcus ragnarsson(32 years old) will pair with vladimir malakhov(35 years old)
for the 3rd line (neither are anything that special)

dennis seidenberg(22 years old) will fill in as needed (and maybe oust someone from the third line)

bruno st jacques(23 years old) starting the season with the gulls but has a better work ethic and physical skills than half my defenders with the flyers

joni pitkanen(19 years old) is with the flyers but i don't see why and send him to the gulls

nobody else is even worth mentioning don't plan to renew any of their contracts unless they somehow get a talent infusion

Forwards:

1st line
leclair (34 years old) roenick (33 years old) amonte(33 years old)

2nd line:
gagne(23 years old) zhamnov(32 years old) recchi (35 years old)

3rd line:
brasher(31 years old)+fighter, kieth primeau(31 years old) sami kapanen(30 years old)

4th line
fedurok 24 years old physical but limited talent
hanzus 26 years old will only forced to 4th line due to depth right now
radivojic-22 years old hopefully will be able to replace amonte or recchi one day

somik 26 year old winger wll only play due to injuries

patrick sharp 21 years old is currently with the gulls but will get called up if a injury happens at center

nobody else looks to be much of anything and hopefully will never see any ice time

we have some unsigned prospects

last year we had 2 first round picks jeff carter and mike richards both 18 both centers (will be looking to step in as roenick and zhamouv are no spring chickens)

tomi kallio is 26 and has the best reputation of them all the left winger could step in for us right now we make a 3 year deal (although he won't join us till after the season)

roman malik 25 year old check goalie is able to compete for a starting job, we make an offer (he won't join us till after the season though)

the unsigned defensmen look bad at this point not even a physical presence in the group(big concern with the age of some of my current group will need to get some in the draft)

i decieded to switch zhamnov and primeau

i have a very large concern with the age of my current players my first 3 lines of forwards only have gagne under 30. I don't think fedurok is more than a 4th line guy. My unsigned players seem to have 3 guys who can step in and radivojic and sharp may contribute. If any of them don't pan out, i am in big trouble. I don't think leclair, recchi, roenick, amonte, and zhamnov are going to be getting another contract from me. which makes me want to look at who is going to be a free agent after the season and try to take care of that.

i am not sure where to find this in the game yet but i know from prior experience we are either at or above our salary max. In my prior games with this current group we were unable to offer the big name free agents any worthy contract.

I will be looking to get younger but only for players who can step in and play i have no problems playing sharp and somik this year if need be

i also have claude lapoint on the roster but he is suspended for 5 months for drug voilation...he will replace fedurok on the fourth line if our team doesn't change

tactics will be dump and chase, crash the net with lots of hard hitting

i like big physical players(maybe too much) and will be drafting with this in mind

amonte and zhamnov are in the same boat as burke want huge contracts that they are not worth and in the last year of their current deal. I really like the current depth i have but don't want to lose these guys for nothing, i think i will be ok with the 2 international guys coming over after the season and sharp will be able to step in (although i may get forced into moves due to injury)

wavier draft there were a couple goalies i was hoping to get but they didn't last long enough, i did get 24 year old physical defensemen rick berry but exposed vladimir malakhov same type of player just berry is 11 years younger and should fit in fine in his spot

i was really hoping to add and center and right winger as well but didn't see the right guys there

argh lost my write up for the playoffs

we lose to ottawa in the first round 4 games to 1 injuries we not our friend no desjardins, burke went down, and berry went down brasher also missed the first few games.

I am very dissapointed in losing in the first round there are going to be alot of overpriced underachievers avaiable come the wavier draft.

the offseason we get rid of salary and age

we add dan boyle and brad richards from tampabay

they get leclair roenick amonte and desjardins

good luck boys that is over 25 million in salary for 2 34 year olds and 2 35 years olds(even though they were my top line and top defensemen)

the new look flyers

malek and esche will rotate goalie duties

def lines
boyle johnnson
markov sauer
sidenburg styf

berry and timander give depth (not really set on a top 6 yet)

left wingers
kallio-signed draft pick will get a look on top line awsome skills
gagne-will battle for top spot
brasher-same old same old
fedoruk-sigh

centers
brad richards-big trade hoping for big things
keith primeau-solid player all around
michal hanzus-moves up from 4th line solid player
mike richards-1st round pick from 2 years ago

right wingers
kapanen-sparkplug good all around player
radivojevi-looks better than last season although not sure how i like him here
milan kopecky-signed looks much better than when i signed him
will be playing c-jeff carter as 4th line right winger 1st round pick from 2 years ago

