Highschool text sim....

I was thinking of the possibilities the other day and I think having your players handed to you would be a challange...you know you cant recruit....Well I guess you could add that aspect in but make a penalty if you get caught and also could have summer camps and such to see how upcoming kids are looking and to get them started early and all...I was thinking mainly for basketball but it would work for anything....you could have the JV and take players off of there when needed...any more ideas? or do you guys think this would ever even be applicable?

It is entirely possible... But the appeal for some people would be seeing highschool they know and what not. I guess if you were serious you could ask Jim for the list he currently has which he used for TCY. But a highschool game I imagine wouldn't be much different then an NBA game only difference is no trades. One thing I would want in any game is this say there is a family thinking of moving into town and their kid is a stud cornerback you could have like a free agency type thing with his family to tell them to move to your school zone. But of course if you win you might have to deal with his father who is a control freak and demands a job on the team.

(Note: Before anyone asks, Tucker is one of only two schools I've been close to that I've yet to hear about any "shady" recruiting. Everything has been above-board there that I know of, including getting a good QB transferring in this year right after D.T. graduates. :))

I think there would be a little bit of a hole to fill with the lack of recruiting or FA signings. This could maybe be filled with a in school recruitment,like seeking out talent from the school that is not already playing football. I also think having a limeted time to evaluate talent with try-outs could be fun.

On a side note, I've been thinking a College Baseball text sim would be a blast.

Ummm...having been close to a number of high school programs, I can assure you that there are SO many ways that high schools recruit--both legally and illegally. Certainly a number of people would try out...and then if you needed more you could maybe have an option to encourage the basketball star to tryout or post flyers around the school...could talk to students parents about getting them in summer camps so the develop and all...

Yes I know but lets say in the sim you can get a certain guy to transfer to you school legally cause he is zoned for both...thats simple...or maybe he has an excuse because he needs to join a special program that only your school has but other than that you can make shady deals and have the chance of getting caught...I like this idea.Me too. Shaw High School's horticulture (yes, horticulture) magnet program assures them of "legally" getting the top football players in Columbus, GA every year, for example.

These were just a few of the thoughts...

Booster Club--Can they raise enough money to hire another assistant coach or two? Do we get them to raise the money for an on-campus stadium (or renovations to the existing one), or continue to play in the generic county-owned facility? Can we build a new weight room? (which would help increase players' abilities, of course...)
Teachers--Do they like football and give your boys a break in the classroom (thereby hurting their academic rating when they get imported into TCY http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif), or pile the homework on during the season, distracting your boys from the more important business on the gridiron. http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif
The Whims Of High School Kids--Distractions such as a new girlfriend, being recruited (or NOT being recruited--you know how fragile those egos can get...), trouble at home, and how to deal with your typical I'm-17-years-old-and-I-know-it-all-and-can't-be-coached jerks.

Recruiting--Of course, some of our players would be recruited by colleges, and I discussed that above. No, what I'm talking about here is recruiting guys to come live in your city (and play for your team). It always helps when a large local business is owned by a big-time supporter of your team, and he's willing to give a job to the father of that QB from the next town over if they'll move the family into your district, thereby making him immediately eligible to lead your school to glory.
Adolescence--Is that 14-year-old 6'2", 145 pound freshman gonna be able to beef up and become the tight end I've dreamed of, or is he just gonna become a 6'6" skinny kid who isn't even strong enough to play in the post on the basketball team.
JV and Freshman Teams--Micromanage these yourself by settings lineups, etc. or let your trusted assistant coaches handle these. Make decisions about who plays at what level: Do you need that Sophomore cornerback to play Varsity and give you depth in the secondary (which might risk his development since he doesn't play that much), or do you leave him down at JV where he can play every snap?

Alot of great Ideas...I love the aspects of a Highschool game because there are so many options and ways to get what you need plus alot of side things that can potentially mess up or make a season....just looks really intriging to me.

This could be with more than just the basketball coach. Some of the players on my high school football team wrestled in the winter rather than played basketball (and few did indoor track).

Having the feeder middle schools listed would be a great addition. High schools with designated feeders would be easier to build a program at because you could install your packages at the middle school/junior high level. Other school districts split up the middle schools to different high schools, so that's not possible.

Yes...plus then you can get the young programs going at those schools...also then the competition is between schools who share the same zones...
