If I understand correctly, the developer said that career mode can be added in the future, mostly likely from mod as the code will be open.

I got my start working on utilities for games out there by adding career mode to "Head Coach Football" on my old Amiga. All the player data was in text files, so I had a utility that would age the players, and another one to generate draft classes.

If the system is that open, adding a career mode wouldn't be that hard. Depending, of course, on how deep you wanted the financials, how accurate you want aging to be, etc.