i don't feel the team is good enough but alot of young guys are out there now and i feel the team can get better as the year goes on a would feel better with a goal scorer on the left wing instead of brasher, fedurok is a younger physical presence but my left wingers just aren't there yet

blair betts(24 year old completely average center) and patrick sharp will provide depth if need be

condors

make a trade sending sami kapenan + some non noteworthy prospects in exchange for our new 1st line right winger nikoli zherdov 20 year old sniper scored 11 goals in 30 games for columbus, i also trade a 4th round pick for antti miettinen (20 checking 15 workrate perfect guy for my 4th line)

antero nittimaki played in 25 games but put up the best stats his stamina is not good though

roman malek played 2nd best in 23 games

robert esche played in 45 games i wanted him to steal #1 job but didn't play well enough to earn it

zherdev payed dividends scoring 45 goals for us along with 43 assists and was a +28 very nice for the 20 year old(he was the #4 overall pick in 2003)

brad richards netted 35 goals and collected 58 assists to lead the team with 93 points and was +32

tomi kallio had 35 goals and 45 assists was a +22 to round out the first line

simon gagne lead the 2nd line with 34 goals and 40 assits +25 overall

kieth primeau centered line 2 with 29 goals and 35 assists and a team leading +35

branko radivojevic chipped in 23 goals and 36 assists was a +12

antti miettian gave us 14 goals and 11 assists

mikel handzus had 17 goals and 18 assists

milan kopecky had 11 goals and 9 assists

todd fedoruk lead the 4th line with 14 goals and 18 assits

mike richards had 14 goals and 10 asists

jeff carter (only had 46 games due to injury) had 3 goals and 11 assists(very disapointed here as he looks better than mike richards on paper)

pattrick sharp tossed in 3 goals and 10 assists in fill in duty

ben eager added 0 goals and 2 assists in 9 games filling in as well

donald brasher had 3 assists in 7 games while making room for younger players

we ended up 39 wins 33 loses 7 ties and 3 overtime loses not very proud of it but we made the playoffs and got rid of a ton of salary. This season we should be able to add a free agent if the right one is there to get.

1st round oppenent = new jersey devils

antero nittimaki got the start for game one

we end up getting shelled 8-3 looks like calli

malek gets the nod in game 2 nittimaki is at 70% and esche is injured

simon gagne is at 81% so he gets a game off

kopecky also needs a rest along with kim johnnson hopefully they won't be missed

game 2 we lose 5-2 this is going to be tough to come back from

we don't lose anyone in the wavier draft and for the first time don't pick anyone up(pick up a defenseman the prior 2 years)

our first line kallio richards and zherdev was great last year and zherdev should be even better as he is 21 now

our 2nd line gagne, primeau and carter i am excited about add anson carter to the mix

our 3rd line miettian(dissapointing last year) handzus and radivojevic(moved down from 2nd line last year) hopefully will be good enough(i feel these guys are going to determine how we do this year

our fourth line cater, richards sharp (all young guys who are getting better)
add fedurok and a 3rd round draft pick i don't want to expose to waviers (i would claim him if i saw him there) looks like i have a bit better depth then i did in the past

our defense looks above average with 8 guys i can play without worry but we lack a true star back there hopefully the depth is enough

goalies it will be esche and nittimaki(has talent to be best in the league has some 20's for his saving abilities but only 8 stamina and is rarely ready to play 2 games in a row) malek seems to have regressed a little and will be playing for the gulls at the start of the season

If we get good shifts from our 3rd line we can win the cup, we have a couple 2nd round pick defensiveman from the first 2 drafts if one of them or siedenburg(who alot of teams want and is getting better every year) step up and produce (espcially on the power play).

Of course injuries and shaky goaltending could also see us out of the playoffs

i predict the playoffs and a win in the first round (not sure after that)

kallio had a down year (or last year was a fluke)

Primeau only had 10 goals but had 31 assists hopefully he finds the scoring touch in the playoffs

Ruzicka was a 3rd round pick in 2003 was surprised to see him get 23 goals and 18 assists seemed to score alot more than his stats would show has good stamina and off the puck skills maybe that is were it comes from(played on the 4th line unless there were injuries to move him up)

primeau being a -7 bothers me too but we gave up too many pp goals

we have home ice for the playoffs it better mean something this season

nothing exciting outside of gagne on the 2nd line tearing it up, it seems kallio is out his spot while not a bad player at all 2 years of 2nd line stats gets him on the 2nd line

primeau better find the scoring touch and handzus both should be looking over there shoulder at the kids who are looking capable of taking there ice time. Our best player on the gulls is a 2nd round pick that is also looking worthy of a call up sometime soon

we have tampa bay in the first round

we will be seeing leclair, JR, amonte our top line 4 years ago none of them scored more than 18 goals this year it and are making 28 million dollars that is one expensive 3rd line!

we lose game 1 7-3 for some stupid reason i play esche (i like him in real life)
he rides the pine the rest of the series

game 2 we lose 3-2 in overtime

game 3 we win 3-2 in overtime

game 4 we breakout with a 7-1 win

game 5 we lose 4-3 in overtime

game 6 we win 4-1

its game 7 3rd period ends at 2-2 , game 7 overtime with 19 minutes and 29 seconds into the overtime Richard Zednick ends our season

4 straight seasons of getting knocked out in the first round

i will be in therapy this off season

i look at my roster and it looks good enough

boyle, johnnson, markov, siedenburg could be top 4 defesemen for any team in the league i our next 6 guys(including some of the gulls top guys) are good enough as well

our team had the 2nd best offense in the league and the 3rd best save% simply while our defensemen look good on paper they are not we are 3rd worst in shots allowed and ranked 26th out of 30 on penalty kills (our power play ranked 2nd as well)

i really wish chris pronger had signed with us.

we call up 3rd round pick lucas seipda and will be getting a defensemen with our 1st round pick, also will try to put a package together to bring in a top notch defensemen

we also traded for Cam Barker was the highest rated defensemen in the 2004 draft i wanted him bad but montreal grabbed him early it cost us giving up timmander, anson carter, tomi callio, mikel hanzus and kieth primeau but he is 21 years old and is our best defenseman has played in the nhl 2 seasons and put up numbers that none of our defense can match.

Now i wonder what kind of offense we will have as we just traded our 2nd line for a star defensman

we get our normal snubs in the free agent market, and i am feeling kinda let down but then we hit the mother load! Joe Thorton signs a 4 year 29 million dollar deal with the Flyers !

this was totally unexpected and with richards being a favorite of the board i will play thorton on the 2nd line but this sure makes up for the offense we lost in improving our defense!

I am now excited about the coming season

we also sign a few young undrafted guys to add depth for the gulls altough one of them is staying up and jumping onto the 3rd line accourding to our scouts he is better than the guys we drafted! he has 15+ ratings in stamina strength checking is 6-5 and 230 lbs a real physical gem although i don't know how much he will score 16 slapshot but only a 12 wristshot his lowest rating is an 8 for faceoffs but he is a winger

the 2007-2008 Flyers

g-antero niittymaki is now 27 years old his stamina has limited him but he is now 27 years old he has step up(his stamina has risen to 12 now hopefully that is enough) he can make saves none of my other goalies can

g-robert esche 29 years old and looks solid is always ready to play but rarely delivers his career numbers 475 games gaa 3.17 s%.896 (not horrible but not top level either)

both these guys were here when i got here

we also have joe frazier and jacob cech but neither look able to due the job and unsigned draft pick brandon mckenzie but he doesn't look to be an answer

Defense: alot of transition here

cam barker 21 years old and is already a top flight defender traded alot to get him his average rating a 7.41 in 65 games for montreal last season better than any of our defenders he was the 7th pick in the 2004 draft and has a ton of talent, is our #1 left defender

dan boyle 31 years old we acquire him from tampa bay and has been our top defender since his arrival 7.27 rating last season will be our top right defender

kim johnnson 31 years old was our top left defenseman last season will move to the #2 spot average rating was 7.10 last year

daniel markov 31 years old has been our 2nd best defender plays behind boyle averaged 7.22 last season, we expect more of the same from him

dennis seidenburg 26 years old has more talent than he plays to averaged 6.98 last year and will our #3 left defender hoping for a better season from him

lukas speida 22 years old 3rd round pick in 2004 has played stellar for the gulls the last 2 seasons this year he is getting a shot as i don't want to expose him to waviers

ian white 23 years old was traded for 3 gulls defenders will be the 7th defender played at a 7.19 last season for toronto but doesn't look to be that good he could very well force speida or seidenburg out of the lineup

Forwards:
simon gagne-team captin 27 years old coming off 105 point season he is all that and a bag of chips for us was our best player last year and he is just getting into his prime

brad richards-27 years old-our boards favorite player had 86 points last year and is good for about 40 goals and assists every season looking for more of the same this year

nikolai zherdev 22 years old last season was his worst as he only scored 43 he is a sniper and will hopefully bonce back with another 50 goal season for us

alexander semin 23 years old we traded for him he from washington was the 13th pick in the 2002 draft he only scored 26 goals last year but we expect big things from him

stefan ruzicka 21 years old drafted in the 3rd round in 2003 has had 2 23 goal seasons playing on the lower lines is a technically gifted but not physically hopefully he scoring will improve with more ice time

ben eager-23 years old he is a work ethic guy looked like a borderline minor leager when i got here has improved every year and his size and checking makes him a perfect fit for the 3rd line could be here for the next decade(has developed a scoring touch 15 rating for wrist and slapshots)

brian sutherby 26 years old traded with washington to get him was their 1st round pick in 2000 looks to be gifted but had a bad seaon last year i hope he will rebound and give us 20+ goals and assits on the 3rd line

david steoguchi 20 years old 1st round pick in 2005 he loves me (at least he said when i signed him) already has a 20 passing and has way too much talent to not give him some ice time, he could go to the gulls if he looks overmatched

anntii miettinen 27 years old i gave him a shot a few seasons ago and his dissapointed he did well in a call up roll last season 15 workrate and 20 checking are things i like hopefully he will pick up where he left off last year

mike richards 23 year old one our #1 picks in 2003 hasn't gotten the job done yet hopefully he breaks out this season (3 seasons average rating 6.53)

jeff carter 22 years old the other #1 pick in 2003 was good last year after not so good the first two seasons and may switch with steoguchi (3 season average rating 6.87)

todd fedurok and patrick sharp will provide vetern depth (as they have since i got here)

if we lose in the first round of the playoffs 5 straight years i have no idea what to do, this group has exceeded expecations, heck the board asked me to improve the roster

we get carolina in the playoffs in the first round one

Ian White is out for 6 months with a damaged spine he did play well in 32 games this year

Carolina had nobody with more than 74 points a bunch of solid players but no stars and no backup goalie they have to live or die with Weeks

we beat them in 4 straight games it really wasn't even close in 3 of the games

I am hoping this will give us momentum going into the 2nd round

we have atlanta in the 2nd round

Zherdev gets suspened for 3 games wtf i need that guy, i appeal but he still isn't an option to play

the board stopped telling me how great brad richards is and told me cam barker and stefan ruzicka don't deserve to wear the team colors....ummm barker is our best defenseman and ruzicka is just fine as a 3rd line winger
i think Synder is losing it

Well Zherdev missed a couple games but he is back in the fold

we beat the thrashers in 5 games, can we go from underachievers to champions?

we have tampa bay in the 3rd round, i really want to beat the tar out of these guys...hopefully we win some games too! (leclair jr and amonte are no longer on the team)

just on note on my roster i have several key defenders on the wrong side of 30, i used to play ice hockey and when i was 29 i felt i was better than when i was 18 when i was 32 i was wishing i was 18 again so i have a built in bais. A couple of these guys (johnnson and boyle) are wanted by other teams. I may try to get one of my shortlisted guys that i wanted to draft but didn't get the chance to.

We beat tamapa bay 4 games to 1...i love this game

once again we end up with the best record in the league Nittymaki has gotten even better at 28 years old which is nice to see (has 2 20's and 3 19's now) although he plays very well usually he goes thru horrible streches his form is usually like 8-9-8-3-3

we again had the #1 offense but our defense fell to 17th and 27th in shots allowed there will be changes this offseason even if we win the cup. I will get at least 1 young stud defender no matter what the cost. Giving up power play goals in the playoffs has been a real killer. Our power play was ranked #1 and our penalty kill was 20th

chicago played a 4 lines with a defensive mentality and neutral zone trap
i look at the worst defensive team and they are playing a passive forcheck like me but then i look at the devils and they are also using it and have the 4th best defense in shots allowed. That being said i am going to go with a neutral zone trap and see how my team does next season maybe i will keep the personal (good young defenders are very hard to get in this game)

we lose to ottawa in 7 games

this dynasty is at least on hold for a while
(may be done) as i want to mess around with the tactics part of the game (play the same season several times using different tactics)

who knows maybe i will get back to this sooner than later

not sure if anyone is reading either
